Default John Flynn Private hospital - expenses query

Hi ladies & gents,

First timer here! My hubby and I have decided to start trying for a family in the near future. I'm in the VERY EARLY stages of researching pre-pregnancy health and budget planning. I live near the John Flynn hospital and have always been interested in waterbirthing, which they offer here, should I be eligible for it when the time comes. I have read other comments on this forum and it is highly regarded by many members here. We have private health insurance, Defence Health, and they are also associated with this hospital.
May I please get an indication of the costs associated with the general scans, tests, obstetrician, anaesthetist, etc. I understand it can vary and any indications are welcome.
Any comments or recommendations is also most welcome.
We plan to visit our family doctor soon for checkups... would you recommend contacting John Flynn for an appointment to discuss expenses/pregnancy issues prior to becoming pregnant?
Thank you very much It's exciting and terrifying....

I would call John Flynn and get them to advise you which OB work from this hospital.. you would then need to call each OB and find out the indivual cost of using their services.. each OB has a different rate etc..
good luck!

Thank you, Mrs T. That was I quick reply, I love it!
I wasn't sure if it was too premature calling before I am pregnant, cheers for confirming my intuition.

I'll probably sound like a bubbling idiot on the phone but here I go....haha

hi there,

I am having my bub at JFH in November.
My OB is Dr Dutt. His initial consult was $200, each visit thereafter is $100. He charges a $2000 managment fee at 20 weeks (which we have just paid - and this put us over the Medicare safety net so got $950 of it back).

As for the hospital costs, I have to pay $500 as excess for my private health on admission, I am completely unsure of fees after this. My private health is a gap cover program, so Im hoping there wont be too many more out of pocket expenses!!

Good luck!!

Hi ..

I see Dr Trueman.. who is just devine! His initial consult was 125 then follow up is 85 his management fee was 1800 payable between 20-30 weeks... plus i guess you will probably have a hospital excess. I am with medibank private and the excess is 200! Dr trueman is gap covered with all health funds bar one which skips my mind currently but it was a healthfund that was obscure i had never heard of L xo
