Vaxxed Review – Written By Someone Who Has Actually Seen It

Vaxxed Review - Written By Someone Who Has Actually Seen It

The documentary, Vaxxed: From Cover-Up to Catastrophe, was thrust into the limelight after it was removed from the line-up of the internationally renowned Tribeca Film Festival. Vaxxed then went on to screen in cinemas across the US, selling out in many venues.

In Australia, the premiere screening, to be held at the Castlemaine Local and International Film Festival (CLIFF), was cancelled.

A statement from organisers said the film’s withdrawal was due to members being “personally and professionally threatened”. Apparently, there was a bomb threat involved. Such bullying, aggressive behaviour is a total disgrace in our ‘free' country.

A second attempt to screen the film elsewhere in Castlemaine met a similar fate. It became clear the only way I would be able to see Vaxxed for myself (in the near future at least) was in the comfort of my own home.

Vaxxed is definitely the documentary they don't want you to see – even in Australia!

Unlike Australia, the United States continues to screen Vaxxed. Despite all the hurdles and roadblocks the film has faced, in mid-August, it took out the top spot for best selling documentary on Amazon.

I decided I needed not only to watch the documentary, and form my own opinion of it, but to write a Vaxxed review as well – especially as many media reports have been unfairly written by people who haven’t even seen the film.

Here is the trailer, if you haven't seen it already.

Vaxxed Review: Synopsis

Vaxxed revolves around the events that took place as a result of a series of phone calls between biologist Doctor Brian Hooker, and a senior scientist from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Doctor William Thompson. The conversations began in 2013 and spanned 10 months.

In 2004, Doctor Thompson led the CDC’s study on the Measles/Mumps/Rubella (MMR) vaccine, which was said to disprove any link to autism.

During the conversations (replayed in the film) Doctor Thompson suggests Doctor Hooker look at a particular data set from the MMR study. He then admits the CDC had manipulated data in their final report, which revealed a causal relationship between the MMR vaccine and autism.

The problematic issue brought to light by the Vaxxed team is the timing of the MMR vaccine – specifically the shot given between 12 and 18 months.

The data revealed a statistically significantly increased risk of autism for children given the MMR vaccination before three years of age, suggesting something developmentally important (and therefore risky) might be occurring at around 12-18 months.

Something to bear in mind if you're Australian: there are two shots of the MMR vaccine in the 12-18 month period – one at 12 months of age and one at 18 months of age – only 6 months apart. Then there's another MMR shot at four years of age.

Compare this to the United Kingdom, where there are only two MMR shots. One given between 12-13 months, then the second at three years and four months of age.

Since vaccination schedules are based on the same research, why are we doing it so differently?

Submitting Evidence Of Fraud

Doctor Thompson engaged a whistleblower lawyer, and released an official statement about what went on at the CDC, which you can read on the legal firm’s website here.

Here's a snippet:

“I regret that my co-authors and I omitted statistically significant information in our 2004 article, published in the journal Pediatrics. The omitted data suggested that African American males who received the MMR vaccine before age 36 months were at increased risk [164% increase] for autism”.

The final paper also omitted another finding: the risk of developing autism in the ‘isolated autism' group (a group of children who had no other pre-existing health problems) after receiving the MMR vaccine between 12-18 months was 700-800% higher than in those who received the vaccine after three years of age. So, the younger the children were when they got their MMR vaccine, the riskier it appeared to be.

Doctor Thompson handed over to Congress thousands of documents proving the allegations made in Vaxxed.

You can download some of these documents, to look at for yourself.

After reviewing the evidence, Congressman Senator Posey gave a powerful five minute speech, emphatically pleading for action. Click the play button below to view it – it's a must watch.

In the following five minute video, you can see Senator Posey sternly questioning the CDC – the most important health organisation in the whole world – about their autism research. Yet all this time later, all that can be heard from Congress is the sound of crickets.

“But What About That Discredited Doctor Andrew Wakefield?”

Despite what many people assume, Vaxxed is not all about British academic gastroenterologist, Doctor Andrew Wakefield.

The documentary came about after Doctor Wakefield (who qualified as Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1985 and was awarded a Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists in 2001) was approached by Doctor Hooker, so it makes sense for him to be in it.

In parts of Vaxxed, Doctor Wakefield is seen discussing the beginnings of the autism-MMR link. Bear in mind there was a team behind the MMR case study – the research paper included 12 other well regarded co-authors.

Repeatedly, the film shows documents and video hearings (recorded at the time of the initial MMR controversy) where Doctor Wakefield clearly states their findings did not prove a link between autism and MMR. But because the parents who sought his help were convinced that the symptoms of autism began right after the MMR vaccinations, he was obligated to report it in the case study.

This is something we haven't seen in the pharmaceutically-funded media, who are in turn owned by those who have significant financial interests in pharmaceutical companies. They feed each other.

So What Did Doctor Wakefield Actually Say?

