I was considered "cruel" for not giving DS chocolate at his first easter: he is a Feb bub! I am Feb too and was given chocolate for my first easter.
My son is 3 and has never had an easter egg. In my defense, I can't find dairy free chocolate eggs! He'll just have chicken eggs, which he adores, instead.
Kinder eggs taste HORRID. Maybe that's why it's for little ones: so they don't bug you for more of it all the time LMAO.
I don't have any kids yet but thought I'd throw in my 2 bobs worth anyway ;) I can't imagine children would even no what Easter is or that they are missing out on chocolate until they are at least 2, so why give them all that extra sugar, you as parents are the ones who will have to deal with a difficult child on a sugar high if you start feeding them chocolate and lollies iykwim. That doesn't mean to say 'never' give them chocolate but it does mean why go out of your way to feed it to them when they wouldn't have a clue what easter is anyway.
Last year DD got toys & books, no chocolate, she was 8 or 9 months old.
This year she had an egg at playgroup & she will get one from us & thats about it, if she gets given any they will go the same place as all the ones she got given last year. In the panytry for dad to eat
I'm even 'meaner' - DS still hasn't had chocolate (or lollies, or soft-drink, or fruit juice even) and won't be this Easter. The kid's hyper enough as it is without it LOL, and eats fruit until the fruit bats come home so he gets enough sugar as it is.:
But he has shared my hot cross buns, so I'm not toooo horrible.
I told everyone not to get anything for ds last year (he was under 6 months!) he ended up with books and stuffed rabbits.
this year everyone is like, oh he can have chocolate now, yeah, yeah, but I will be the eating it!!!:dance:
no bub yet but i know for sure that our bub will not be able to avoid chocolate when he arrives! hes born to a mummy with an EXTREME sweet tooth and selfconfessed chocoholic...as is my sister and my dad is notorious for letting children under 2 "try" whatever he is eating..be it a milkshake or curry...so im not sure how well we will go avoiding any of the bad stuff even before his 1st xmas and easter... its a nice idea tho lol!!!
