hi, ive managed to do three meals aday for the last week but ive not been that busy recently...but im running out of ideas for interesting things for her, might have to get cooking.
she had scrambled egg yolk with a little grated cheese for lunch amoungst other things, 1/4 baked apple, yog and pear,chicken/broccoli paste stuff thatt DH made on toast.
for dinner we had more of the same minus the egg. i still have heaps of purees that i made in the freezer so we had sweet potato and cream cheese on toast(bit wierd but it went down lol)! She ate nearly all! we were out at a friends house so i was helping her eat it abit more than normal as we couldnt have the same level of mess that we do at home! and i thought i hadnt bought enough! she is really getting into her food which is great to see and its fun to see her getting the hang of picking things up and enjoying them!
Has anyone offered Tofu to their babies?does anyone make recepies or do you just offer straight veg...DD isnt much of a plain veg fan, although i keep trying, she might just be getting used to it slowly!
Hi to all!!
We tried some more today. Banana, broccoli, red capsicum, pak choy and baby corn. Emily did really well, she was good with the corn and broccoli didn't like the capsicum at all. And was good with the banana. I'll put some pics up.
With yoghurt what brands are ppl giving? I bought some jalna today it seems to not have any sugar in it.
Just back to the whole issue of allergies/intolerances... one reason I'm not sure whether we should be factoring it in or not is because both DH and I didn't develop the problems we have until we were in our 20's (possibly DH had earlier signs, but I definitely didn't).... so I don't know if giving him these items would set him up for issues in later life, or whether because we had adult onset, it really isn't something to worry about as a baby? I guess it's a partic issue on my side, as my malabsorption cuts out a lot of fruit (inc apples & pears) as well as wheat and some veggies... so it would have a significant impact on what we'd start him on. And DH can't do dairy... but neither of us had any insight that these were our problem foods, i.e. we ate the various offenders (and got very sick) for a long time before we found out/diagnosed etc. So I'm not confident that my child would avoid them even if they were not agreeing with him.
I'm probably going to do some further research, but very interested to hear your thoughts, sorry hope this isn't too off track?
Sammiejane - I think you're definitely right with the slowly introduce. I figure if we start with one food a week that's fine... by 5 weeks he'll have a more interesting plate!
And apart from all my blather, this is great reading! Hello posters & lurkers :hello:
hiya all
just thought i would join this thread...
Jack has been having farex since about 4mths (every 2nd day) and now is having mashed potato/pumpkin and arrowroot biccies..he is ALWAYS wanting whatever we are eating (reaching/grabbing squealing for things and making chewing/licking motions watching us)
he gets VERY frustrated when he drops things he is eating but is happy again when given the food back :D
beckeos - we give actual meals here (as in recipes) and have been for several months now.
MJ isnt that keen on plain veggies anymore either - but will eat them if thats all that is there as she has a huge appitite...
Tonight she had a hamburger (homemade) and some pumpkin, carrot and broccoli... i made a small amount of gravy and poured that over the top.
Belfie, thats a tough one... if you speak to your GP, unless they have done any reading on this, their advice will be start on a rice cereal with a non dairy milk and will probably poo poo this method... do you have specialists that you see re your and your DH's conditions/intolerances?
You could start on 'safe' foods, we started on veggies here, so i would sat start on the veggies that you are OK with and give a variety of these.
When you are ready to introduce something, do it one thing at a time and depending on how it is taken (and comes out) try again the following day. try not to give to potential allergens in the one day as a delayed reaction may mean that you assume it is the wrong one kwim?
As for dairy, MJ has soy milk, we use Bonsoy (more expensive but does not have added sugar like most commercial brands) Not because she is allergic (or any of us) to dairy but she prefers it... she has 'normal' cheese and yoghut thou. Dont know if this is of any help to you - good luck with the introduction of foods :)
Ok, I have a question. How does your LO differentiate between food and toys? I mean, no matter what I give Peter, he will look at it, then touch it, then put it in his mouth- could be a toy, could be food, could be the cat's tail.
Then its like when he discovers its food and it has a taste, unless its yogurt or arrowroot, he pulls the "why are you trying to poison me, mum?" face and shudders and spits it out. I do try to limit food to when he's in his highchair, but then often he gets bored in his highchair so we give him a toy as well.....how is he supposed to know a bit of broccoli isn't a new toy? Does it even matter if he can't tell the difference?
I just worry maybe he doesn't understand its food and he's supposed to eat it....
ARGH! NO HE WONT CHOKE ON IT! HE'S BEEN EATING BANANA FINE AND YES HE CAN HAPPILY SUCK ON THAT RICE CRACKER AND NO I WILL NOT BUY HIM FAREX OR THAT JUNK IN A JAR. WOULD YOU EAT IT? NO DIDN'T THINK SO!
ok sorry I had to get that out...
LOL missymoo!!!!
jack has just started eating banana..and i got the comment from my MIL...he'll choke!!!! ummmmm NOPE he won't was my reply!!!
oh apparently i am a bad parent for giving my son things he can choke on. Banana and toast are bad, broccoli is worse and OMG YOU GAVE HIM CARROT! Ahh yes I did ***** now get lost! All this while he was sitting there eating from his lunch box today, perfectly happy, not gagging once.
The only food he has choked on was the yogurt I was feeding him myself! That he spluttered and coughed over.
haha Missy Mel - I toook DD for her 6 month check up yesterday and they asked how she was going - I said good, good, she's on solids - they said, how is she going - and I said good.
I just don't offer up the information if they don't ask for it. And I'm too big and ugly for people to argue with me face to face ;)
lol
Jack has had toast... and sucked it to death...made a HUGE soggy mess...
loves his banana...we tried yoghurt today :D he loved it...
pumpkin/potato/carrot/zucchini for dinner :)
i sooo cant wait to start B on solids - she already now watches us eat and makes eating movements with her mouth - i think she is close to being ready - am i correct in saying that?
we gave her a rusk the other day cause anything and everything goes in her mouth these days and she is starting to teeth - she loved it - munched all the way thru it!!!! thank god i was sitting with her watching - gave me a bit of a fright to see the top of it missing!
HJ - there are a few signs that they are ready for solids - watching you might be one of them, but they might just be imitating you ya know? Does she still have the tounge pushing out thing going on? Can she sit up - supported?
yep she sits up - u can sit her up and she stays sitting up on her own for awhile also! has very good head and neck control - however she has slight tongue tie which is getting snipped next monday - which will help with the swallowing of food (i think).
i dont want to rush things tho - im happy to keep feeding her formula for longer - but if she is ready than she is ready right?
at the moment during the day she is feeding every 2.5hrs - which makes me think maybe the formula just isnt satisfying her - but than she is only drinking about 100-150mls at a time - so maybe she just likes more regular small feeds??????
Sounds like Miss M - she was still drinking bout every 2.5 hours until about 4.5 months - sometimes every 2 hours - just small feeds. She's better now - but I waited until she had stretched it out - and now she drinks more milk since being on solids (must help to wash it down..lol)
Totally up to you though babe, we can only advise you of the recommendations that we know of, but only you truly know if she is ready for solids.
I know Mel lol It was at playgroup though :( Geez my health nurse got put in her place haha Sometimes I think sharing and coping the crap is better then not because it makes more people aware that there is another way! I wouldn't have known about BLS unless another BB member wrote it in that thread, to which my reaction was... you guessed it "OMG NOT TOAST TO A 5 MONTH OLD! THEY WILL CHOKE!" then I ranted to my mum who was here with me at the time about how stupid and irrisponsible this person was lol they told me to look it up and I did, 2 months later look where I am ;)
