Default ?dropping day sleep

Hi Ladies,
Does it sound like my son is trying to drop his daytime sleep?
He used to sleep wonderfully from 12-2pmish each day and would be in bed by 7pm and sleep until 7am. The last few months he has been waking around 6am and really fighting his day sleep. He just plays in his room and chats to himself. On the days he does actually sleep he won't go to sleep at night until 8-8.30pm and waking at 6am. If he doesn't sleep during the day he is in bed by 7pm at the latest without a fuss and sleeps soundly until after 6.30am. Should I just let him not sleep? I have a 2 week old little girl so I would love for him to keep having that day sleep, but I think I am in denial.
My son is 2.5yrs. Is this too young to drop the sleep?
many thanks in advance

DS is 2.5 and has been dropping his sleep since about christmas time. More often than not, he won't have a sleep. We don't mind, cos if he has a sleep, then he won't go to sleep until about 9 or 9.30 at night.

We just trialled it for a few days, then let him have a nap, then the next day not have a nap. It was hard in the beginning but he got used to it, and now it is rare that he has a day nap. His sister will probably drop hers early too cos she's already only having one nap during the day - and he was 14 months before he did that to me!! lol
