Could it be this simple?! He was sound asleep when I went to bed last night... so sound that when I tried to dream-feed to keep it going a little longer he was just all slack-jawed and floppy and didn't feed. Woke at 4.15 for a feed and is now still sleeping at 8.10. Really? One wake-up? Just because of tummy-sleeping?!!! I'm afraid to get too excited - the disappointment is too much when a positive change goes backward again. But just quietly... for now... Woooooohooooooooooooooooo!!!!
PM - yeah, was considering QEC. I have their number on my bench and was going to call them in my spare seconds! But might just hold off for a bit and see what this tummy-lovin' boy can do!

Aren't there devices on the market that allow babies to sleep safely on their stomach - or maybe in my sleep deprived state, I'm dreaming it up.
DS hasn't slept on his own since he was 6mths old (now almost 3). He slept through the night for 3 days when he was four months old and hasn't ever gone straight through since, waking usually 3-4 times a night - usually between the hours of 1am and 5am. And the only way I coudl get him to sleep for 18mths was on the boob, because he wasn't sleeping any other way. I gradually got him into rolling over before he went to sleep and just recently he's going to sleep with his dad, but when he wakes up he wants me.
DS was only ever a one shot baby. I had one shot at putting him to sleep and if I screwed that up, then I'd have to wait hours until he was tired again. Plus he'd always wake at 3am and stay awake crying and carrying on for a few hours. No one could understand it, not even DH and he was living it.
At the sleep school I tried they wanted to make sure that DS was eating enough. My only other suggestions are to look at dietry issues.
Can you get your 2.5 year old into daycare? Or get someone to look after her during the day?
I read a pamplet in the osteopath's room about adjustments - about someone who had a baby (weeks old baby) who couldn't sleep and had to have an alignment done and then slept afterwards.

My DS was a tummy sleeper from about 3 weeks. On his back he would wake every 40 minutes day or night. On his belly he slept for a few hours at a time.
I was terrified but now am completely relaxed (he's 7 months). At 5 months your bub will soon get to the point that he will be able to roll over regardless of how you put him down.
I'm glad that his might be working for you and hope it continues.

i hope it is that simple!
fwiw, i was worried when my DS started rolling & would roll off his back while sleeping. at first we'd wake him up to put him back onto his back but i asked my MCHN & she suggested that if he was able to get to a position himself, then it was ok. she recommended putting him on his back to start with but not to stress if he moved :dunno:
hope today is a good one for you

I hope it is that simple for you! I understand the apprehension about the tummy sleeping. The first few times I allowed my DS to do it, I was in there checking on him all the time. I hope you got some sleep yourself last night so you can have a better day today.

Thanks all. Today was SO much rosier after a decent sleep! It's amazing how much you appreciate the simple things like a shower by yourself or 6 whole hours of sleep when you've been deprived!
Fx for tonight!

So pleased to hear!
Must have been a delightful day today with a well rested boy and a mum who is catching up!
Well done you and I will most certainly be crossing fingers for you. x

Yay, 6 hours is simply delightful, sending you (and DS) sleepy vibes for tonight x

So pleased to hear it. My friend had similar experience with her bub- now 7mths. He was miserable on his back- cried heaps- but slept on his tummy. My 5mth DD now rolls herself onto her tummy every time I put her on her back so I now sometimes put her down this way. Hope u have another solid sleep tonight! You deserve it :)

Hi lovey,I dont have any advice i just had relief when i read this,oh i just cant believe it i am currently going through exactly the same thing,i couldnt have written it better myself every night i promise myself i will try not to get like that with DD but i do,my DS is also 5 months and he also sleeps bad during the day and even worse at night some nights hes up every hour, ive been helpless and not knowing what to do i cant even work out the problem because DD was always and still is a good sleeper.Last night he was up not as much as usual but i put him down at half 7 he was awake at 8.20 then amazingly not till half 11!thats been thelongest in i dont know how long, its so hard isnt it,i feel the same my little guy is just gorgeous and i dont want to wish this time away either as hes our last but im just knackered, being up all night and then going all day is a killer,DD doesnt day sleep anymore either,i also have the same problem with DH he gets up early for work so hes the one who gets the sleep ins on weekends.sorry im just raving about me here i just wanted to say it helped me hearing im not alone and i dont know what to do either,if i could work out why DS isnt sleeping maybe, hes alot clinger than DD ever was maybe thats it,the other night i thought is there a sleep school i can go to even nothing makes sense with no sleep hey?Hugs to you i know where your at,glad you had some descent sleep and hope it keeps up!

Aww big hugs Hun. It sucks hey?! Hoping you get some decent sleep very very soon.
Well, tummy-sleeping has helped... to some extent. The previous nights since my last post were goodish with only two wake-ups. Last night was revolting, mainly because at 3am he decided it was party time and nothing I did would get him back to sleep. Then just as I finally got him down at 4.30, DD woke SCREAMING... wait for it... because her toes were sticking out the end of her sheets. Grrrrr. DH woke me up again at 5.30 as he left for work, DD had cold toes again at 6ish and then both were up for the day at 7.
Sorry.... know you all don't need a blow-by-blow run-down, but I've gotta debrief and DH is sick of hearing it!
Also no difference on the naps, regardless of position. Speaking of which, he's awake again after exactly 30 mins. There goes my down-time!

 You have to laugh at stuff like that though!
When DS stays out at my parents' place he sleeps in a queen-size bed. a few times now he's woken them screaming in the night because he "got lost" and couldn't find his pillows. poor love.
