What do you think of this boys name?

I agree with Cherished. Hell, I was picked on at school because I had green eyes - WTF?!?!!? Kids are mean unfortunately, they were when I was at school, and they always will be.

Now if they really knew another meaning for MY name, then yes, I would have been teased alot more than I was.

I'm proud of the fact that my kids have different names cos they'll never be confused with anyone else. It will be like - oh hey, do you know aricyn? Instead of - hmm which one I know lots of aricyn's... it will be.. yeah man I know aricyn and what a cool little dude he is :p

I don't mind the name Mix - I think it goes really well with your surname!

That's what I thought too Mel, goes with the last name.

So the rest of us were answering her question, truthfully. Yes we do think he would be teased because of his unusual name - no need to suggest that we are of lower intelligence because we think so.

And lets be honest here and get off the "oh if you like it go for it" bandwagon, the whole "lets not offend someone with our truthfull views" - it is a silly name and it will get teased. Sorry for being harsh but I hate when people dont tell it as.:hide:

funny you mention not to hold back on the truth Ang as that's exactly what I did. It is 'your' view that you think it's a name to tease a child over. It is my view that your view is less than intelligent. In the spirit of 'not holding back the truth' that is what I believe the truth is. I knew I'd cop some flack but I stand by my comment, my intention was not to suggest that any member on this forum is not intelligent, my intention was to point out that if the topic is thought about logically than you would concluded that kids will get picked on for any reason if another child wants to pick on them. Names really don't have anything to do with it.

LOL I was picked on for my name. Always got called 'dog leash'. That's sort of why I was asking. But then, if it wasn't my name it was my hair or teeth so ... meh, maybe he'll be glad he is getting picked on for his name and not the fact that he has two very strange mums!

BTW, silly is in the eye of the beholder. I just asked if you would tease him, not if YOU would use the name.

There's a little girl where I work called mixy, she doesn't get picked on.

I wouldn't use it, but we like really traditional names. I don't think Mix is really too out there, I reckon it sounds very LA, I reckon there would be a few cool guys named Mix in the US. As a kid I could see the name being teased...but everyone gets teased for stupid things...my name is Lily and apparently I loved willy's :rofl:

I asked DF what he would say as a child if he met a kid called mix and e said he'd say, "Hey Mix, go make me a cake!" My DF is clearly mean :lol:

I like it, I don't love it, but like it. :) and no I wouldn't tease someone with the name Mix.

Unfortunately I think teasing is often more about picking on a weak link rather than a particular name... I know kids with very common names who are picked on and kids with unusual names who are not. The reverse is obviously also true.

I didn't like it when I started reading this thread, but I do now. Give me a month and I think I would probably love it as an unusual, but easy to spell and pronounce, name.

Whenever I introduce DS, 1/2 the time people say 'What? Oh, that's unusual!' (ie, the polite ones) and the other 1/2 say something that's not so polite. I think they're rude, but I don't think it's teasing.
I personally would NEVER tease anyone about their name under any circumstances (to their face :redface:). But then again, I wouldn't tease anyone about any aspect of themselves (I was teased for being skinny/smart/wearing glasses/having braces, you name it, growing up! Now those are all things I love about myself! lol). Maybe that's just me, but it doesn't make me feel good to belittle someone else. However, there will always be people out there who feel the need to have power over others, and teasing is one way they feel they can do that...
Kids will rhyme with his name or relate it to something else they know (as in the Jett scenario), but it's rarely meant to harm. At my school, the 'cool' kids got a nickname, usually related to their name in some way, so if your Mix got nicknamed the Mix-Master, I'd see it as a compliment rather than teasing. That's not to say he would see it that way. I've heard adults with unusual names change them or resent them because they were teased or stood out, but a lot of people change their name to something more unique as they get older. Who knows how kids will react?

I agree with the person who said they had been teaching and never heard kids tease about names. I have been teaching in a number of schools for a loooong time and have never heard kids being teased about their names> I have taught children with very unusual multicultural names and those with just plain unusual ones and to be honest kids don't give a toss at primary school (I can't say for HS).
I don't like the name personally but its not my baby so it doesn't matter!!

Mix is a SUPERCOOL name but then again, I like Minx for a girl :D
