what to do? TTC - pcos & Under active Thyroid

Hi,

new to this myself...

have been TTC for 12 months now. been told I have PCOS and underactive thyroid.

Now been sent to Gyno.... he has tested my partner...he is all good!!!

so now me....I have has ultrasound and blood test b4 seeing gyno...

been to gyno now 4 times... he sent me for blood test just after Christmas to see if I was ovulating on the 18th Jan... (my period started 25th dec- 30thdec)...went back Monday 1st Feb he said that result showed no ovulation yet... I told him I had been to OPK at home and has positive read the 24th Jan (he told me it could have been wrong so dont worry bout it) he sent me for ANOTHER blood test that day and said another the next week and to see him in 2 weeks.

I said if I am not ovulating what happens... he said Clomid

I said what If I am ovulating but irregular (my cycles go for 6-12 weeks) he said "your guess is as good as mine"

if I am ovulating will he just leave it up to us to TTC AGAIN? or can he still help? and why all the bloods ? He knows its been 12 months, with PCOS and under active thyroid!!!

so frustrated all this waiting!!!

Hi and welcome to BellyBelly.
Is this gynae a fertility specialist?
If not, I think it might be a good idea to find one in your area (a reproductive endocrinologist would probably be best given your issues), even just make an appointment at a fertility centre and get some different advice.

There are sometimes treatments for PCOS, depending on circumstances. I presume your hypothyroidism is being treated?

Have you considered speaking to a natural practitioner? I had great success following the plan my naturopath laid out for me, it was completely non-invasive, and very effective!

I also have PCOS and have known for a very long time that i would not be able to make babies on my own, (hubbie said i was just being pessimistic! Huh proved him wrong! hollow victory tho I have a similar problem where I DON'T ovulate at all! even when on the pill i still get my period but it is not a true ovulation as no eggs were generated.
I got the ****s with nothing happening after 3 months of trying (but I already knew stuff wasnt working) so got an appointment with a fertility spec. I had a laparoscopy and hysteroscopy to make sure there was nothing physically stopping me from ovulating (blocked tubes etc) and then the doc discussed options. He was wary to give me clomid as PCOS sufferers may then produce way too many eggs (like 30!) and if you have sex you could end up being the octomum!
We went with IVF and were very lucky with our first round, 6 eggs at EPU, 3 that fertilised, one of which is now kicking me in the ribs 6 weeks away form birth.
It is a tricky and long road but if you feel your gyno isn't helping you or giving you the info you want, search out other options, a reproductive endocrinologist is prob your best bet as they know pretty much everything (and will tell you that constantly!) and do your homework! Being informed is the best weapon against infertility.

I have a similar situation. I have PCOS and do not ovulate at all on my own (no AF). Started off seeing a gyno Jan last year (09) who put me on Clomid and i did 2 rounds, with no response, so he sent me to an infertility specialist. Since seeing the specialist in June 09 he has put me on ovulation induction (OI) with FSH (Puregon) injections. The first cycle was very tedious, trying to find the correct dose to achieve ovulation, but not overdo it (the cycle is cancelled if there are any more than 2 follicles of good size). It took a good month of daily injections (but they dont hurt!). Had two cycles cancelled due to too many follicles (at least i know it works!) and one that i am not sure what happened, then the last one was a perfect cycle with one follicle forming, but AF arrived 11 dpo. So now onto my 5th OI and having scans about every 4 days. DH has been tested, all ok. I have not had the procedures to test my tubes etc. This will be the next step if no success this round or next round.

Since coming off the pill i had no AF for months, so saw my GP who referred me to a gyno. He identified PCOS and put me on provera to induce AF followed by clomid. Did this for 2 cycles with no response, at which point he referred me to an infertility specialist. Saw specialist and he started me on ovulation induction (after inducing AF) with daily FSH injections (Puregon). I am currently on my 5th cycle of this. In the meantime DH has been tested - all ok. I have not had my tubes etc checked as yet. He will do this if no success after 6 cycles on puregon. It's good because it's cheap, and it simply overcomes the problem of no ovulation or not knowing when ovulation is going to happen. I am monitored regularly with internal ultrasounds. Was difficult in the beginning to get the correct dose so as to produce 1 or 2 follicles at the most. Had 2 of the 5 cycles cancelled due to too many follicles

Hello I am a newbie here I have been reading some of the other posts. Have been ttc for a while now but the Thryoid is more than likely an issue. I have been consulting a homeopath going down a different avenue and she suggested that as my ovulation is all over the shop that i may have Pcos also. I went to my GP to get a referrral to a gyno who now wants me to have a HSG wants to see if my fallopian tubes are blocked...which honestly is freaking me out and a ultrasound and more blood tests. I haven't taken birth control for ten years now but I seemed to have gained weight since I went off it and the underactive thryoid has kicked in.
My age is also against me and the new gyno that I met last week says being 35-39yr old my chances of concieving are depleting fast, suggested I skip a step and go directly to IVF. Be grate full for the the children I have had. I have had 3 children in the past my youngest is 14. Was a teen mum to begin with. My current partner and I would like one of our own as the 3 I have aren't his. His sperm count is ok not the best but Gyno said will do the job. Gyno wants to put me on Thyroxine So lately I have seen a homeopath and have been using her remedies I like her shes a great woman, then the GP adviced me to "get off them asap" different beliefs and now the Gyno wants me on Thryoxine which at this time I have no idea what they are or what they do.
It was suggested by a few people too me that older want to be mums should try Chinese herbal medicines. anyone heard anything positive on that? Also can any one tell me if they have had a HSG and how it went painful or pleasant?
