How are they under a false name? Don't you have to show ID and your Medicare card to get admitted?? At least, to get admitted without a hefty bill?


If there is any risk of the child being exposed to harm I would absolutely report it. Anonymously if needed.


I believe though that any of my friends would have already reported it him/herself as there's no way they would leave a baby (let alone their niece/nephew/relative of whatever degree) in a dangerous situation - and so I wouldn't need to be concerned that it might hurt my friendship anyway.

If the baby is in nicu for drug issues then docs would already be involved. They would have had to show someone else's Medicare card to the hospital, in turn that would be reflected on birth cert. and centre link payments would be effected. I doubt that they have been so clever to have not be found out.

How do you mean you don't know 'who' you would be reporting.

The only thing I have learnt is that if you report, ONLY report what you know, what you have seen. Not he said she said crap.

If your friend would be upset that you were trying to protect a child... Do you really need that sort of friend?

Also what Sara mentioned. There is a lot of assumptions being made and that doesn't help anyone!

I would definitely report it too - I'd consider doing the dodge on the health system to be admitted under a false name as enough of a reason to report them too. Obviously they know there are big issues that they are trying to hide from and that is evidence enough that they are not putting the child first. If they can safely care for the baby then they should be going through the right channels to legally do that.

Thank you tegam - what I more wanted to know was IF its likely someone would know - I didn't make it clear (would hospital staff picked up on something not right) The mother is known to dcp so if I report her name to dcp they will know rather than reporting to the hospital - that's also what I wanted to know (call dcp or hospital).

This person has false ID.

I was looking for advice not to be put down because I asked a question.

I know in future to keep quiet. Thanks to anyone with useful info.

Ps: about the child being at risk in my opinion yes.....

I don't want to disclose anything I know about her except like mentioned she is a heroin addict who continued to use through pregnancy - is that not enough risk anyway?

I absolutely would report it, tell docs everything you know, from which hospital the baby is in, the fact that this person has used a false name and id, absolutely everything.

Don't keep quiet in future darl, sometimes people come across harsher than they mean, and sometimes peoples just don't get it. Take what you need from BB, give back what you can, and ignore the haters :hug:

I don't think anyone was putting you down. Or at least that's not how I read it. That's the downside to the written word, very easy to take things out of context especially when emotions are running high. :hug:

I also think people may have misunderstood, or been unsure about the drug thing. Your original post said that the first child was removed do to drug problems, which doesn't necessarily mean there's a current drug problem itms? Obviously if there is still an ongoing drug issue then yes, the baby is definitely at risk. I would assume if she was using through her pregnancy this poor bub was born addicted? Such a cruel way to start life going through withdrawls :(

I think it is good to report if you have concerns at any stage. I think it's good to remember though what you (or someone else) think constitutes a risk is not always what Child Protection considers a risk. Drug use in and of itself is not a "risk". It has more to do with how the child is being cared for. There are many drug affected parents who are high functioning and still have their kids in their care.

Double trouble - this is the thing, it is believed that they have used a false identity at the hospital..... In this case I wouldn't know WHO I'm reporting if that makes sense. But I'll make the call today. I at least feel better if I tried.

The others are right. You can report it as a member of public and anon.
They will ask questions like the persons name etc. Give AS MUCH information as you can including the name they may have used in hossy. Also be REALLY descriptive in the information you give. While we all like to think that the person on the other end has some understanding, the more description you can give the better.
The hossy may well (read should have) already reported this but the more information that that the have from as many people as possible will help them to build any type of case.

I'm osrry that you are in this situation, its horrible. Did they give you any type of number on the phone? LIke a ref. number? If you havent heard anything by tomorrow i'd be ringing back and quoting the reference number. The other thing you can do (while anon. to the person), is to go into a DHS office and report it directly. Sounds like though you are doing the right thing by ringing them.

Just an update..... Sad one if you ask me

Dhs asked to send the baby to the grandparents where the other one is, they set up for her but the mum decided to fight the decision and went to court.

Someone did her drug test and she passed. The baby was sent home however she is going into MBU tomorrow and has been asking her sister lots of questions about it. She is on both methadone and heroin so she is hoping to be let out to "go to the chemist"

Fingers crossed her assessment is enough to have the original motion overruled. As the original judge - knowing the background said "children should be with their mum"

Hi there just wanted to add I had reported my sister and eventually her kids were taken away, but docs did not keep my calls anon even though I had asked I'm not sure this is an isolated incident but in no way did they respect my privacy, I suppose they do this to prove why her kids need to be taken.
