Default Your children's obsessions!

Clothes, food, toys, anything, what is it and how do you deal with it?

My 3 year old is obsessed with tutus and I mean OBSESSED. Sure it was cute for the first 4 weeks but months on its just ridiculous.

And its one tutu in particular, a trelise cooper (don?t mess with my tutu) skirt we picked up on sale ages ago! It?s a full on, stick out, antique ivory coloured and she wants to wear it 24/7.

I put her into her PJ?s last night, put their dirty washing in the laundry basket, then when I got up in the middle of the night I caught her wearing it over the PJ?s asleep in it!

I know it?s not a big deal but it?s getting a little frustrating and I don?t want her to be so attached to something which she will grow out of. There will be tears lol.

So what have your kids been bonkers for? And how did you wean them off it?

LOL awwww cute, mom!! I'm sure she'll grow out of it and tears are part of life so is realising that wearing a tutu 24/7 is "dorky" (just wait till she's a teen)

Why not think about taking her to ballet class?? That way you can let her wear her tutu's at an appropriate time.

I think my dd is going to be a neat freak!! And that would be my doing. She wipes her mouth after every bite, asks me to wash her hands constantly and yesterday she was at playgroup and they had to stand on foamshapes ... she picked her's up and told me it's dirty, procceded to wipe it off with her hand and THEN she would stand on it. She also wiped her hands on her pants afterwards and gave me a "hands is dirty" look

Goodluck

My 3 year old is obsessed with Captain Feathersword. When I say obsessed I mean OBSESSED. He talks like him and if we call him by his name he wont respond until we call him captain.

My 7yo loves cars.

My nearly 3 yo is obsessed with collecting "Cars" movie cars - "What are we missing Mummy?" It doesn't help that DH is reliving his Star Wars figure collecting childhood, and loves the search.

DD is a bit more keen on Barbie than what I'd like, but she doesn't really have any obsessions.

DS on the other hand - he has an obsession with Cars (the movie...the toys...the jigsaw puzzles...anything!) that has been going on since he was 18 months old. He is now almost three and it shows no signs of abating. He has Car's jammies, Cars singlets, Cars toys and puzzles...and if you ask him what he would like to watch the answer is always - you guessed it - Cars. I am SO OVER THAT MOVIE.

Apparently there is a sequel coming out early next year so I am not seeing any reprieve in the near future

OK, my 3 year old was movie obsessed. She'd watch one, like it, then watch it repeatedly for weeks on end, then find another one. Bindi, Dora & Daddy Day Care are just a few. Are We There Yet is the latest

DS is obsessed with wheels. I mean in love obsessed. Stand him next to a car & he will hug the wheel, then try to unscrew the nuts, then hug it again. Keeps him amused for hours

Frickin' xbox. I'm not joking. She LOVES watching DH play it - it's one of their little 'bonding' activities and she can't get enough of it - I turn my back for a second and hear the baby-gate get pulled open, then when I go to check on her she's sitting up on the bed with the controller in her hand, pointing at the TV yelling, 'GAAAAAMMME! GAAAME!' and pressing buttons hahaha.
I let her 'play' Sonic the Hedgehog if I'm in a good mood, she just presses random buttons and laughs if she gets a 'ring' or manages to make Sonic jump

Oh, and cars. Like, riding in them. Doesn't care where she's going, as long as it involves a ride in the car. She knows how to start a car, put it in gear, release the handbrake, put on a seatbelt, and change the CD purely from watching DH and I from her carseat in the back. If she climbs into the front, there is a HUGE tantrum if I try to take her out before she's ready (which takes forever, she'll play in there pretending to drive for hours if I let her!).

Seth is obsessed with Star Wars (cars has been dumped badly). He is getting a new quilt set from the US for his "big bed" and every day he asks for it. And every day he tells me what characters will be on it. When people come to the front door he even asks them if they know Darth Vader or C3PO... I'm trying to stop him from getting *too* into it because then it will be a toddlerdom thing... but alas I think he's hooked. He also loves pirates and especially Jolly Roger flags. His favourite toy is a pirate ship we got him for his birthday, I think he'll need another soon.

