Default Did anyone else have a drain in and how long is supposed to leak for?

Where my drain was in is leaking still. I went to the doctors the other day (Tuesday) to get it checked out and to have Lukie weighed and the doctor said cos its not red or infected it should be ok. Well tonight its red and itchy and still weeping. Im actually on antibiotics as it is cos after having a cath in I get urinary tracked infections everytime. I was kinda hoping this would help the situation a bit and Ill air the area out as much as I can.

Try rinsing the drain site with cooled boiled water mixed with salt. Its good that its still weeping, that means its open. Do you have any betadine? Or any iodine solution? Its a great safe solution you can use to sterilise the area.

If you are on antibiotics & this is happening they may not be the right ones. If you get a temp at all go to the hospital or GP asap. Good luck!

Hi Little sprocket
I agree with Christy
Use the salt wash 3-4 times a day and put the betadine on again everytine you use the salt water. Keep an eye on your temp and if it goes above 37.8 go to the doctor.
If it has not settled down within 4 days go to the doctor.
If you do not have any betadine then chlorhexadine will work.

Thanks Jodie for posting this - my wound got infected and was leaking for quite a while but I wasn't actually given any wound-cleaning instructions (besides keep it as dry as possible). I decided of my own accord to start bathing it with salt water a couple of days ago and was wondering about using chlorhexidine or betadine as well. So thanks for posting as you have answered my questions as well!
