DD1 had an infection of the nail bed and was given bactroban to use. the initial swelling and puss has gone but her skin around the area seems to be peeling off. the skin under the peeled bit is quite red and new looking. i dont think it is hurting her becaus she is using it fine. she does say it hurts when i ask her but dunno about that. is this a normal part of the healing process or a reaction to the bactroban? gonna take her to chemist and see what he thinks this arvo and then GP if it doesnt look good. but just wanted to see if anyone has any info in the meantime.
bactroban isnt very strong and really only works and fighting infection.
i have never seen it cause skin peeling.
usually the skin peeling is because it is dead form being stretched and infected and the new skin layer underneath will look read as it hasnt been conditions to the air and sunlight yet.
if there is no further odour or puss from the site it should be ok.
if u are concerned take her to the chemist.
if the wound has cleared up and is only dry red skin try some vitamin e cream this will help moisturise the area.
I have been applying it to my DD#3 knee - it looked like an infection. YOu only need a very, very little bit in applying - its powerful stuff. It sounds to me like the infection has passed or been beaten....i would cease using it. But like others have said....see a GP if concerned. Its a good cream to have in your home though...but yeah, should be used sparingly....