What Doctor Wakefield actually suggested was to separate the combined MMR vaccine (known as a multivalent or polyvalent vaccine) into three individual vaccines (monovalent vaccines), until further study can provide proof that the combined MMR vaccine is safe.

These single vaccines were available in the US and the UK at the time of the study, resulting in increased demand (however it wasn't long until the manufacturer made the decision to stop making them available that way).

This is a fair call. Shocking? Controversial? Hardly.

The previous version of the MMR vaccine was found to cause meningitis, yet the formula was still used – but in other countries, and under a different name.

That is perhaps the shocking part. But Doctor Wakefield’s suggestion sounds like something any intelligent, caring, Hippocratic Oath-bound doctor and parent would do.

“The world lost one of it’s greatest scientific minds of our time when Andy Wakefield was taken from us. This was a man who was doing studies that were going to lead to healthier vaccines and better ways to take care of the health of our children. That unfortunately was going to cost a lot of money for the vaccine industry, and they cared a lot more about their industry and their money than they did about the health of children.” – Del Bigtree, Producer of Vaxxed

But what about all the other studies that found no proof of the MMR vaccine being linked to autism?

You'll probably see the name Poul Thorsen associated with those studies. Thorsen is currently listed as a fugitive on the Office of Inspector General’s Most Wanted Fugitive list, after being indicted on 22 counts of wire fraud and money laundering in April 2011. He allegedly diverted over $1 million of the CDC's grant money to his own personal bank account. Thorsen submitted fraudulent invoices on CDC letterhead to medical facilities assisting in the research for reimbursement of work allegedly covered by the grants.

You can read about that here.

Our Appalling History Of Discrediting Those Whose Findings Impact An Industry

According to the dictionary, ‘to discredit' means ‘to injure the credit or reputation of; defame'. But being discredited doesn't mean you are wrong.

Once upon a time, a Hungarian doctor named Ignaz Semmelweis was discredited and then thrown into an asylum.

His crime?

Discovering when doctors washed their hands between patients, especially dead ones, fewer new mothers died after giving birth. His finding saved countless lives, and it could have saved many more, had doctors listened to him.

But his profession couldn’t entertain even the possibility they were wrong about everything they’d learned.

For those who would prefer a more recent example, there's this statement by Jay Gordon MD, a renowned pediatrician and Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at UCLA Medical School:

It took fifty years before the courts finally acknowledged that cigarette smoking causes cancer. There were billions of dollars at stake. The dozens of court decisions that there “was no proof” were supported by physicians, expert witnesses of all types and hundreds of millions of dollars spent on attorneys. Experts and doctors alike stated over and over again that we need not continue studying this issue because there was just no proof. Let me state very simply, vaccines can cause autism.”

So, not much has changed. It's no wonder the general public are losing so much trust.

Being discredited means people have sought to discredit you. Perhaps people who see you as a multi million or billion dollar liability.

Ultimately, what are we taught while growing up? Surely to hear both sides of a story.

And when we do, we often realise they are very different.

If you are genuinely interested in hearing Doctor Wakefield’s story and not just relying on the media’s version, you can read his book, Callous Disregard or you can watch his story on YouTube.

In the video below, Doctor Wakefield addresses all of the common allegations made against him in the media, including allegations he was making a vaccine to compete with MMR (when he actually applied for a patent for a nutritional transfer factor) and he discusses the birthday party where he collected blood samples from children, with full consent from both children and parents (the parents were doctors too, as is his wife). So if you've heard something you're not sure about, this video likely covers it.

What Do I Think?

Vaxxed presents a very compelling and worrying case for fraud having occurred at the CDC.

What speaks many volumes louder, though, is the complete lack of action and response from those who are charged with making health decisions in the best interests of our children, rather than protecting an industry.

They have taken no proactive steps to rectify the situation, reassure the public, or fix any problems; they have simply gone on the defensive. There have been no steps to re-introduce the vaccine separately, even if only to quell the growing voices of concern. And so much of the world, it seems, is set in attack mode while we wait for answers.

A 2008 Nobel Prize winner and virologist, Doctor Luc Montagnier, who contributed to the discovery of the AIDS virus, is also featured in Vaxxed. He reiterates the belief that evidence regarding this MMR study has been hidden by the CDC all this time, and he is disappointed. Doctor Montagnier says the fraud ranks very high in the ethics of medicine and science.

Doctor Rachel Ross, a family physician of 10 years and previous co-host on the Emmy award winning show, The Doctors, said she almost fell out of her chair when she saw the documents Del Bigtree (producer of The Doctors for 6 years, but now Vaxxed producer) presented to her.

You can hear her version of events here, including her comment that other colleagues are too scared to speak out on the issue of vaccination.

In Australia, doctors, nurses, midwives and other health professionals risk losing their registration or licence to practice, if they question vaccines.

