Obstetrician Recommendations & Discussion Looking for an Obstetrician? Ask for member suggestions or feedback here. Please note that due to frequent legal defamation threats (they dont like bad things being said about them or they attempt to sue me as site owner) this forum is now a closed one. You can post a thread but you will need to ask for members to PM or email you with their feedback. Apologies for the inconvenience but we got sick of this forum turning into an Ob promotion thread, when we can't share bad experiences as well or we'll be silenced with threats of legal action.

Hi,

I can also vouch for Dr Skinner's breech delivery which I had with my second baby. The midwives at St Vincent's also raved about him being one of the best to do a safe breech vaginal birth- which was my experience. He is also lovely and incredibly supportive.

My 3rd daughter was a breech VB. My OB was happy for me to deliver both twins breech, as they both where up until late, unless I needed an induction. Twin 1 turned though. He wont do an induction on a breech baby. My 4th daughter was thought to be breech at 39 weeks, he also had no problems delivering her if she had of stayed in that position.

I saw Dr Weerasiri who's rooms are at Northpark private hospital in Bundoora. I don't think he is happy to do a Breech VB in all cases, but he definately doesn't have the breech = automatic C-section view most OB's nowdays have.

Dr Oliver Brown and Dr David Somerset, at the John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle, will also deliver vaginal breeches. They are both from the UK and they work with Dr Andrew Bisits who is director of obstetrics. They (all 3) will only deliver a frank breech. Footlings have to be a caesarean. I know that Dr Bisits will also try an external version late in pregnancy--don't know about the other two. My last was breech and Dr Bisits went over all these options in detail with me. HTH.

Hi everyone, have just found out we are expecting (6 weeks) and am now finding the whole ob thing very confusing and scary. I can imagine the birthing experience could really be less joyous if you were not well matched with your ob! I note the information for NSW etc, however does anyone have any information for SA obs that are breech delivery friendly? Any help would be greatly appreciated....

Hi Poppi and congratulations.

Don't get to worried about a breech baby-only 3% of babies are breech byt the time you are due. Obstetricians in SA who may deliver breech babies include Dr John Svigos, Dr Bill Antonas, Dr Chris Wilkinson (only works a Womens and Childrens and may not do private) and Dr Brian Peat. They are all very experienced obstetricians which is why they may comtemplate a breech birth but it does not necessarily follow they have better attitudes to birth that others. There are plenty of younger obstetricians with great attitudes to birth who will not contemplate a breech delivery because they either feel it is not safe for the baby in a private hospital or they just did not get enough experience with vaginal breech in their specialist training. Some will not contemplate for a first baby but may for a second. You need to shop around and ask around really. Try starting with you GP.

Hi Poppi,

You might like to come along to the Birth Matters group and meet some women who have had great births in Adelaide, in the public system, private with an ob, and at home. It's a fantastic group, lots of good quality information and sharing, and lots of positive birth stories.

We meet at the Eastwood community centre, and our next meeting is 15th March from 7.30pm in the back room. If you'd like further info about this group and the other birth information and support groups in Adelaide, please email me at tan1969@tpg.com.au

We will also be having an information stand at Womad this year, so if you are coming along look out for us and come and have a chat, grab a newsletter and see what we have to offer...

Tania

Hello all,
Update on the Newcastle OBs...Dr David Somerset has now left Australia and moved overseas.
Dr Oliver Brown is still on staff at the John Hunter AND will be in part-time private practice as of October. Dr Andrew Bisits is still director of obstetrics, still delivering vaginal breeches as well.
