Egg free custard
Hello!
Does anyone have a yummy egg free custard recipe? DD has a whole egg allergy ... she absolutely loves the little Ambrosia (egg free) custard cups but I want to make something without additives etc.
Thanks!

I don't have an egg free recipe but Heinz make an organic baby custard powder.

Could you make it using some cornflour, milk and vanilla bean paste? You could add a little sugar too if you wanted to.

Actually yes I just made some this afternoon after looking at a pack of custard powder and seeing it only contains cornflower, vanilla flavour, sugar and yellow colouring. I used vanilla extract. It was ok, tastes a bit floury so maybe I needed more vanilla or sugar.

May have needed to cook a bit longer? I'm going to try this myself.

Maybe actually. I did a smallish batch and the quantities were 1 and a half tablespoons cornflour, a cup of milk, a small teaspoon of sugar and a dash of vanilla extract. I also forgot to sieve the flower so it was a tad lumpy even with constant stirring.

Did you gradually add the milk? If you put the flour in first and then just a small amount of milk to make it like a paste and then keep slowly adding the milk until its all in, mixing constantly then that should fix the lumps.