If you'd like to read a review written by a doctor in the United States (where free speech is much more acceptable) who is an Ob/Gyn and has a Masters in Public Health, you can do so here.

“I’ve covered this as thoroughly as any story I’ve every done as a medical journalist in my life. And the really sad thing is the amount of doctors I’ve spoken to who’ve said to me, “Del, I know that vaccines are causing autism. But I won’t say it on camera, because the pharmaceutical industry will destroy my career, just like they did to Andy Wakefield”.” – Del Bigtree

There are far too many unanswered questions, far too much censorship, and too many court cases – past and present – involving pharmaceutical companies and their handling of safety studies. We need a Royal Commission or an equivalent inquiry, once and for all.

Ultimately, the question on many people’s minds is: why would the government not want to investigate this claim, if potentially millions of children across the globe are allegedly being  harmed by the MMR vaccine?

The answer probably lies in the fact that if it's proved to be true, the US compensation program could be sued for all cases of autism since the 2004 paper was finalised. Consumer trust, shareholder trust, profits, and the economy would be in turmoil.

According to Thompson, more than 1 million children have been diagnosed with autism since the 2004 study – a fact for which he admits great shame.

We are not dealing with small pockets of isolated cases, or stories being told by alternative, conspiracy theorist parents. These are parents with normal jobs and normal lives. They had their children vaccinated, and thought they were doing the right thing, until they noticed a reaction and significant change, immediately after or soon after vaccination.

All these parents tell the same chilling stories. First there was the vaccine. Then the high fever. Seizures. Vomiting. Head banging. Diahorrea. Then, once the fever broke, it was like a light had been switched off. Previously walking, talking babies who were meeting all their developmental milestones were no longer doing the things they were doing before the vaccination. No eye contact. No recognition of who was with them. Gone – just like that.

You can see for yourself the uncanny resemblance between the stories from parent after parent. They are not only in the Vaxxed documentary, but new stories are being posted daily on the Vaxxed Facebook page, and elsewhere on the web.

When you see that these are everyday, working class people, torn apart with the same sad stories, you'll probably think differently.

***MAJOR UPDATE***

The Director of the CDC, Doctor Thomas Frieden, has formally blocked a subpoena for Doctor William Thompson in a case of vaccine damage. You can see the statement here.

Dr. Frieden stated “Dr. William Thompson's deposition testimony would not substantially promote the objectives of CDC or HHS.”

No surprises for someone who must have something to hide. An appeal has been launched in the meantime, so hopefully we'll have some encouraging news soon.

In addition to this massive breakthrough, a new group of 12 CDC whistleblowers have made themselves known, calling themselves, CDC SPIDER, which is short for CDC Scientists Preserving Integrity, Diligence and Ethics in Research. In an article published by the Huffington Post, they were quoted as saying:

“It appears that our mission is being influenced and shaped by outside parties and rogue interests… and Congressional intent for our agency is being circumvented by some of our leaders. What concerns us most, is that it is becoming the norm and not the rare exception. These questionable and unethical practices threaten to undermine our credibility and reputation as a trusted leader in public health.”

Every Seven Minutes, A Child Is Diagnosed With Autism In The US

How can it be natural, or a coincidence, that every seven minutes, a child is diagnosed with autism in the United States?

And if autism increases at the current rate, data shown in Vaxxed predicts that by 2032, 50% of children and 80% of boys will have autism. This poses another question:  how could a society cope with such a great responsibility?

It's been estimated that the lifetime care of a child with autism costs around $5 million. In 2000, Congressman Dan Burton estimated that the future cost to taxpayers for the care for autistic children could reach trillions of dollars.

What happens when ageing parents are no longer able to care for their children? How will schools cope with the increasing rates of autism?

Whichever way you look at it, it’s not a pretty picture for hardworking taxpayers, or families who have children with autism.

What Does Vaxxed Hope To Achieve By Showing This Documentary?

Many people will have you believe that Vaxxed hopes to achieve one goal: no-one is vaccinated.

But if you actually watch the film, you will hear the four most important things the team at Vaxxed hope to achieve:

#1: For Congress to subpoena Doctor William Thompson, and investigate the CDC for fraud
#2: For Congress to repeal the 1986 National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act, and hold manufacturers liable for injuries caused by their vaccines
#3: That single measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine be made available separately, immediately
#4: That all vaccines be classified as pharmaceutical drugs, and tested accordingly

What is so bad about that?

Why are we being prevented from seeing a film that makes some very valid, sensible requests, and will put a decades-long debacle to rest? No matter what side of the fence you sit on the topic of vaccination, everyone should support the four important action points above. Everyone stands to benefit from the outcome.

To me, it makes absolute sense that these four things are enacted. In the face of a fast-growing movement by parents, Members of Congress, medical professionals and other authority figures, who all have serious questions, it seems to be the way to give them answers – answers which they will never stop seeking.

So why aren't they doing it?

