MIL bought a dress and nappy cover set and a little soft rattle the other day at a fancy schmancy store in malvern, $88 later :/ I think the outfit was $70 ish. I love the target stuff, carters, sprout etc. Probably $30 for a winter jacket for DD next year.
I spend way too much, and have too much!
I already have bags of clothes DS has outgrown. Keeping them just in case we have another baby and it's a boy.
What I should be doing is selling it all.
I will, on occasion, spend a lot of money buying the kids *good* clothes, usually only 1 or 2 outfits each. But I buy the next size up so is last longer :lol: The other day I brought the girls these gorgeous Thomas Cook summer shirts which were $65 each, but they will last at least 2 years and I couldn't find any nice dress shirts in target, bigw or myer for them. I have brought RM Williams shirts for the boys too which are a bit expensive. Everything else I buy on sale if I can. A few years ago when DD1 was 4, I saw this gorgeous esprit summer skirt in a fancy kids clothes shop and it was $80!!!! so a simple cotton skirt! But when I was there later in the year I saw the skirt on the bargain 60% off rack and got it then. I was so pleased with myself LOL. I wont even include shoes in this because I think myself lucky if I can get them shoes for under $80. Except for DS2 who has bog-standard normal feet. Oh and water ski gear is expensive too. Last year the girls needed new life jackets and ski pants and that was about $250 for those items.
i've done the same (and feel the same about GG stuff!) - have also paid a fair bit for things at auction for charity - well above "value" but i figure there is the "value" plus the donation to a charity i would normally support too...:
the most i've ever spent on any single outfit was about $450 for DD's Christening outfit - but that was the whole shebang - dress, nappy cover, bonnet, bib, shoes,stole - all in raw silk and antique lace. we looked at other options which were less expensive, but given our family didn't have any sort of tradition of handing something down in our family, we decided on doing this as a special start for DD.
i'm a fan of heaps of kids clothes things on fb, and tend to buy via them moreso than in the local retail chains. granma buys stuff local, so we look at wahm stuff. have picked up some gorgeous dresses for as little as $2.50 each - you just have to be in the right place at the right time. there are a few that i regularly support and have had dresses custom made (me choosing the materials etc) for less than i could get it done locally.
I spend more on nappies than clothes lol most of the kids stuff are presents or hand me downs the most expensive thing was a jumpsuit DH bought for DD when she was born $20 thats about my max i did get a dress and ruffles for DD's birthday but i only paid $8 for the ruffles coz i won $35 worth of stuff and they are just as cute as the Georgie girl stuff
i never worked out why shes so popular i can think of heaps of other WAHM who are nicer and make just as cute outfits JMO of course
$50 Jeans for DD1. I once purchased 4 items of clothes for $180 from Esprit for kids.
Its shameful the amount of money I have spent on ladies wardrobe, I would hate to even think of an amount. I could probably clothe a small village somewhere for a couple of years at least I reckon. :p
I went to the Mummy Tree Market on Sunday and bought two dresses and an absolutely gorgeous playsuit. I cringed when I saw the price of it but I had to have it. $45 for the playsuit and $30ea for the two dresses. Its just as well I only have one girl :rolleyes:
I dont understand the whole GGirl thing either. As cute as her ruffle bums are there are so many talented Mums making the same thing and who is going to know that DD is wearing a GGirl ruffle bum from someone elses?
Really not fussed on her dresses at all either. They are quite plain and basic looking to me and if I am going to spend $30-$40+ for a dress I want it to be the bomb diggity.
I got DD a lovely knitted Cardigan from Myer last year for $30. It lasted 2 years. I tend to buy things on sale if possible. Until recently DD was growing at an alarming rate so the cheaper the better :)
I also usually buy things at end of season for the next year but DD is getting fussy about what she wears so not sure how much longer I can do that for :)
I spend way too much on the girls but that's because of quantity not individual amounts of things. They have enormous wardrobes that are chokkas. I'm the first to admit I have absolutely no self control when it comes to a cute outfit, but anything over $50 - no way. As others have said though, shoes are the big thing for me, especially for DD2 who has the longest, skinniest little feet on the planet. I'm happy to paying ANYTHING just to get a pair of shoes that fit her properly.
I think $40 for a leather bomber jacket with a woolly collar which can come off (press-studs on or off) ...
expensive, but just adorable ... and warm!
