Default Late Ovulation on Clomid

Hi everyone,
I am hoping someone may have some personal experience with this???

Briefly I took clomid for the first time this month (50mgs from cd2-cd6). I was prescribed this for a sustained shortened LP and lowered prog. showed a not so fab ovulations.

Anyway as you all would know ovulation is expected 5-10 days after the last clomid dose. I did my opk's from cd9. From cd17 I began to get second lines with a true positive on cd 20. Progesterone levels at cd21 indicated ovulation had not or had just occured which is congruent with my opk's. This has made my ovulation later than usual.

Now, I know that in a very few women clomid can increase their follicular phase as well as their luteal phase and it would seem I am one of them.

Has anyone else had this experience? I will have another prog level done tomorrow or Tuesday to confirm ovulation. I will meet with my gynae next week and we will decide on weather to up the dose to 100mgs. I would so very much appreciate others experiences. I am feeling a bit like a freak! I am concerned the late ovulation will mean poor egg quality/endometrial lining quality.

Thank you so much!

Sorry Deb - I can't help. My ovulation occurs around CD 14-16 after clomid (but it did that before clomid too). I am on 100mg though. It will be interesting to see what happens to your LP too now that you know when you ovulated.

Just a question - when is your gynae going to fulfill his end of the bet

Thanks Michelle, Yeah I will be interested too. I am just hoping I don't get to find out and I am pregnant! I am not feeling too hopeful though because of the late ovulation. My gynae says that it would appear the clomid has had affect on my cycle given the very late ovulation (for me) so that may mean that it will have increased my LP.

Why did you go straight to 100mgs?

Yeah, I think he might defer the bet!!!! Funny about that!
Thanks again for your input

I started on 50mg and then progressed to 100mg for the 3rd and 4th rounds prior to Caitlyn (I was naughty and self prescribed an increased dose after doing some reading). The literature seemed to hint at a higher conception rate at 100mg (for my reasons specifically). It may not be the case for everyone. I had a progesterone level done on Firday to check if adequate ovulation is occurring. My gynae was happy with the increase anyway.

I am hoping you will have such an extended LP that you won't need another follicular stage for at least 10 months!!!

P.S. I am not surprised your doc will defer his part of the bargain. What a sight!!

You are not a freak LOL!! My Cycles are normally between 35 -50 days, and clomid made absolutely no difference. So in answer to your question...I still ovulated around day 25 when i was on it.

Thanks Elly!
That's interesting. Like most things I guess everyone's body reacts differently.
So, did you ovulate on cd25 when you conceived your son?
Many thanks Elly

I took Clomid days 5-9 100mg, ( in combinatin with 1500mg Metformin) and ovulated day 20-22. The information brochure that came with Clomid says you ovutate 5-6 days after finishing Clomid, but for me that wasnt the case. My first cycle of Clomid I had a progesterone of 38, and second cycle my progesterone was only 8. Anyway, now not taking Clomid- not becasue it didnt work-for other reasons, so that is all I can add for now.

Hi Flowerchild

I am in a similar situation to you - constant short LP (5 consecutive cycles since finishing b/f). My FS suggested Clomid or FSH injections to improve the quality of O. But I'm a bit hesistant to try either just yet cause I'm still hoping to figure out why it's happening. He also said it might correct itself in the long term and I'd love to conceive "naturally" again.

Anyway, I was wondering if you can tell me how it has been for you so far. Are you having constant monitoring with this cycle? And what about side effects.

I know alot of women here are on Clomid but not many purely because of short LP. So maybe you can help me m,ake a decision about its effectiveness.

Many thanks.

Hi AussieChick,
I really experienced minimal side effects. I did get a bit grumpy (I will deny it if asked!) and I did get a few hot flushes but reallyfor me it was a non event.

I got pregnant even though I ovulated late and today I am 5 weeks. So, I love the clomid!

I believe it did it's job for me and that was to effectively stimulate my hormones and have a nice prog. rise to enable the pregnancy to implant.

I hope this helps.

Yes, I hit the jackpot first go - however I did ovulate on the clomid later than usual (which is an abberation), however it was effective at increasing my prog.levels (they were 60 at 7 dpo).
I took 50mgs (lowest dose) of clomid from cd2-cd6. I received a positive opk on cd20 so we are assuming I ovulated on cd21.

I hope this helps!

That's great news Flowerchild!

I could have started clomid (50mg) or FSH this current cycle, but cause I felt unsure I hesitated and left it too late - now I'm kinda kicking myself.

Did you have any misgivings about should I, shouldn't I? I guess my main thing is I want to know what's the cause of my poor quality O leading to LPD and if I can rectify it myself or if it will correct itself if I wait. But then I'm thinking all it could take is a few rounds of clomid and I might be pregnant! It's not like being diagnosed with PCOS or something else and knowing it's inevitable to take medication to help you fall pregant. I'm just so confused, but your story makes me feel there's hope. I'm only CD 9 of a 31/32day cycle so i guess I've got some time to think about it.

Best of luck for an uneventful 8 months

Yes, I did have a few misgivings - however, I knew I just wanted to get on with it and as my clock was tocking loudly I decided to go for it.
You will make a decison that is right for you.
GALLONS OF vibes to you.... :hug;

Hi All,

I am new to this forum, and it is really great. This is my first cycle on Clomid for short LP and low progesterone - 18. I took 25mg from Cd 5-9, but unfortunately yesterday CD22 I started spotting and today it is heavier. I will be ringing my specialist for my CD21 progesterone levels tomorrow, but I pretty much know they must be low. Does anyone know why I would be spotting and have possible AF so early being on Clomid? I would understand if I wasn't on it, as this is normal for me since my m/c in Feb, but the reason I am on Clomid doesn't seem to be working.

thanks for any help

Hi Flower child,

I was also under the impression that on clomid (i was on CD3-7) i would ovulate 5-6 days after the last pill, however just like you i didnt either, i was all down thinking this cycle didnt work and then out of the blue i did an OV test and WALLAH! That was on CD17 so in answer to your question yes i have had a similar experience with clomid, and am currently at 9DPO - fingers crossed for meeeeeee

Hi All

Stillhoping - it will be interesting to see what your Progesterone level is - might be an implantation bleed. I have heard it can be as heavy as a normal period in some cases. Otherwise, I'm guessing you know exactly when you ovulated, having BT's and all??? Maybe your FS will decide to up your dosage. Even though I haven't taken it yet, my FS started me on 50mg. Could be it wasn't enough to get that elusive "good" ovulation happening.

12bliss - best of luck, when are you testing? Are you going in for more BT's before a PG test? Is this your first cycle? Sorry, for the all Q's - still contemplating whether to start next cycle or not.

Hope all is going well with your PG Flowerchild - Baby dust to all!

Hi Aussie Chik,

I really don't know when I ovulated. My doc said it would be on Cd14 or 15, but he said the OPK don't work when you are on Clomid, so don't bother using them.... I did temperature charting but my temp rise was masive after taking the 5 days of Clomid and stayed high like after ovulation. I will be asking my doc tomorrow what that means.
I think I will be put on 50mg for the next cyle. I only hope that if this is AF that it comes on quickly, not like last time with 9 days of spotting before full AF, that is really draining as you still give yourself hope that it might be implantation bleeding. The highs and lows are a real killer.

Why haven't you started it yet?
