Default Too similar a name?

Howdy

I'm not sure this baby will be Baby Z after all.. the "z" name that I liked for a girl seems to be... unsuitable with DH's surname (although would probably go great with mine.. haha) so its back to the drawing board.

If you had a child already with an "A" name... and 3 syllables... would you hesitate in naming another child an "A" name with 3 syllables?! They don't particularly sound similar, but I think I'm just worried about having two "A's" in the family. Which is why I wanted a Z name I suppose, get it as far away from A as possible.. haha... plus I seem to have a thing with 3 syllable names - cos DD is 3 syllables too...

This is really only relevant to a girls name too (DS keeps telling me its a girl in my tummy, so at the moment I'm focusing on that cos boys names are too bloody hard.)

I don't think it's a problem. Amanda & Alison are both A names with three syllables & if I heard those two as syblings I'd never relate them like that IYKWIM.

i think it depends on if it has the same sounds with in it...
our 2 have "on" and "ene" but the rest is totally different
i think practice yelling DS's name and DD's and bumps name in quick sucsession and if it sounds to similar i wouldnt...

Mel I think having another A name is perfectly okay. As long as it doesn't *sound* too similar then it's fine.

FWIW, DP is 1 of 4 boys and they all have "A" names - just because the parents liked those names! The same letter didn't hold them back. Oh and mil's name starts with an "A" too

Sarah - thanks I think I'm just more worried cos I've been thinking and no other member in my family has ever appeared to have repeated letters!!! LOL

doudou - good point. The end of it ends in the same sound as DD's name - but not DS's name.

Hmmm... I dunno..... lol... I do like the name though, liked it from when I was married to the first husband and thinking of having kids.. that was nearly bloody 10 years ago!

ETA - thanks Holly!! 5 A names in the same family? Crikey, I think I would probably get sick of writing A's.. LOL

I wouldn't worry about it. But would you be like me & feel that Miss M is left out coz she doesn't have an A name?
I feel like I need another baby just to have another B in the fam, lol.
If you are happy with the name, go for it

I don't think so. My two are Lily and Liam. Before Liam was born I was a bit worried about the L's in their names but now it doesn't sound strange to me. They also have different middle name initials, and I use their middle names on everything- LKS and LJS, so that differentiates them a bit more too. I also think of it in the future when they are grown. It wont matter when they are adults what their siblings names are. I don't get them confussed either which was another thing I was worried about. Believe it or not I get more confussed when with my neice and nephew (Justin and Ashley), their names are completely different to my kids, but they all end up being each others names!! (Its usually "Justin, no Lil, Liam.....NO ASHLEY arrrrgghhhh whoever you are, come here!!!")

I avoided repeating first intials because, for example if something came in the mail for A Surname then I guess i'd like to know who it was for without having to rip open the letter. Plus lots of things just have a first initial and the surname... like the sports captain board at school... it was like J.Smith, B.Jones, C.Johson etc etc etc. Plus for me... I do lots of cross stitching samplers that include the initials of all our family... we all have a different initial which makes it clearer who is who.
But it's a personal preference thing. Think of the Duggar family.... they have 18 family members that have the initial J!!! Imagine what they do when a letter comes in the mail for J.Duggar!!!

Gawd. I'd run out of names! lol

I know what you mean bout the initials being the same, I never quite experienced it, my dad is an M as well, and my nana is a MJ same as me, but we never lived in the same house, so didn't have a problem with mail. I think I actually liked the fact that my initials were exactly the same as my nan's though

Eww I've just realised that if I do go with this - if it is a girl - her initials will be nearly exactly the same as my mother in law - except I'll have A.E.G.D cos I'll chuck my mum's name in there as well - whereas MIL is A.G.D. Gawd. She'll probably think I've done it deliberately because she's special or something lol

Kel - hahahaha!! I do that here just with my two, and the two cats.. and the dog.. always yelling at someone - the wrong name always comes first. So many times I have called Miss M "Kruger"... LOL