You can only conclude it’s because they have something to hide. Otherwise they would be able to prove effortlessly that the vaccine safety activists are wrong, and the whole matter would be over.

I live in Australia, a country with no compensation plan for vaccine injury (unlike the US which has paid out $3bn of tax-payer funded compensations). Here are the four things I want the Australian government to do:

#1: Demand that Congress subpoena Doctor William Thompson, and investigate the CDC for fraud
#2: Hold manufacturers liable for injuries caused by their vaccines
#3: Make the single measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine available separately, immediately, until proven safe (or alternately update the vaccination schedule to reduce potential harm before 3 years of age)
#4: Have all vaccines classified as pharmaceutical drugs, and tested accordingly

It’s worth noting that the compensation program the US offers has paid out money in autism cases but, due to the CDC's study, claims have been denied.

There is only so much you can fit into a 90 minute documentary. I am sure there is much more to the story. Regardless, the story needs to be told. Censorship angers many people. It should anger you too.

Isn't This Film Dangerous?

No. To the contrary, isn’t it dangerous when organisations that have the power to control healthcare policy and decision-making  aren't independently monitored or evaluated? And isn’t it dangerous when an organisation has so much money and power that it can appear to be untouchable?

I'm sure authorities and those with a vested interest in vaccination fear the wide scale release of Vaxxed. If more parents started to question the MMR vaccine or refused it, then it would be financially and legally chaotic for them. Perhaps, the only way to get to the bottom of the truth is for the collective voice to grow louder. Indeed, that’s all that has ever created massive change and improvement.

In the meantime, Merck, the maker of the MMR vaccine, is facing at least two federal court cases related to the mumps vaccine (which it manufactures exclusively). Two scientists, who have turned whistleblowers, claim that Merck “fraudulently misled the government and omitted, concealed, and adulterated material information regarding the efficacy of its mumps vaccine in violation of the FCA [False Claims Act]”.

Other claims include allegations that Merck “used improper testing techniques, manipulated testing methodology, abandoned undesirable test results and falsified test data”, amongst many others.

Sounds familiar? It will be if you watch Vaxxed.

The whistleblowers also claim Merck skewed tests of the vaccine by adding animal antibodies to blood samples. Yet the vaccine is still in use, while it all plays out. I believe the case is due to be heard in 2017.

  1. I have a vaccine injured child and this movie validates what happened to my son. Thank you for writing this very honest and informative article.

  2. Wow. Mind blown. I’ll be ordering a copy for sure. I have always loved Belly Belly and I really appreciate the reminder of how important free speech is in our current society. I will make an effort to see this film now thank you.

  3. Great article belly belly! It makes sense for parents to want answers. Researching any disputing information is the least our scientists and medical profession can do for us and our kids……!!!

  4. I can’t understand why the furor in mainstream media against showing this film?? It doesn’t sound like an anti-vax film to me….???
Thankyou for the honest review and for actually watching it!!!

  5. An excellent review. I cannot understand why we, as parents and taxpayers, are continually fobbed off when trying to educate ourselves about the safety of vaccines and are instead treated like idiots. We deserve to know the truth. Thanks for actually watching it and reviewing it properly!

  6. This is a very good review of the film. I agree completely this is not an anti-vax film, this film simply asks us to question if this vaccine (MMR) is safe in it’s current form on the current timeline as it seems it is not given the information presented. Parent’s need the right to make informed choices and if there is any risk they should be given the option to delay the vaccines and give them separately until it is proven otherwise safe. My heart goes out to all of those once healthy children now autistic and their parents. I am thankful this has not happened to my family and out of respect we all owe it to them to see this film and form our own conclusions/support.

  7. Hi Kelly, I’m really keen to watch this, but I thought Australia was region 4. Are we able to get it to watch here? Thanks 🙂

      1. cool, thank you! I’m using a mac but doesn’t have a disc drive, so I might have to wait for it to be released here 🙁

          1. I purchased on Amazon and it worked in our DVD player – some of the newer DVD players are international and not zone 4 apparently

    1. I bought the American DVD online (region 2 I think) and it works fine in my DVD player. Most players are regionless these days. If yours is locked you can just take it to wherever you bought it and they can unlock it or give you the unlock code.

  8. I want to make it clear that I’m not saying the MMR vaccine does cause autism. Yes, there appears to be a very compelling case, but I am no doctor or scientist (doctors aren’t scientists, and scientists aren’t doctors either). However, both doctors (who personally see these patients) and scientists (who crunch data and numbers) are concerned about fraud at the CDC.

So let’s find out and subpoena William Thompson so we can put this thing to bed once and for all.

You can argue for or against until you’re blue in the face, but either way, it makes sense to support the subpoena, so EVERYONE gets answers.

Instead there’s so much flogging going on, when we should support the very simple solution (which is not being acted upon), rather than attack those with an opinion. Because that’s all we can go on until then. I’m sure if it was on any other topic than vacines, there would be such an uproar, yelling for justice.

