Putting your pets on raw foods for a longer life...

We'll do a progress check every 2 days I am already on it but will be following your journies. I liken this to the In-Liven stuff we have been doing on BB, started with one or two doing it with fabulous results, then everyone got on the bandwagon!!!

I want you to commit to two weeks of putting your pet on the raw foods diet and reporting in on your progress, challenges and experiences. As I have seen with Simba, he gained muscle, weight, strength and a beautifully healthy glossy coat (not to mention his health after a terribly mystery illness) after ditching so called 'cat food' and going on the raw foods diet. I have included the diet in my email for cats, for dogs you can get it from the Raw Meaty Bones website.

So please reply here if you want to be added, I will make up a list and we can update on our progress. Then if you are happy and / or notice a difference, I challenge you to keep the diet

I'm in - my dogs STINK, and one is quite old, so if we can improve his quality of life I'd feel much better.

I'm really interested Kelly, in the diet more so than the challenge (no pets here ATM), as I remember my vet telling me about staying away from commercial pet foods when we had our dog Tobey, who now lives with MIL.

Hmmm... I had my cat Chamba on raw red meat when he ws a kitten and he ended up with some viral thing in his joints! Vet told me to get him off it immediately!! I still occasionally give them raw meat...

Any tips?

Ooooh no not meat its too rich for cats.... you can read the diet shortly about to send out the email. Breast meat and kangaroo is also too rich for cats....

I would be interested in doing it with our pup. But DH says it would probably get too expensive to do.

i wouls be interested in seeing others progress before we commit - we have two big dogs, two little dogs and two cats, all of whom we've just bought bulk food for! DH won't commit to anything without seeing people with results first so will be watching with interest

we already make sure all of the dogs get raw meat and bones daily, and substitute with processed food. cats get tinned food cos they're fussy little buggers!! might have to retrain the hubby AND the furbabies....

I know some people might say that buying pure foods are more expensive but if it avoids a vet's fee for a preventable illness then that's money well saved!!!

Eating what nature intended just makes perfect sense! You can't improve on nature.

Is there a dog diet? as i only found the cat one. i would like to look at it before starting!!

Its following the guidelines on the Raw Meaty Bones website. Very simple really

It's nothing sinister, expensive or dangerous. Just what dogs and cats were supposed to eat, and is tonnes better than tinned food. Its devised by a vet, several vets have written books on raw foods diets, some on the above website you can buy. Give man's best friend, man's best food.

Just a few words of warning:
a) Make sure you never ever feed your pets cooked bones. Period.
b) Dogs are actually omnivores like us, not true carnivores like cats, so bare that in mind.
c) It's all very well and good to say "that's what they'd be eating in the wild" but these aren't wild animals, they've become domesticated over thousands of years and their dietary needs have adapted along with them.
Having said that, good luck to those of you who choose to partake!

Lauren all the guidelines are on the Raw Meaty Bones website. They stress never to feed pets cooked bones which I have always known anyway, since I grew up with a mother who bred and showed Golden Retrievers. Like I said, it's important that people check out the site for more info on the diets - but it's simple. My cat is much healthier on it than tinned mush.

It's worth a try and people can always stop if they don't like it or think it's unsuitable for their pet.
