Default talking about crohns and pregnancy

    hi there everyone,

i have 6days left till the birth of my son, i suffer with crohns disease but am lucky that during the pregnancy it has stayed well away. im starting to have slight anxiety about the birth/delivery after reading a few things concerning this debilitating disorder. can anyone tell me if natural delivery is a safe way or having a c-section would be better for me coming from a medical point of view. i have read that doctors prefer to do c-sections in cases of women suffering from crohns.
hoping some can ease my thoughts..

I can't tell you too much as I don't suffer from crohns myself. I do know, however, that one of the women from my antenatal class has crohns disease and was able to birth vaginally. She did need an epidural as she didn't cope with the pressure on the bowel during labour, but she had no other difficulties at all.

I know it's not much, but I do hope it helps!

My cousin suffers terribly with Chrons, she's hospitalised at least twice a year. She was able to give birth without a problem. She did have an epidural though.

My cousin also said that her Chrons was the best it had ever been while she was pregnant.

    Best of luck to you.

    I don't have Crohns but i do have U/C.
I've had 2 natural drug free births & both times my colitis has been great after the birth.
I do start to get the cramping & tummy pains about 7wks after the birth tho.

    Hi,

I don't have Crohns but reading your question made me think about my problems with my bowel after CS which may or may not be relevant to you.

I had an emergency CS and had heaps of pain and discomfort afterwards due to the fact that my intestines had been handled during the surgery. It was very uncomfortable for the 2 weeks after birth and has taken me almost a year to get back to completely normal. I have heard that this is very common (to have post cs issues due to handling the intestines).

Maybe this would be more of an issue for you? It is definitely something to ask your ob/midwife/GP...