Jay Gordon, MD (Renowned pediatrician and Assistant Professor of Pediatrics, UCLA Medical School) said:

“It took fifty years before the courts finally acknowledged that cigarette smoking causes cancer.

Let me state very simply, vaccines can cause autism.

No real scientist would encourage us to stop studying this possibility.

The proof is not there yet. It will be found. Let’s hope it doesn’t take another fifty years and hundreds of court cases to convince the government and the public. Private industry is once again duping the FDA, doctors and the public. The conflicts of interest are obscene and illegal.” (Source)

    1. Kelly – I suspect your provided the review in good faith, but perhaps you were unaware of many other background issues, as reported here (by someone who also saw the film, and also has an excellent understanding of scientific method):
      https://www.sciencebasedmedicine.org/andrew-wakefields-vaxxed-antivaccine-propaganda-at-its-most-pernicious/

You say “Let me state very simply, vaccines can cause autism.” Your assertion carries no more weight than saying “water can cause autism” or “breathing can cause autism” – there is no evidence for either of these either. If you are going to say “You’ll never prove to me that it can’t”, then you don’t understand that it’s impossible to “prove” a negative.

On the other hand, Wakefield’s malpractice displaced a huge amount of funding and resources into investigating his purported link. It was found to be incorrect. There IS no evidence that vaccinated children are more likely to have autism than unvaccinated. The only health difference found is that the unvaccinated are more likely to have vaccine-preventable infections.

If you want to understand the problem with Wakefield’s work, this is worth reading:
      http://briandeer.com/solved/slapp-amended-declaration.pdf

      1. That was actually the pediatrician, Dr Jay Gordon, who said “Let me state very simply, vaccines can cause autism.”

At the end of the day, there are medical and scientific professionals on both sides of the fence.

The ONE thing that will fix all this once and for all is for Dr William Thompson to be subpoenaed. Opinion means nothing – truth means everything. And Congress are the key here. They MUST subpoena him so we can hear what REALLY happened. Don’t we all want the truth, not other people’s opinions?

  9. This review shows exactly how dangerous this film is. They con the unintelligent or unsuspecting to believe there is a problem where there isn’t one. The MMR is safe and effective at preventing diseases that kill and harm people. Creating distrust in the vaccine based on propaganda is irresponsible.

    1. Thanks for sharing your opinion, Josie.

To me, this is exactly the reason why those who are passionate about vaccination should be pushing for William Thompson to be subpoenaed. If there’s nothing to show for it, then we have our answer. Game over.

        1. I don’t think we do until Thompson is subpoenaed. He has made confessions and has a whistleblower lawyer. Why doesn’t anyone want to hear them in a court of law? Anyone passionate about truth will support the subpoena.

    2. Josie – please explain why the film is dangerous. “They con the unintelligent or unsuspecting to believe there is a problem where there isn’t one.” This purely indicates that you haven’t seen the film and are making judgement upon something that you know nothing about. And as far as creating distrust – everything that we put into out bodies (particularly infants) should be viewed with some form of distrust unless proven to be safe. Vaccines have NEVER been proven to be safe nor do they give immunity.

  10. In Australia the general public are regarded by our politicians as being SHEEP or MUSHROOMS to be herded or kept in the dark , and if any unwanted information gets leaked , all hell breaks loose , and it has to be STOPPED at all cost . When will the Australian Public WAKE UP , so vital information can be aired in public .

  11. Sorry Kelly – I meant to comment before I sent you those last two links. They both back up what you are saying – & i sent them mostly just to give you some more information. Post them up if you want to, or don’t. I don’t mind either way. I just love the way the second argument is constructed & it’s so relevant to the broader conversation – and to understanding why Dr Wakefield is viewed as such a threat. Happy Reading, and Thank You for your review.

  12. Great review. Vaccine injury is REAL and it’s time people started listening to the stories of those who are injured by vaccines, and their families. Most vaccine injuries are denied by the medical profession and there is NO mandatory reporting of vaccine injury, only passive surveillance. Under-reporting of vaccine injury is acknowledged by the very government bodies who are responsible for recording the data. In Australia that’s the DAEN (Database of Adverse Event Notifications) who say only 1-10% of adverse events are actually even reported! My vaccine injury was NOT reported by the medical staff at the hospital I attended, even though I was told it would be. I have heard the same story from almost all the vaccine injured people I know. So do the maths.

  13. Thank you for a refreshingly honest review from someone that has actually seen the movie!

I too found it exactly as you stated.

This forced censorship is quite frightening and should not be encouraged

  14. Excellent review, I thought you covered Andrew Wakefield’s position admirably.
I also commend your anaylsis of the “Cover up”.
From the parent of a damaged child, I thank you.
From the author of one of the few Australian books (2000) on Autism
    – and the Vaccine Connection, I applaud you.
    Bette Sartore
Diagnosis Autism -Where to go from here.

