When I was a kid I called it a Jina (I think just because I thought my parents were saying "the jina")
My mum called it a jamima when she was a kid and for that reason I always thought the doll on playschool was strange.
I don't know what we'll do to teach DD. I sometimes say "Now mummy will wipe your vagina" while I'm changing her, but I feel strange saying that. I don't know why I feel strange.
We use Pee Pee and Gina. Easier to say and to me doesnt sound as clinical or harsh i guess.

We use Penis and vagina, testicals and vulva. Simply because heaven forbid something happened to one of my children and they had to stand up in court, they MUST use the right words, they can not call it a wee wee or anything.
I also don't want them to be ashamed of their body and I want them to be open with me. It is important to me that my kids know what a 'real' body looks like, and what the parts are all called. That is why I still shower with them also ;)

Chelsea says gina and peni (pee-ne)...so we are getting there with how she says the right words!
DD calls my vagina and her vagina a wee-wee and DF's is a pee-pee. She's only two, as she says more complicated sounds, I'll change it to the right words. For now she needed a name she could pronounce.
Oh dear. I guess I never really gave it much thought in terms of the technicalities.
Beth's always had 'girl bits' or just 'bits'. Jordy has a penis (although sometimes I get in trouble for calling it a teeny peeny - hee hee - I just can't help myself)
Guess you're right though, we should at least tell them the correct words.
Just seems so grown up, somehow.
lol I'm slightly off track... but this reminded me of an episode of Scrubs (for anyone who is a fan)... which pokes some fun at the correct usage of words - this is a conversation between two doctors. The female doctor called Elliot won't use the correct words for anything....
Turk: Elliot, I can't talk to you about sex -- I don't understand any of that crazy gibberish you use.
"Penis" is "schwing"-something....
Elliot: "Schwing-schwong," "peepers," or "peep."
Turk: Right. And "vagina" is...?
Elliot: Disgusting! But also "bajingo" or "hoo-hoo."

Remind me to use the correct words with DS! Can you imagine him turning up to emergency saying there's a problem with his schwing schwong? It's done comedically above but it is such a good point that you've all raised.
I use vagina and penis (and testicles/testes). Don't see the point in another word. DS doesn't say either, he only talks about teeth and nose when it comes to body parts (although he can point to most others).
In his Thomas Songs book, the last song is If you're happy and you know it - you are to "toot your whistle". That sounded dirty before I read this thread LOL! Especially as we usually do clap your hands, stamp your feet... and so on.
have just been having a think about the whole genitalia thing, and i was wondering what other parents call their kids boy or girl bits??
to xavi, who is 2, we call his penis his 'winkie'
and matilda, who is 9 months, we say 'noo noo'
just wondering if anyone else has funny names or if you are doing the clinical 'penis and vagina' bit???:D
I am afraid we call them exactly what they are... to avoid any confusion. ;)
There are a million threads on BB for this exact topic. I'll merge this with one of the more recent ones....
With the boys we call their bits a pee pee and Master J refers to lady bits as a bobbom... don't know what else to call it!
Proper words here too, vagina and penis.
It did feel a little strange at first, but only to us. To DD, they've never been strange words. She's happily bathed with little boys or Daddy, pointed to their penis and said "penis". To which we reply, yes, darling, that's xxx's penis. She knows she has a vagina and Mummy has a vagina and so do other girls. Boys have a penis. No confusion.
I also now need to teach her that no one is allowed to touch her vagina without Mummy or Daddy being there and asking her first. With role play.
When we were kids we all called it the same thing (from a massive family of lots of cousins!)
Vagina - Wah Wah - dont know where it came from!
Penis - Wizza - I am assuming this has something to do with the "sordfights" the boys used to have!
But since getting older - we now refer to the vagina as the "vagutz" - again dont know why but it has stuck! I guess we grew out of Wah Wah!
I used to say "nini" for girls & "willy" for boys, thats what I taught DD ...... UNTIL I read the previous thread on here on the same topic (I think its the one this one was merged with) & realised that if anything happened to DD & she said to someone "my nini hurts" or "xxx touched my nini" etc other people (like childcare teachers, other family members) wouldn't know what she was talking about, so I have taught her to use the proper words "vagina" & "penis" which she now does.
I will also teach DS "vagina" & "penis" from day 1.

I admit I use the word junk with DS at this age but fully intend to use proper names so that others can understand what he means.
...had to laugh....this is what we call my daughters dummy.....she puts her nini in her mouth all the time....LOL......i guess thats when it can get all too confusing for them - when we all call 'them' diff names.....:

DD calls my vagina a weewee, but we're getting her to call it and hers a gina. DF's bits are called penis. He says pecker, but I am trying to get him to teach her the right words.
I don't believe in giving them 'nicknames' I don't understand the point, I don't think it is any different to calling fingers fingers and toes toes. Our boys call their penis a penis and Jackson knows mummy has a vagina although he hasn't mastered the 'V' sound yet and it comes out more like Bagina!!
