Hi all, have been MIA for a while as we settled into life in Brissie and me working full-time. Phew loving my job but really hating the logistics of two full time working parents.

Hi to the new faces here - your kidlets remind me so much of Xanny with the bike and the dressing issues. Xander actually asked today if we could get him a bike.. I'm still wary after the countless injuries we had last time we tried a bike as he doesn't know how to stop himself from falling. We tried rollerskating the other day and he loved it - not brilliant but he really loves doing it and seems much calmer - not sure if it is the deep pressure from falling on his butt or the rolling :-) He loves rolling (cars, buses etc)
Well we have managed to backtrack to 12mths ago by missing 4 mths of OT - bugger. Life is not fun but don't have the eneergy to go into it.
It's just great to touch base with you wonderful parents. Thanks so much.

Hi ladies I have a question
Has anyone had to deal with a death in the family ?
My Dh's nanna passed away this weekend and the kids seem to be struggling .
She was a 100 yrs old and Hamish seems to be focusing on 100. If anything is brought up about it he mentions 100 , is anyone else 100? etc etc.
But of more concern to me is that he has been very very quiet this weekend and seems to have withdrawn. We had family get together and a few people mentioned how quiet he was. He has been like this for 2 days ... Should i start to worry

M's Opa died just before she turned 4. She was... unaware that it was happening. She didn't understand us being sad about it at all? It was hard to get her to understand the grief we were feeling and going through. I suppose because she didn't see him... we saw him a few months before he died, but not when he was bed ridden. We talked about it a lot and in front of her and she just didn't seem worried about it at all.
On a better note.... better day today. Not as good as its been, but better.

D has been lucky enough to not have experienced the death of someone he sees regularly ITMS. His Grandpa (DH's dad) passed away almost 3 years ago, but he was in Turkey and D only got see him the two times he was overseas.
D came up to me out of the blue a few weeks ago crying about what he would do if i died or if anybody close to him died. I just told him that it was part of life and that we will all die one day and for him not to worry as we weren't going anywhere soon.
I'm sure it will be very hard on him when one somebody he sees regularly dies.
No advice, i'm sorry Tan.

Just jumping in quickly, I have a lot to process after a paed appointment today and will be back on after dinner for a better post. But anyway Brendan has been referred on for an Autism Spectrum Assessment, the paed is particularly interested in looking further into PDD. I'm pleased and sad, at least I know it's not in my head!

Hey chicks.
We are halfway through our Autism Assessment. It's taken awhile, the poor fella just can't focus on the task. School is getting a bit much and he is going back to 1/2 days :(
He tried to kick the psych and abused the crap out of her last week, ran off and out of the office and into the carpark. 3 times.
He told me tonight I'm going to have to" bribe the heck out of him" to get him back there. I really should stop muttering under my breath....
3 weeks ago he seems alright. Now he is going all autism-y
BLAH and POO to everything.

:hugs: all around. Things are full on here as well. DH hurt his back on Sat, a "deranged" disc, where its not totally slipped out but his vertebrae in his lower spine has twisted and is pushing on a nerve. He was on his back for the weekend, and well its Tuesday night and he's still lying on the floor. Its been hard work. I'm tired and Matilda is struggling with having so much going on here. I couldn't work last night as I couldn't leave the girls with DH.
I'm so over everyone's demands atm... I have to help DH go to the toilet, get dressed and have a shower, get up and down... then M starts screaming because I haven't rushed up to get her some water, JJ is just copying everyone elses behaviour. DH keeps apologising (like he can help it! he did it hanging out the washing :rolleyes:). I need a holiday.... and July won't come soon enough!!!

Hope you remember me - I used to be Rayla.
Just thought I'd do a quick update on Layla's autism. She started at special school just over 2 years ago, and with a lot of hard work and an absolutely fantastic teacher is now in a learning support unit within a mainstream school. Before she left the special needs school last year, she was given the student of the year award. We're so proud of her. Most autistic behaviours have gone, but she still has speech problems.
I hope M is doing okay. Would love to hear about how things are with you.

Ok. He's autistic. Higher on the scale than I would have thought before his recent behaviours.

Oh Lu, and to do all this alone. Hugs babes.
We watched a movie called "Adam" on the weekend. It was about a young man with Asperger's and his journey through a small period within his life. His father had passed away and he was left all alone. He befriends a new neighbour (a female), and she guides him through some tough times during that period. It was funny and sad. It was funny as to some of the things he would say, yet sad, knowing that many of our kids (and mine) will have to go through some degreeness of what he did.
It gave me an insight, as to what my boy might be like as an adult.
Highly recommended movie, just to give us an insight into the future.

Just coming in to have a HUGE whine about the fact its WAAAYYYY easier to get support for spectrum kids if they are in a government school. Mitch isn't so apparently its TOO FRICKEN BAD FOR HIM.

:hug: Lu I hear ya. We chose to not worry about an aide or anythign because it wasn't necessary at that time. I suppose with M if she needs more assistence in time, we will have to reevaluate. They have altered somethings for her, but I guess our school is so small , its not as noticable?