  15. Thank you for an honest review of the film. There are FEW.
As a parent of vaccine injuried child, it has encouraged me to search for answers. Are vaccines as “safe and effective” as they claim? In the enlightenment of the corruption of the CDC, the very agency who is to research the safety of vaccines, they are found to be fraudulent.
I have contacted several of my congressmen and representatives about the CDC corruption. I’m just not seeing a whirlwind reaction. But perhaps this awakening is likened to a tsunami. Quiet…. before the storm.

  16. “Unless we put medical freedom into the Constitution, the time will come when medicine will organize into an undercover dictatorship to restrict the art of healing to one class of Men and deny equal privileges to others; the Constitution of the Republic should make a Special privilege for medical freedoms as well as religious freedom.”
    Benjamin Rush (USA founding father)

  17. I have seen this film and agree wholeheartedly with your review, it does not state that you should t vaccinate. It simply asks that vaccines be more thoroughly tested by independent sources… Surely that can’t be a bad thing?!

  18. Well written! Ordered my copy. Information sharing is important and I look forward to hearing these stories and reports. Thank you.

  19. Wow, what an accurate review of this movie. I totally agree with every word. I would like to mention that, while travelling from state to state, the VAXXED team encountered so many more stories of death and damage from all of the other vaccines, they were amazed. You have to be the judge for yourself and your children. It would be best to get the inserts that come in the box with the vial and read the ingredients and side effects for yourself. If I would have, I would not have to visit a grave to take flowers to my daughter. She died after vaccines in 1980, at 54 days old. It is and was a listed side effect from the DTP vaccine. I never knew that before I agreed to vacvines for her. Big decision….do your research. Vaccines have not been studied for safety…

  20. The bottom line, people should be educated, told about the possible risks, not lie about it but most importantly should be their choice and not the government’s!

  21. Thanks for a great review. We have to question why there is so much scare tactic and rebellion around this film being released. Censorship by corporations who are worried about their bottom line? Makes me think. Watch the film, do your research. The information in this film may not change your mind, but if it opens your eyes, job done.

  22. If this kind of fraud was in another industry or product I imagine it would be handled differently.
I really want to see this movie, there are so many people that say the same thing.. Their child changed overnight (a very close friend included) from receiving a vaccine. Surely thousands of parents can’t all be wrong and a handful of scientists right…and not even investigate. This doesn’t make sense to me.

  23. Thank you for being brave enough to write this honest and transparent review. So many of us Mum’s who question this sort of thing are NOT crazy anti-vaxxers. We are good parents who actually ask questions, may of which our GP’s admit they don’t even know the answers to! Please .. before you criticise or freak out about a parent who may not follow the same medical advice that you do, ask why with an open mind. We aren’t trying to put your children, or ours at risk. Why would we? Just remember not everything you read in main stream media is in your best interest! Please see the movie and start asking questions 🙂

  24. Thank you for this unbiased review. I have also seen the film and realise it is vital that we summon and subpoena William Thompson. This isn’t about stopping vaccinations, its about making them better. The one shoe fits all model is not suffice. Further it is our right to hear the story and that the CDC are made accountable for there misconduct.
The movie also points out the following facts:
    1. It is not necessary to prove the effectiveness of a vaccine to get market approval
    2. Safety studies for vaccines mostly do not include testing against a group placebo group
    3. Vaccine manufacturers are exempt from liability in most countries
    4. The testing of vaccines is funded by the pharmaceutical companies. There are no independent research that is used to access the safety and efficiency.

To make vaccines better we need to address these facts.

  25. I live in the YSA. I have seen VAXXED three times. I cried every time! These are REAL families! They are real families! Want to hear thousands of other parents tell the same story????? #hearthiswell

How can ALL these parents be wrong about what they have seen and experienced in their OWN babies?! Take your head out of the sand—and look around. Vaccine injury is real. In the USA 3.5 BILLION has been paid in damages. Do a search for vaccine injurt lawyers. It takes a second. You’ll see hundreds of attorneys.

  26. Very good review. And the best part? I cannot tell from this whether or not you vaccinate your own children. Which to me shows you are not pushing an agenda. Simply better health. And whether your idea of that is no vaccines, or safer vaccines is really of no consequence. This leaves us, the reader, to make that choice for ourselves.
As your rightly point out (yes, I have seen it) 5)3 documentary never calls for vaccines to abolished. It never calls for them to be discouraged even. It simply presents the facts about what Halle ed at the CDC, and asks why this isn’t being investigated, and why nothing is being done to make sure we are all kept safe from anyone unscrupulous who cares more about money than people. EVERY industry has its good guys and it’s bad guys. Surely, especially with things we inject straight into our bodies, a careful examination of the entire process, especially the safety and efficacy studies, should be of the upmost importance.
To tell the truth, the propaganda surrounding this film scares me, and makes me less likely to ever vaccinate again. Because the censorship of this evidence, the not subpoenaing Dr Thompson, I have no faith that they care about our health at all.

