I always offer more bfs after the vomitting has passed too, while her little tummy is still sensitive from its 'upheaval' that tends to help soothe it. FWIW my DD has had about three vomitting episodes in her whole life and frequent bfs always cured it before bedtime.
You have been given some great advice and it sounds like she is on the mend.
We had a gastro bug a mnth or so ago and it started just like you described the really awful nappies and then the vomiting, he the vomiting for about 24 hrs (the first 5 were the worst) and runny poos for about 2/3 days. When he started back on 'normal' food he didn't eat as much and I just let him have free access to boob (we were down to 2 feeds through the day).
He also slept alot more then normal for example he started to have 2 sleeps again and they were long sleeps where as normal is 1 afternoon nap. He definitely wasn't as active but I wouldn't class it as lethargy as such. If it had gone on for much longer I probably would have taken him to the dr just to check his hydration levels.
I'm the same as you Jen with all of mine I do the BB thing as much as possible. I personally wouldn't give such a small child paedalite if I could help it...
Well we're off to the dr today. She's pooing constantly and its green, watery and STINKS. Her poor little bum is red raw She's keeping my milk down but not her vegies last night, so nothing solid since Monday night. She's also developed a fever
Inanna and Jen Thank you so much. I've been bfing her as much as she wants and as I mentioned, she hasn't brought that back up. Inanna, I didn't worry about the pedalite or that other one eveyone keeps mentioning, I figure if she's still feeding theres not much point in buying something else.
I'm not really sure what it is either... is it just like Salvitol for kids?

Nina had gastro for 6 consecutive days last week. It was really awful. She had a temp on and off for most of that as well. We just had to keep her well hydrated (so small sips of water frequently). As Jaz is still b/f, keep offering it to her. Don't worry about food. When they have gastro, it'll only upset their tummy more.
Hmmmm, well decided against the drs. We've pretty much concluded its a gastro virus, SiL and one of her daughters started getting sick last night. We saw them on Monday. Jazz is doing better. Has kept her porridge down since breakfast, lots of BM, and is now sleeping peacefully.
A little concerned about her poo's but from what I can gather its fairly normal with gastro, I'll just keep getting BM and also some water into her and she'll mend.
I have some Inner Health for Kids, would that be ok for her during gastro?
You're doing great Leasha - I wouldn't be doing anything differently. It's great she is keeping the boobies down. Poor bottom - zinc on it maybe?
Paedalite/gastrolyte etc are electrolyte drinks. I personally (that's my personal opinion!) think that they are unnecessary if a baby is breastfeeding. Breastmilk is the best fluid for a sick bubba. If the child is vomiting and pooing enough that they are not keeping breastmilk down for an extended time 6 hours or so then they probably need to be on an IV and wouldn't keep the paedalyte down anyway... That's my experience. Also it doesn't taste like anything that Jazz would have probably tasted so she wouldn't want to drink it!
They are helpful though for older kids/adults who can tolerate sips. Having said all of that water is wonderful!
I hope she continues to improve over the day. Keep an eye on that temp (she will get lethargic with a high temp) & personally I would give her some panadol for comfort & to keep the temp down... The high temp can make their muscles sore and head ache - pretty awful...
Hope she's feeling better soon, hun. What a wonderful Mummy to take care of her poor sick bubba so well! I used pawpaw ointment on DD's bottom when it got really nasty, I even used it when trying to wipe as it tends to lubricate the area so it doesn't hurt. It sounds like the bug is making its exit out the other end now. Keep up with what you're doing and keep a close eye on her. I hope she's better soon.
She is doing really well now, kept everything down today, had a huge 3 hour sleep, we had a lovely cool relaxing bath to sooth her bum, and she's seeming a lot better. It seems to hurt her a bit but I think she's past the vomiting thank goodness!!!
Thank you everyone! This was my very first gastro bug as a mummy, hmm not fun!!! But just glad I am still breastfeeding because it was a struggle to get anything other then BM into her!
Thank you everyone, she is definitely better now...
Unfortunately, this mummy went down for the count last night... BLEH YUCK! Where's my breast milk rehydrator? LOL! I could have used it, it is a NASTY virus so hope my baby girl didn't feel like I felt last night...
LOL do you think it would defeat the purpose though? Expressing for myself, wouldn't it just dehydrate myself more by expressing it out? LOL, honestly if I had of thought it would be good, I'd have done it!
LOL, Leash - for an adult, the best thing is gastrolyte. And plenty of rest. And keep feedingv - your milk supply will suffer a bit while you're sick, but keep feeding so that when you recover, so will your supply.
