A silly question...Is cornstarch the same as cornflour? I looked for it in the supermarket today, but could only find cornflour?
Also..Not sure if anyone has mentioned this and off the baby topic, but I'm now questioning the use of loose face powders over the top of makeup...Its just come to mind...I think I will be throwing that out too.
Is talc what's the baddie?

Yes talc is the baddie ingredient. A talc-free powder is fine. I use J&J's cornstarch baby powder. Cornstarch is the same as cornflour - cornstarch is the American term, but you can buy baby powder that is made of cornstarch/cornflour instead of talcum powder, you don't actually have to go and buy a packet of cornflour. It would be in the baby aisle of the supermarket.
I never thought of face makeup but yes a lot of makeup contains talc. I'm not inclined to chuck out my makeup though - it doesn't get anywhere near my cervix...(!) I realise I might be breathing in particles of talc but I don't wear makeup very much anyway.

ok this is really scary, ok so i dont use talc any more but i always used it for the smell more than anything, my cornstarch dont smell that pretty any suggestions for the pretty smell?
i used it at 50% of my babies nappy changes since she was born (7weeks ago) - I feel like the worst parent in the world..........

RE an earlier comment on talc being asbestos - I am pretty sure that talc is a form of chalk. Talcum POWDER may have once contained asbestos but talc itself is not the same as asbestos. Like Trish posted, similar but not the same

B456, oh my gosh I have "curash" powder too and I use that on my inner thighs (embarrassing i know) when I get heat rash on my thighs in summer (some of you know what i am talking about!!) and it relieves the pain. I have heard about baby talc powder but never thought about my curash powder being the same (silly i know!!) so i might stop using it! In fact, i will!!!
Pawpaw ointment cream (comes in red tube or red container) at the chemist is great!!!! it soothes, cleanses and relieves so might try that on myself when i get a heat rash... and for babies i have heard its good too....
My mum always used talc powder on herself when i was growing up, i remember... i wonder if she used it on us girls? hope not!!! I bet she did!!!!!!
how can they keep selling it if it is unsafe?
If it is unsafe to use on girls genitalia due to potential cancer risks would the same principle apply to boys too?
Great thread. I have only used talc on Amy once and that was last week and it will be the last time. I knew about toxicity when breathing it in but not about the ovarian risk. Thanks to everyone who has posted this information.