    1. Thank you for your support, Kiwiaussie. x

My eldest (of three) is 14, so it was a long time ago. I didn’t think to do any research, and not as many people were talking about it online. I thought it was just what you did, like everyone else.

People keep sharing the same couple of ‘science’ blogs on this topic. But unless they were in the room and have facts, not regurgitated media diahorrea, then I really don’t want to know. I want facts from those who were involved. I want to see the subpoena happen. Doesn’t that make it evidence-based? Isn’t that the best scientific approach, rather than lies a journalist brewed up?

I’m not saying anyone is wrong or right, I want to hear the facts from those involved, not an opinion, before I make a decision. Rip off the bandaid. Subpoena time.

      1. Kelly – you say “I really don’t want to know” – but the critiques of the film we have posted will help you understand the errors in the film.

If you refuse to do so, you cannot have an unbiased view of the material presented in this film.

You have a right to your own views and attitudes, but please don’t claim to be unbiased if you refuse to read more widely about this.

        1. Thank you for interacting in a respectful way.

I actually read one yesterday morning while I had some time and skimmed over another. There seems to be two main articles people on the pro-vaccine side of the fence keep referring me to.

With respect – I am simply honestly expressing how I feel here – I became so incredibly bored with [what felt like] at least half of that lengthy review dedicated to bagging out the characters (and those who question vaccines). Like most of the pro-vaccine posts (and often comments, tweets, etc), it was just not presented it in an appealing, conscious way.

The way things are communicated is the one very thing resulting in the huge gap between belief systems. I know it works both ways – I cringe at arguments from both sides. The only reason I persisted reading the blog post was because I felt I had to, rather than feeling my interest was piqued by the points he was making.

And I am not sure if it was the same one, but one of them boasted about not even having to pay to see it. I am assuming here, that it meant this person saw it illegally. What does that say about integrity? Gosh I pay for everything, even songs I want on iTunes, because I value the time, effort, sweat and tears it took to make that happen, so easily for me to see/isten to.

It is also frustrating to see “anti-vaxxers” and “anti-vaccine documentary” being painted all over these posts, when many of us just want reassurances that we can trust these governing bodies and organisations to do the right thing, and I think 100% of us want safe vaccines for those who choose to vaccinate. Not many people truly want to stop anyone vaccinating, if they want that. Perhaps it’s because those who communicate badly about vaccines end up attacking each other and no intelligent conversation comes from it from anyone. So both sides have this impression of each other when it’s just the people from both sides who choose to communicate and engage in that way.

These people also rarely show their face and hide behind their words. Why? If you truly believed in what you stood for, why aren’t these people proud of it? Or are they ashamed at how they behave, or like the freedom to behave in a way that wouldn’t be acceptible face to face? Perhaps it would their careers at risk for behaving that way too.

And yes, I am open minded. If someone showed me credible facts based on research that was unbiased and used respectful language, I would read it. I have no problem reading things that aren’t in alignment with my own knowledge and beliefs. If I am unsure about something, I often bounce my questions, thoughts and ideas off friends and contacts who are university trained medical doctors and other medically qualified people for guidance. Even those who have done years of research.

Pro-vaccine posts tend to be rude, obnoxious, insulting and spend a great deal of time bagging people out. If they were to present it in a way that said:

“In the introduction of the documentary, X scientist said X. However we know this is not true, because [link to an external, reputable website with evidence not opinion and more insults].”

That’s what appeals to me. This is what wins me over – I had no time or energy for rudeness or insults of any kind (I have three kids, that’s more than enough haha), so I choose not to keep reading if that’s what I see. And to me, that is a perfectly acceptable choice to make. It loses so much credibility when it resorts to mud-slinging – surely the author’s facts speak for themselves? Or maybe not. Where there is no heart, there is no understanding.

So I find it hard to take things seriously when they are presented in a way which the writer is clearly getting something out of it emotionally (ego, bullying, superiority etc), at the cost of others. It’s very unattractive.

Trust is long gone as far as research and pharmaceuticals go. The four things they are asking for, I think are very reasonable. I’d like to hear from William Thompson.

Do you think the pharmaceutical industry should be able to be sued for damages caused by vaccines? Because we do know that it happens. Even if you take the autism equation out of it, it does happen.

Ps. My audience is heavily from the US too, so as you know there are differences between AU and the US. I try my best to write for both audiences.

          1. Thanks for your response, Kelly.

I understand that you didn’t like the style of the documents I referred you to, but did you have the chance to absorb the content? If you had, you might understand why experienced clinicians like me refer to them. I have spent decades of my life in public hospital health care – why would I mean harm to children?

I think providers of any service of product should be held to account for negligence, but not for unavoidable risk. For that reason, every country should have a no-fault compensation scheme, so that struggling families can receive support without having to prove negligence, and without being financially destroyed if their case holds no weight. Do you agree?

