Polycystic ovaties but not PCOS?

I just got back from a scan and the scanning lady said "oh and you have polycystic ovaries, see" and then just kept talking?! She said that it's really common...

I do have long cycles, but my periods aren't heavy, and I am not overweight nor do I have any excess hair... Could I have PCOS?

It's really hard to google, because when I google 'Polycystic ovaries' all the results are for polycystic ovarian syndrome?

So confused! Any help or advise would be great. I do NOT need ANOTHER thing against me in this TTC

Unfortunately, you can't diagnose PCOS with just an ultrasound. It could go either way - the cysts on the ovaries is just one of a whole host of symptoms that you may or may not have, but underlying them all is a hormonal imbalance and insulin resistance.

I have PCOS - I have the cysts on my ovaries, but I have no hair issues, no skin issues, am not overweight... and yet my PCOS is actually VERY severe. You need to have blood tests to look at your hormone profile before PCOS can be confirmed or eliminated.

Also, many women with PCOS can conceive naturally, and some do with minimal assistance. It's not the end of the world, even if you do get the diagnosis of PCOS.

Hmm thanks for the info... If you DO conceive, does PCOS make it more likely that you will miscarry?

That is one part of PCOS, yes. But once again, it doesn't effect all women. There are other factors contributing to my miscarriages, it wasn't all PCOS. Some women find it harder to stay pregnant, while others never have miscarriage problems at all. The hard thing about PCOS is that you can't say for sure how it WILL effect someone - there's a range of possible symptoms and everyone seems to get a different set so no two women with PCOS are effected in the same way.

I also have poly cystic ovaries but don't have the syndrome. Fortunately i have been highly fertile so now worries there. I have had one blighted ovum incident that resulted in a miscarriage but otherwise i've been fine (not necessarily related to the PC ovaries)... I conceived 3 months after that and went on to have another healthy baby. ETA: my sister also has PC ovaries and no syndrome... we both have 3 naturally conceived children.
