Default wakes as soon as i put him down

    Help
Lachlan will fall asleep after a feed or a cuddle but as soon as i go to put him in the cot he stands up and screams and screams.
I cant get him to have a nap during the day in his cot at all.
Nights is also becoming a struggle
    Any suggestions

    hi tan

    - i went through this a few times over the last year with my DS. i used to hold him for his day sleeps until he was 10 weeks old and then at 5 months had to go back to cuddling to sleep again. he's pretty good now - generally goes to sleep without being cuddled.

what worked for me was introducing a pre-bed routine (which i still stick to) where the very last thing was a cuddle - i'd also wait until he was drowsy before putting him down. i think the routine helps him understand what's next, providing some predictability.

    so here's what i did:
    • pre-bed routine (books, nappy change, grobag, cuddle).
    • cuddle until drowsy
    • place in cot
    • leave room.
if he cried (not just the grizzly noise) i'd go in there and give another cuddle and repeat the process. it took a few days for DS to 'get it' though and it was hard going - i needed a lot of support along the way. once bub was falling asleep by himself this dramatically affected his night sleeps (for the better).

also if you haven't heard already, the book "the no cry sleep solution" by elizabeth pantley provides some really practical suggestions for helping bubs fall asleep without the breast/cuddle/dummy.

    hang in there

Is this a new thing he has just started doing? My DD was doing this a couple of weeks ago - just wouldn't sleep in her cot, cried if you put her in awake, woke up and cried if you put her in asleep. She would still sleep in the pram, or on the couch, but not in her cot. I crossed my fingers it was just a developmental thing and worked around and it, let her sleep in the pram. After a week it just stopped like that! Like it had never happened. We are still not perfect but she is back to sleeping in her cot and waking less at night.