          2. So by that do you mean vaccine injury being the unavoidable risk? And there should be a tax payer funded compensation program for those people, like in the US?

          3. Kelly – what do you mean by “vaccine injury”?

Is there any health care therapy that is 100% risk free? Or, for that matter, any area of life that is guaranteed to be 100% risk-free?

          4. The flu shot and HPV vaccines have substantial evidence of vaccine injury. Those injuries actually end up in the media. We know for a fact, expired vaccines have been given, wrong vaccines given, adult vaccines given to children, resulting in substantial injury and death. To name a few.

            The dictionary says:

            injury
            [in-juh-ree]

            1. harm or damage that is done or sustained: to escape without injury.

So to me, that’s not a temporary fever etc. That’s ongoing problems as a result of a procedure. Where there is risk, there should be the right to choose, which the US are fast running out of. And I think it’s wrong to exclude children from kinder too (and school if it gets to that – I know there’s talk of it in the industry). A couple of percent of children are not the issue here. Even that’s been in the media, source of infection has been vaccinated MCHNs etc.

You treat people, right? What is your definition of injury?

          5. HI, Kelly

I don’t use the term “injury” for non-traumatic conditions. As a clinician, I make diagnoses for a huge range of conditions.

I am very familiar with the data on HPV vaccination, for which vaccine reactions – beyond local redness and feeling faint – are vanishingly rare. Here is the Australian data:
Human papillomavirus vaccine safety in Australia: experience to date and issues for surveillance
            http://www.publish.csiro.au/sh/SH09153

Millions of people have been vaccinated, with no deaths and very few serious events, which may not have been directly caused by the vaccine.

The influenza vaccine is not always effective, because the viral antigens are seasonally changing, but significant reactions are also rare.

On what basis are you saying there is “substantial evidence”? Could you show your references, please.

As both author and moderator, it is important that you present acccurate evidence to your readers.

I would also appreciate the site allowing my other outstanding comments to pass moderation.

          6. I don’t have time for a lengthy discussion on this topic, I have limited time in my day where my youngest has childcare and I have many facets of the business to manage. I also have 2700 comments pending in the queue and I picked one of yours to respond to.

I’m sure you’d be aware that there has now been a complaint made to the European ombudsman about the HPV vaccine after previous complaints from Cochrane and others to the EMA were not successful.

As always, I say, let’s find out.

I also know your position on vaccination, how involved you are on discussions around the web where people question vaccinations, and I know your opinion will not change. So this could go on forever… we will have to agree to disagree for now.

  27. Really great review and analysis; thanks for putting in the effort. Two observations, perhaps biased by current global events:

    1. Science is the ‘new religion.’ So many people who reject arguments questioning (not rejecting) the science of vaccinations seem to live without any intention. They seem to take everything on faith, as if science is the ‘new religion’ we’re supposed to adhere to. Your bellybelly website helped me greatly when my wife and I were expecting our baby boy. Your articles didn’t demand we think and believe in a certain way; instead, they taught us how to question everything around my wife and child’s medical care. You helped teach us to make decisions with full intention. We became smarter consumers of medical care, making decisions for ourselves based on information in your site and many others. We continue to do so to this day.

    2. Change is terrifying. Words like ‘anti vaxxers,’ ‘idiots,’ ‘uninformed,’ ‘criminal,’ etc. are thrown at living, thinking, sentient human beings to de-humanise them, attempting to make their thoughts and beliefs appear to have no value. If their views hold no value, then we don’t have to adapt and change our views. Your analysis of Vaxxed forces us to rethink some of the core beliefs in we think keeps us healthy and alive. There is a dark, dark place inside every aware parent who considers the risks v. rewards of vaccination, the risk of unintentionally harming their child, the risk of their child acquiring a crippling illness. The place is where their deepest fear lies, and to acknowledge that place but still adapt and change despite the pressure to conform, to accept without question, to have faith that your doctors, your friends and your family are all right takes remarkable courage.

I argue that the kind of courage shown by the people who made Vaxxed, by bellybelly for discussing it and our ability to adapt and change is the very essence of our success as living things. bellybelly and Vaxxed are heralds of change, not specific guidelines. They aren’t the enemy. Fear is. Being unaware, resisting change, living without intention is the bigger threat to our survival.

    1. Thank you Brian x The science is never settled, we’re learning all the time. All I hope for is for others to keep their minds open as we evolve and learn. I have no doubt there are plenty of lessons to come from science (about all sorts of things), which will be shocking and hard to hear.

BellyBelly has never been here to change people’s minds, but instead, to encourage people to think, question and research for themselves. All of us have an opinion, but that can certainly change and become more complex once we start looking into things a bit more seriously.

  28. Where can I read about why we have lee freedom of speech / to view movies like this in Australia than USA.

    thanks.
