Kids + kitchens = bad combination!
I used to work with kids and adolescents and we had a "snack group" that we used to do. I HATED IT! I'd do all of the other groups for everyone just to get out of snack group.
Used to raise my blood pressure no end!
So cooking doesn't work for you guys, I'm sure you do plenty of other stuff.
Babe maybe "pretend" to make something? That way they can play and have fun and feel like they are making something when it actually is only play doh or something else that goes in the garden? :dunno: or as someone else said, do something else and try again when they are a bit older! I also find it easier if I put everything ready in little bowls for Iz (when J is asleep - key ingredient that one) and get her to pour them in one at a time etc.
DP does the cooking stuff - I don't have the patience either!
Lol I had to giggle Mel... sorry hun!!
I don't mind too much cooking with Oskar... BUT we had to get over our not listening properly hurdle... that involved me telling, yelling and everything in between for him NOT to be silly in the kitchen because there are hot things and it can be VERY dangerous. Well, one day he was mucking around and guess what.... he burnt his finger!! The look on his face was pure shock (lol... I'm laughing at the look, not that he hurt himself... it was like he couldn't believe it!) and then the face just fell and he was so upset that he'd done it. Been a pretty good little help since that day! I just have to remind him every now and then. He actually helps me cook dinner at least 3-4 times a week I reckon. I'm sure though that there are things I don't particularly like doing that you do ... it all balances out ;)
Ha ha, I'm the same!! :)
The only time I let DD have a go in the kitchen is when we use the Betty Crocker cookie mixes, where you just add milk and mix. It's a lot less stressful if you feel you want to go there. ;) I'm pretty sure you can get them in a muffin mix as well.
So...
What would you say to a friend who felt like a terrible mum because they can't jump on the trampoline (their DD's favourite thing in the universe) because they were over the weight limit?
What will you tell you kids when they get sad because they only got a C in....lets say....Maths....
We're never going to be good at everyting. Its all about playing to your strengths!
DH tends to our chickens with DD so she won't realise that I am actually pretty scared of them...desparately don't want to pass on my non sensical fears
I take over when she's whiney because I have a higher whine threshold
DH jumps on the trampoline for about 30 mins a day with her (JEALOUS) I will one day! Just have to get about shrinking a little first
A good mother has very little to do with cooking (though feeding your children is a good idea ;)) and everything to di with love!
This is exactly how I feel about doing craft!!! I love the idea of it, I try it and it just ends up being so incredibly stressful. I totally get it.
My kids are exaclty the same when we cook, they're older now and STILL fight over chairs and who's going to put the milk in etc. It does my head in.
 hun, cooking with kids is FAR from easy, your not a bad mother at all.
I enjoy cooking with DD1 but i lock her in the highchair and only put the bowl on the tray when it's her turn to mix.
Only problem i have now is she gets into the cupboards on her own steals my wooden spoons and runs around the house saying ME MIXING ME MIXING!
I highly doubt i'll be up for the attempts at cooking with TWO kids wanting to 'help'
Thanks so much guys!! And here I was, thinking that every SAHM was cooking with their kids every day, everyone wearing little aprons and everyone smiling and happy and enjoying themselves!! LOL... isn't it funny what you imagine everyone doing - only to realise that most people are just like you... *hmmm*
Thanks guys - might attempt another go at biscuits today - I've only got the one toddler - so we'll do it when the baby is sleeeeeping.
Mel, I had a laugh too, sorry!! but really, it isn't funny....(I was just imagineing the karate kick hehe) I wouldn't be laughing if it was my kitchen!! I'm a clean freak and would just lose the plot, lol. Just wanted to tell you that a very close friend of mine has two kids and when Jacob was around the same age, so 4, and Bella was nearly 2 (this is a while back now) together they would cause a lot of havoc but on their own they would be really good, especially Jacob. Sigh, and I want another one soon! Maybe I should think about it, ha ha.
I must have missed that memo too LOL. I loathe cooking with the kids and I'll be perfectly honest about it. It's just not my thing to cook with them. DH does it from time to time, but I prefer to cook on my own. I will let them ice the cupcakes though and get stuff out of the cupboards or fridge if I need anything while I'm cooking. But there are loads of other things I do with them so I guess it all evens out in the finish.
I'm one of those mean mums with a gate blocking the kitchen! We had no gate on for a week when we first moved into the new house and man, did I get frustrated with DD!!
I have cooked with her, although that consisted of letting her ice the cakes, and when we made biscuits, she put the choc drop onto the top of the dough.
One thing she does get involved in is making homemade pizzas - i have everything chopped and ready to go in a serving centre and then she just helps put the pizzas together - as long as you don't worry too much about hygiene, and double dipping, its all good!
I always think other SAHM's must be like stepford wives...immaculate house, immaculate kids, tupperwares full of baking, home-cooked meals daily, a face full of make up and no trackies on ever...please tell me I'm not the only one who is totally NOT this!!
