Question Sydney Allergy & Immunology Consultants

DS has an allergy testing booked in with the above named for 2 days before his birthday. I did a post a while ago about the actual procedure but was wondering if anyone has actually used these people and what your experience was like.

My previous Dr referred it and I got the letter in the mail today confirming our appointment. We have waited months for this.

So far he is suspected to be allergic to egg, nuts, penicillin and ceclor. Im dreading finding out what else will be added to the list, am a little bit nervous too.

Hi there Mis-tree I have used them and found them extremely helpful and good to find out what I am allergic too. I now avoid those foods and are so much better.

They did offer me allergy injections I didnt want them and decided to just stay away from the food and polliens instead. I hope all goes well with Stanky.

mis_tree: I just finished my 2nd round of allergy testing with SAIC. I saw Dr Gin in Liverpool (also saw him for my 1st round). This time round I thought I might have had a food allergy, actually I was convinced i did, but after a thorough round of testing and then a 3week hypoallergenic diet it showed I wasn't allergic to any foods but it was infact my previous allergies (all environmental - grasses, mould, pollen etc) had all elevated and now presenting themselves in a different manner.

The actual process is pretty much painless and there was a little girl (about 6yo) who was in there just before me and there was no crying or anything from her. They write numbers on the inside of each arm with a marker (the number corresponds to what they are going to test you with), the nurse then places a drop of each allergen (in liquid form) near each number and then with a little scrapper (not very sharp at all) she simply touches inside each drop of liquid to just break the skin and allow the liquid into your skin. After about 10 minutes they then identify which numbers have developed a reaction and they are graded on how much of a reaction you receive.

I've been offered two options for my allergies - immune suppression and desensitising. I am about to speak with my GP about the options before I decide but SAIC seem great and Dr Gin was very helpful and explained things when I asked questions etc.

Good luck.
