Hi Lulu - playdate meltdowns have happened during the playdate but mostly after it. DS is pretty good at keeping it together until he's alone with us and then the wheels fall off. Basically there could be crying, screaming, frantic running and smashing into things, sometimes he would just run away and hide in his room.
What your describing sounds like what happens to DS if we turn up unexpectedly or he isn't ready to leave yet
We have only done a few play dates at other peoples houses and we have always stayed and as soon as I see him getting uptight we give him the warning that we are leaving - 10 min, 5, 2, 1 and go. We have also found when I leave him at OT sometimes we do the clock thing - when the big hand is here and here I will be back and we will go home. That helps a lot.
As for his good behaviour at Kindy - DS is brilliant at school, most times. He thrives on the routine of school and is a sponge when it comes to factual information. All of his teachers love his enthusiasm in class discussions.
He too talks incessently. if he is awake then he is talking. He talks over the top of most people and basically turns most conversations around to what he is interested in (pokemon/digemon/Ben 10 etc) The talking drives me nuts some days - the only time he stops is when he plays DS or playstation.
Behaviour wise - we have struggled with this in the past. Consequences have had no impact except we did find that if we threatened to throw his toys in the bin he would react but would usually end in a very long meltdown but at least he would realise it was the wrong thing to do. Now we try and focus on what is driving the behaviour; is it sensory seeking, frustration, inability to communicate, disruption to routine, overstimulated and we deal with that. Now we rarely have a behaviour problem that doesn't come from an underlying issue which has been a huge jump for us from this unbelievably uncontrollable child to a brilliant child who has difficulty processing information from his surroundings and communicating his needs.
we use wheat bags for weight and he also has a body sock ( a big lycra bag) which he uses when he is feeling frustrated. Before this we used his doona and he used to crawl around in his doona after a meltdown cause he didn't want anyone to see him.
My DH has an uncanny ability to set DS off - basically he isn't as careful about the routines, rituals and DS also went through a period where everytime DH spoke to him he would scream at him cause he didn't like his voice.
Not sure if this is making any sense?

HI dee :hello: welcome to the padded cell
havinga bad week...BUT because of it we have planned a new 'program' after school now. This program now consists of
NO DS at all school nights
NO lap top meaning no you tube (will get to this)
Wilhelm will now do homework, then its all hands on deck making tea together and then signing to the stereo for a release.
Worked unreal last night.
There will be no more you tube in my house. Wilhelm told me yesterday he wanted to commit suicide :o and when I asked him what it was he said he would get a knife and stab himself in the tummy until he couldnt feel anymore. How the hell am I ment to feel when he says that FFS he's 7! I aske dhim were he got it from and he said you tube....so no more..its banned!!!!! He also told me in the car that he wanted to kill *childs name* the same way cause he hit him. I tried to tell his teacher but she is to young to understand that I have to keep school and home in sink with each other and she kept going on about how she didnt like the way he discrespects her!! OK so I'll do nothing and wait for him to stab her with a pen of something :rolleye: maybe she'll understand my concern then.
SO maz had a big flip out last night in the school car park and now have a migraine......the joys!!!
SOme one pass me a scotch please and a ciggy to
-
i have had 2 weeks of good behaviour but i know the dark days are coming
i get so frustrated with him as i try to guess what he wants and he gets frustrated cause i cant guess it
he makes noises not words so its pick the noise for what he wants
we are having a delimer at bathtime he thinks all water is going to burn him ( hes never been scolded or burnt by water ever) so i have to put up with his blood curlding screams even tho the water is almost freezing
hes been having great sessions with his speach path i could kiss that woman shes made so manny break throughs she got him to make 20 seconds of eyecontact hehehe i was so proud
same as here my dp has a 5 year old and shes told that anything that isnt g rated dosent come in this house pg is banned as violence makes murray violent and it sets us back weeks
he has a tight routine that cant be messed up either i try to install small change when i can but i know when i do i need to prepare for the bad days to follow

Dee my darling daughter chews everything to bits... all drink bottles, all pencils, textas... all of the ends are chewed to bits. She looks like she's had a fancy haircut, but its because she's eaten the ends of her hair off.... she's bitten her fingernails down to the quicks... and they bleed. Its part of the sensory stuff. I got a finger brush from work (to brush dogs & cats teeth with, its like a thimble that sits on the end of your finger) and I rub it on the insides of her cheeks to help get some of that out. Hasn't worked so far  but I keep trying.
-
yeah im hoping ill find somthing to stop it sippy cups arnt cheap
lol driving calms me atm turn the music up and drive then i cant hear him screaming at me and sometimes i get lucky and he will sleep
-
Gosh I forgot about the chewing.......yes we chewed.....it wasnt plastic though..it was metal...anything metal went into his mouth and crunch.
 about the music Dee.....gotta love a good stereo
-
yeah we have a prado big four wheel drive so the fact that he sits behind the passengers seat means i can blast the music and i cant hear him and still beable to hear the engine lol
yes hes also chewed through 2 of my debit cards and tried to eat all the zips off his jumpers forgot to mention that as well lol
-
Maz - super big :grouphug: and I think we should all get stoned together - wouldn't that be an awesome party :-)
Chewing - we have some chewy tubes and also chewlery (like the plastic stretchy keychains you used to be able to get) necklaces and braclets as Xander chews... on people. Mainly himself and his sister but also started licking kids at school. But of course his stupid f head of a teacher doesn't see this and doesn't want him to wear it at school. But that is a whole other vent. I can usually sneak it in under his uniform as she is pretty unobservant:rolleyes:
Welcome Dee - how old is your DS? Hope your referal turns up soon.
-
he will be 3 in october
