Blackstar that's what I expected with dd2 as she went in the toddler bed so young. If she really doesn't want to nap then she plays in her room but most of the time she goes to sleep and bangs on her door when she wakes up.

DS1 was about 2 1/2 when he went into a 'big boys bed'. When we finally made the transition it was just because we could, he took it really well and we never had any issues of getting out of bed or refusing to go to sleep.
DS2 is 20 months old in a cot sharing a room with his big brother as we're expecting another baby. I have been able to borrow a cot and i plan on keeping him in the cot as long as i am able to. Although bed time is not an 'issue' as such, when it's bed time he goes without any fuss but he is often in there for half and hour to an hour before he falls alseep.
I have a feeling he could be my cheeky one so while there is no climbing or safety issues he can stay in the cot :D
My DH just transferred P to a bed (a king single from my childhood - so not a toddler bed) from a cot about a week ago and she isn't yet 18 months. She has a safety rail/bed rail thing so she doesn't roll out and a step stool to get in and out and she's doing very well so far. She'd been in a portacot since birth, so even if she wanted to, there was no way to climb out/escape from it (net sides - nothing to hold on to).
She just started seeming really uncomfortable in the cot and not wanting to go to bed.
DD went into a bed at about 18mths because we wanted the cot for DS, though it ended up that he co slept until...well now! LOL. DD is in her big girl bed and has a safety rail. She has been in it since 18mths, she's not as dependant on DH and I to sleep like DS is. DS has a double mattress on the floor which he will go to sleep in and then DH or I end up sleeping with him for half the night. They both sleep in the same room (we had hoped it would help DS sleep alone, but obviously didn't work!) Not sure how we will work it when the new bub comes....
DD went to a full size bed on the floor at 18 months because she is was tall for her age and was too big for the cot, also it was when we moved house and didn't think it was worth errecting the cot for a couple of months. Put the bed on the frame when she was 20 months, without a side. She's now just over 2.5 and has never fallen out.
thanks for everyones replies, im worried that if it aint broke why fix it, in that she sleeps well most of the time, im worried if we move her she wont
but having said that DH is about to begin 2 weeks hols and we thought about doing it now so were both home to deal with the issues!
Can I just hijack this thread for a second and ask...
is there any need for a 'toddler' bed?
Or is it just as easy to go straight from cot to single bed?
The cot DD is in now converts to a toddler bed, but we also have a single bed too.
Brendan was just over 22 months and we moved him because he was climbing and then falling out of it. We had no problems moving him.
Tristan is 17 months and we are looking to moving him shortly before his second birthday as SIL needs the cot :)
Ds was in a bed at 2 yrs as we needed the cot and he took it really well, had a few falls outta bed but he loves his big boy bed
#1 20mths
#2 16mths
#3 16mths
#4 24mths
#5 3.5yrs
DS went into a bed about 1-2 months before his 2nd birthday. We'd put him to bed in his cot and he'd cry and scream and carry on for hours, and start before we even put him in his cot. We had a spare bed, so we tried that in his room. I'd lie on the bed with him to get him to sleep - which worked. Then decided it was probably time to just let him sleep there. The first night we did that (and for a few following), the floor was COVERED in pillows, just in case! lol. For his 2nd birthday he got a side rail, so the pillows could come off the floor. Only then did he fall out. lol
DD is the same age as your DD and went into a king single bed in her own room at 19mths. She never liked her cot so we haven't used that for aaages and up until she went into her own bed she was co-sleeping with us. I'm pregnant now and thinking about when this bub will be born so we had to make some changes (gentle one's of course)....she now sleeps half the night in her 'big girls bed' until she comes in with us.
She LOVES having a big bed and gets excited when people come over to see her 'big girl bed' hehe :)
I'm glad we went straight to a big bed because it didn't make sense to us to buy a toddler bed when they outgrow them pretty fast apparently. Plus she has a big enough room for a big bed.
