anyone had experience with St George private hospital sydney?

Thanks for your response, am actually looking at the public hosp, not the private one..

Midwife Melissa, just wanted to ask you again, in the public hosp, if there is a complication with the baby in any way, is there an OB at hand who can assist with the complication, as just spoke to a friend who is horrified that am thinking of going public (there I go again getting all confused) as she said, about 12 years ago, she had a complication and her OB sorted out the issue almost immediately, which she feels if she was in the public hosp, she would have probably lost the baby...how soon does an OB come to your rescue? what happens if there are 2 ladies having complications at the same time, how is that handled?

Hi there,

yes, in the public hospital, there are doctors there. You need to know that in the private hospital, your doctor is not there all the time, s/he would be called in. In the public hospital, there is always someone there.

If there are 2 women needing medical help at the same time, another more senior doctor will be called in - there's someone on call for this reason.

Hello All

Sorry to come in late, lol. I am reading these posts with interest as I am booked to give birth in February at St George Public. I am currently in the STOMP midwife program, and its working well for me so far.. have only ever dealt with the one midwife so far and she is awesome. I am planning a drug free "active" birth and would love to use the BC facilities however it has been booked out since I discovered I was pregnant ( at 7 weeks) My midwife has been checking for me tho to see if any openings. I would dearly love a waterbith although Im not sure if you can have a waterbirth in the Public hosp? Does anyone know?

Yes in the birth centre, but not in the delivery suite ...
