Oh I remember one! I was doing some December Christmas shopping with my son in the hug-a-bub, he was only little as he was born Oct 30th - and a tiny 5lbs15. In a check-out queue.... a woman turns to me and says, 'He's got a beautifully shaped head. Did you have a caesarean?' Ha!!!! No, I just have beautiful pushing skills thank-you very much!!! Though at the time I did want to knock out the female back-up Ob for freaking me out unnecessarily.

We get 'where do they get the red hair from?' at least once every time we go out. Ds1 said when asked this question: 'out of my head?', lol, I might make that my standard answer from now on.
I'm with minimatron, so sick of are you going to go for a boy? You need to have a boy next. etc etc. Umm no I am happy with my 2 girls and I also ask them can they guarentee that if we did go back it would be a boy and how many times we should keep going because we're expected to have a boy!
I've had the perfectly shaped head comment too, was a bit weird!
Where's the like button? My goodness it's amazing how many of us get asked or told the ridiculous things!
My pet peeve at the moment, is "I can't believe you still sit with him until he falls asleep(My DS is 3)" I used to just smile and let it go now I say "well when he's 13 the last thing he will want is his Mummy cuddling him until he is asleep let alone cuddling him at all so I'm making the most of it while I can!" or I say "if it doesn't bother me why should it bother you?"

Geeze there are some rude people out there! I cannot believe some of the comments you ladies have heard, some people seriously have no filter. Teni, massive hugs to you. I wish I'd been there and heard that (not that I actually know you!) to slap some sense into that woman.

- Now you need a boy (said by FIL when DD was ONE DAY OLD!!! I was in no way considering another baby yet, let alone what sex it needed to be!)

Then by the same person:
- Does she ever cry? (Not really, because she's where she wants to be!)
- So you're breastfeeding, I hope you've got her on a schedule
- Well at least you're vaccinating, so many silly people out there now who won't (this in no way reflects my own views on vaccination)
- Does she like her cereal? (I dunno, she doesn't have any, and won't when we start BLS when she's older)

as well as the 'where does the red hair come from? we also get comments such as 'she's going to hate her hair when she is older!' and 'she will get picked on at school with red hair' grrrrrr
oh and 'your girls are nothing alike' well actually apart from their hair colour they are ALOT alike
DS has 2 webbed toes on each foot that don't affect him at all:
"Are you going to have him operated on?" - ahem, NO!
DS also is quite pigeon toed.
"You should have that looked at" - My father is an orthopaedic surgeon, he examined him and said that his hips are slightly tilted, so he needs to walk pigeon footed so as not to damage his hip joint. If you try and force him to walk "normally" (which is what used to get done) he will wear his joint down and have lots of problems later. In 95% of cases, his hip will become normal through growing, then he will naturally adjust the way he walks. If not, you can deal with that at a later stage

Jeez, if I trust ANYBODY to have my son's best interest at heart then it is my father who I know is someone who constantly reads and educates himself on new developments on his field of expertise.
And then the usual:
Are you STILL breastfeeding? When are you going to wean? - Well, I don't know actually, when either he or I feel like we don't want to anymore.
What? He sleeps in YOUR bed? What does your husband think of that? - He doesn't mind.
He's such a mummy's boy - Well, isn't that normal? He's only 2! And I used to get that comment before he turned 1!
To my skinny daughter who doesn't eat much: "Don't eat xyz, it will make you fat" - actually, I don't want that word used around my children at all.
"Don't put salt on that, it will make you sick" - coming from my in laws who cook the blandest foods.
"You have such a bad cough, ask mummy to give you some medicine" - after a single little cough. ahhh, I don't do cough syrup!!!
Basically anything from someone else that pushes their thoughts on nutrition or medication onto my children.
on my natural birth - are you having an epidural - No i plan to go natural..."well don't try and be a hero" from a complete stranger in a lift at Westfield.....
5 week old baby crying - MIL - ah ah ah don't jump to her straight away she will get used to you
demand bstfeeding - MIL - a baby only needs 10mins on each side you are giving her too much milk, also she should sleep on her tummy
co-sleeping - MIL - WHAT!!!! you will create a rod for your own back, she will get used to your smell etc -
"ah yes she will thats the plan!!"
- Well she's not sleeping thru so you will have to do CC, it does no harm you are mad for not doing it, look my kids are fine there are no risks ( really your kids and you are fine..mmmmm)
- Well you demand feed your babies then you have to control cry them - yep MIL
as you can see great family support! Thank god for my own mum....!
Oh, I forgot a couple:
My FIL on hearing my plans on having a drug free birth with my first: "You should take all the drugs you can get. it is really painful, believe me, I KNOW!" Really? You KNOW? How many times have YOU given birth?
After having had 2 complication free natural births, one of them accidentally unassisted (that's not fair, my mum was there, and DD, so i had assistance) at home: "You have been so lucky, you know, most women can't give birth naturally" Well, actually, most women can. Not all, but most. And I was not only lucky, had I not been informed, my first would likely have been induced and my second would definitely have been induced. and who knows what would have happened after the induction.
And from my then GP, at my first appointment when i had a positive pregnancy test. I asked whether she could give me info on the new birth centre. she said: "A birth centre is not appropriate for you. You're overweight, you will most likely need a c/s. Besides, first births are high risk, so they won't take you anyway". Yeah right, 8 months later, DD was born in the birth centre's birth pool with the most wonderful midwife there to support me (and my wonderful DH and mum). I am still angry at that doctor. I think I will have to write her a letter eventually as I never went back to see her after that appointment. She actually had me in tears.
Oh I have more to add:
-She looks NOTHING like you (yer, well I do remember birthing her so I'm pretty sure she's mine)
-She's SUCH a girl! (duh, she IS a girl?!)
-She looks so good in pink (from the mil because I supposably dont dress her in pink enough)
-Babies are SO expensive aren't they? (well no actually, they are free!)
-I hope your dh is getting lots of time for himself too, it must be hard for him (yes, because the ONE whole hour he spends with us every night must wear him out.)
-Your dh works, he shouldn't have to get up during the night, he needs a good solid sleep (ohhhh poor dh... grrrr..)

On my first mothers day
I picked up DS as he was crying..... MIL "You'll spoil him"

Everytime DS cried while I took him off to feed (as I was told to feed in PILs bedrooms as apparantly I would be more comfortable there)
MIL "Oh, is your mother starving you"
Me screaming in my head "If I was allowed to pull out my boob in public he would be content right now" (if there is a next time I am letting it all hang out just to annoy them)
When we were invited to MIL house for dinner but told to bring dinner for DS because they dont know what to feed him?? WTF? Just cook some vegies and whatever else you are serving
DS whinging as we arrived past his dinner time "Doesn't she feed you"
Me screaming in my head "I believe YOU are the one incapable of feeding him you stupid cow"

I have to say I'm often one to ask how babies sleep...but only because mine were bad sleepers and I like to torture myself with how good other people's babies are :lol:
