Obstetrician Recommendations & Discussion Looking for an Obstetrician? Ask for member suggestions or feedback here. Please note that due to frequent legal defamation threats (they dont like bad things being said about them or they attempt to sue me as site owner) this forum is now a closed one. You can post a thread but you will need to ask for members to PM or email you with their feedback. Apologies for the inconvenience but we got sick of this forum turning into an Ob promotion thread, when we can't share bad experiences as well or we'll be silenced with threats of legal action.

Hi Lilybella
I also became pregnant through IVF and as my FS is also an obstetrician I made the decision to stay with him. This was despite the fact that he is over an hour away and there is a hospital with a maternity unit 20 minutes away. My decision was based on the fact that I felt comfortable with him, I found he had a sense of humour, was easy to talk to and was happy to answer any questions I had and generally I felt he was fairly easygoing.

When I saw him after the 6 week scan, he also gave me the choice as to what option I was going to take in terms of ante natal care for the rest of the pregnancy and was happy for me to make a decision either way.

I know some women say they feel obliged to keep seeing their FS when they are also an Ob, but really there's no reason to if you don't want to.

Despite not having given birth yet, I have been happy with the choice I made to stick with him and have been happy with the care I have received.

Also, I am hoping to avoid the use of drugs when the time comes for labour and the hospital I am
booked into have a 'Family Birthing Unit' which isn't like a hospital room and is designed for women who wish to have minimal medical intervention, you just needed your Ob's ok to use it, which he was fine with.

Perhaps the word 'intructed' was the wrong term. I am well aware the midwives are not animals at no stage did I intimate they were. Isn't this a great site that we can take words completely out of all context and make it something it is not.

My midwives (or maybe I shouldn't say "my" as that may imply I own them) were wonderful in everyway and I am very greatful for the support and help they gave both me and my Husband.

BTW great first post and constructive addition to the thread Dottie maybe it will be your first and last ey!!!

Kris, I don't wanna speak for someone else as I don't really know what dottie meant by that comment. But I took it more as a jibe at the treatment that MWs often get from OBs rather than something against you.

On forums we cannot "hear"the tone somebody is saying something. So it is easy to take things the wrong way.

By the way, to instruct someone has nothing to do with treating them like an animal. It merely means "giving instructions" I "instruct" DH to do things quite regularly. Like to transfer the washing into the dryer once the washing machine has finished.
