My DD has her last milk at 7pm, finishes it by 8pm, goes to bed between 8 and 8.30 and sleeps through until 8-8.30am.
Thursday night was my first night ever getting up every hour or two due to DD having a chest infection, I think she is trying to prepare me for babies arrival and the sleepless nights.
I have never experienced the sleepless nights as DD has slept through since she came home at 3 months so I have no idea how I am going to go with a newborn and toddler and sleepless nights... eek!
LOL, Iagree, I haven't slept through the night for more than 2 years. I'm lucky if I only wake twice a night. Usually it's 3-4 times. I can't wait for the day I get more than 3-4 hours sleep straight. I'm not even looking for a full night, just 5-6hrs straight!!:
I will be the envy of alot of people, but my DS will sleep through the night for 12-14 hours and also have a day sleep between 2 and 4 hours every day.
It wasn't from when he was born though. I had a horrible horrible time up until he was 12 months old. At 10 months he was still waking for feeds at least 4 times a night. All of a sudden, when he hit 12 months, was in his own room, he just started sleeping. Very rarely will he wake up, unless he's too hot or cold ( but to the very extremes) and if he is unwell. Other than that... we've got it really good here. I'm sure it will all change soon enough though.
My DD has been sleeping through for at least 6 hours from 1 week of age. Some nights she will wake once in a 12 hour period, but alot of the time, she'll go 8 hours and she's only 7 and a half weeks old. I'm sure she'll be a handful in coming months though, so I am living it up now!
I completely agree with Brontide - it is like a lottery, you get what you get and while you can obviously help your little one to sleep, there's nothing you can do to MAKE them sleep. DS has taught me that, and it's been a looooong, tough lesson.

My DD slept 6 hrs straight home from hospital. I couldn't believe my luck. She was sleeping through the night relatively quickly (and was also a good sleeper in the day). Fast forward to toddlerhood and she suddenly decided to wake up (in the middle of winter) numerous times a night! But once that was past she went back to her good habits. (What worked for us: we put her into a bed so she could come in and out of her own free will, always welcomed her for sleep and cuddles in our bed if she did wake up and night weaned).
Now at three she goes to bed at 7:30pm and I sleep to 6:30am without her disturbing me. She wakes up and climbs into bed with us at some point (I think after 5am, but I'm never sure as she's very quiet!) but doesn't bother me for a morning bf until 6:30am.
In our household we understand that
Mummy out of bed before 7am = very cross Mummy
Both my boys are pretty good sleepers. Slept through since really little.
I'm super lucky. I thought DS2 was going to be payback for DS1 being so good with sleeping and all the rest of it. So now I'm thinking when/if we have another it'll be super payback from having 2 great sleepers previously.
Hollye, STTN is sleeping through the night. It is generally defined as 5-6 hours straight, but personally I describe it as "I don't need to get up" (9-12 hours).
Hm, now I wonder if I should have started this thread. I'm depressed about my dodgey sleeper!!
STTN - Sleeping Through The Night
DD started sleeping 8-12 hours straight most nights after she started using walking as her main means of getting around. She started walking a week before her 1st birthday but it wasn't until about 13.5-14 months that it became her main means of moving around. She sleeps from about 7:30am until 6:30am most nights and sometimes wakes me up at about 3am but she's not usually fully awake at that time...I just change her nappy and give her a bottle. She'll only generally wake in the middle of the night if she's wet through, although some mornings when she's slept right through I go in and change her and she's almost saturated.
Mine have all had periods of sleeping through 12+ hours but they have also had waking through the night periods as well ;) Most frustratingly ATM the baby sleeps through but Mr 2.75 doesn't :wall:
I have a mum of 18mth old twins at my work - she commented to someone recently that she got a sleep in for a change. When they inquired what this was, she said 9.30 - what time do they usually get up, oh about 8.30! What time do they go to bed, about 7.30. Wha!!!

Jaidan and Chase were both sleeping through the night from 12 days (J) and 6 weeks (C), that is from 6pm till 7am. Even now they still go to bed at 6.30pm and get up at 7.30am. Sleep right through. I hope Ashton learns to sleep soon cos I am tired.
I better not show DH this thread. I have him convinced it is normal for babies to be up at least 3 times a night every night!
Seriously though... sleeping through from a few days olds? Did you even feel like you had a baby?
It is normal for babies to wake :) Even up to 12 months they still need milk at night.
It's more abnormal (uncommon) for them to sleep through ;)
You know I still remember when I was holding out for that holy grail of STTN. It's only now that I have a 4yo and 2 1/2 yo who mostly STTN that I realise the whole thing is a myth. Some nights we all sleep all night. But often I wake for any range of reasons, and there would be one night a fortnight at least that one of the boys wakes up for something in the night. And of course it's a rare occassion when both boys sleep past 5:30 in the morning.
And I think just when you get all over all those things you end up with teenagers and you lie awake all night waiting to hear them come home safely. So yeah, I think it's a myth.
I know its the luck of the draw. And i'll bet my next one won't let me off easy at all!
I also did things differently with each. Like Lily and Charlie were never wrapped. Orson is always wrapped. Lily and Charlie hated being held and patted whereas Orson needs me to hold him and pat him to sleep. Lily and Orson had/has a dummy but Charlie didn't until 6 months old. Lily was bottlefed from 2 days, Charlie breastfed for 6 weeks and Orson breastfed for 3.5 months. So all very different but still all had the same outcome.
Under 5yrs yes... DS sleeps generally from 7/7.30 to 6.30/7am.
Under 2.. NOPE. Frequent wakeups and feeds for both my kids.
Sleeping 12 hrs from 3 days old?? Thought we weren't supposed to let them sleep that long! LOL. How did that affect breastfeeding? My boobs would have been bursting!
