Lactose intolerance - hit me with your foods/recipes

It seems I've developed an intolerance since having my gall bladder out. So am going to do my best at going lactose free.

I think I hit the jackpot today with lactose free ice cream to soothe my painful throat. I also found lactose free marg/butter?
I've also got some lactose free milk.

What do I need to watch out for on packets? What food should I avoid?

Does anyone have some yummy recipes for me to try??

    Tia

Replace recipes with cocunut milk instead of milk such as mango puddings or make your own icecream with pureed fruit and coconut milk.

We're cowmilkfree, not lactosefree, but similar issues.

Allergen: milk is a key one! But it can be disguised as butter or other dairy products in ingredients. All but the darkest chocolate, or rice milk chocolate, is out too.

I made a vegan cheese sauce the other day, using olive oil instead of butter and soy milk and soy cream cheese. Olive oil for butter is always a good substitute, health-wise.

Lactose is in a lot of things including medicine! It's a natural sugar so is everywhere I agree with cooking your own cakes, slices, puddings etc so you know what you are getting. Chia pudding is nice with coconut milk or lactose free milk.

I tend to do allot of my own cooking anyway so I will know what's in those things.... How do people go if they are out somewhere??? I would generally do a salad of sorts but sometimes we do Thai food for a work meeting etc. I usually have a stir fry....

Salads would be ok it would be dressings that could catch you out so ask for it on the side.Thai should be fine as they generally use coconut milk. Look at the packets, avoid things with milk solids in them.