DD she loves anything alternative, and yes this might seem cute but when you're in JB hifi and there's a dude who is pierced everywhere with dreaded beard, black eye liner, barely any untattooed skin and so forth and DD at the top of her lungs yells "MUM he's sooooo cooooool!" and then starts to follow the poor guy around like a lost puppy it can be embarrassing. Funnily enough though apart from the poor guy who likes to shop for music without being harassed by a 7 year old she does seem to attract the same "awww" from the funky like herself. Where most children stare and point out of curiosity or fear she does so out of admiration. Other than that its Veronicas clothing/accessories and thats about it...

OMG! I have so many of those things around the house! Apparently he is still missing Tex from his collection. I keep saying it doesnt matter because he lost lizzie months ago. "Then we have to buy another lizzie too mum"...... I have spent a small fortune on these cars only to have Sam and Harry fight over who is playing with who!

Harry however is obsessed with movies with talking animals. I swear he must think there is something wrong with our dog. Ice Age, Madagascar, Dr Dolittle, Over the Hedge, Bee Movie, Finding Nemo, Garfield... Every night there is some talking animal movie on in the bedroom taking over MY laptop! Don't turn it off - you wont get any sleep. He only just fell asleep 30 minutes ago... watching Madagascar 2. Oh, and he has cute little names for them all too. That one is "Ooh Ahh". The first one is Bobo. We still haven't worked out why. Then there is "Where da baby", "Scrat", "Line, Line, Line", "R.J", "Buzzy", "Momo".....

The only movie he watches without talking animals.... talking Cars...

DS changes obsessions every month or so. Right now it's Steve Irwin: we have on Wiggly Safari most days, he shouts "crikey" a lot, wrestles his stuffed toys to the ground, causes DH to sing Wiggles songs at work (mwahahaha) .

Before that it was Tractor Tom, then Chuggington, Thomas The Tank, The Jungle Book... at least it changes regularly so there's no chance of DH putting up themed bedroom things: he was considering Thomas paper or Cars border... NO. Not in my house!

[Charlotte is obssessed with her cloth wipes...carries them around everywhere, wipes thing, puts them in piles and then throws them around the room so she can collect and stack them again! lol

She is a clean freak - wipes her hands all the time, her feet, her highchair table, her mouth...everything - she even cleans my walls sometimes! hehehe gets that from her dad

And shoes- she will try and put her sandals on over her runners...wanted to SLEEP in her runners tonight! That took some coaxing to get them off lol and her gumboots...wonders around for ages saying "boots! boots!" and will throw a tantrum if she cant get them on because she has them on the wrong foot.

I seem to spend most of the day taking shoes on and off and on again....

come ot think of it, she asked to put on 5 - yes FIVE - pairs of socks the other day...wanted 6 but we couldnt get them on over the others! hehehehe

HAHAHA Cai I'm so used to DD's tattoo and piercing obsession I'd forgotten about it!! DH and I have a few and DD LOVES seeing tattooed people when we're out and about lol, she points and yells, 'Tah-tooooo!' and if she gets a chance she'll go up and just grab the person and check out their ink lol

She is always grabbing pens that we leave lying around and scribbling all over her skin, telling us she's doing tattoos lol

...at least she hasn't tried 'tattooing' the walls or furniture yet, just herself and whoever will sit still long enough to endure her stabbing you with a pen lol

Gothmum .. it must be very interesting for them. My sisters has quite the tattoo collection and dd is totally nuts over it. A while back me and DH got some temp (not yet up to getting ink permentanty) and she is CONSTANTLY asking me to write on her ankle so she can have a tattoo. Even the socks with pictures on it is getting called tattoos.
If she visited her grandpa, she will come home and brag about her tattoos grandpa did on her - hehehe - and at bath time ask DADDY to come and wash it off.
