From personal experience I belive there is nothing wrong with confort items! Shayla who is now 5 has ' dolly ' who is as old as she is down to a few days. she is an old rag doll who is easy to throw into the washing machine for cleaning, as shayla is getting older now she has recently discovered that she dose not absolutly need her there when she sleeps of a night although she makes sure dolly is never far away. Jackson who recently turned 3 had two security items a dummy which he gave up by himself and a knitted blanket which started the size of a cot blanket which we have managed to reduce slowly over the years to a knitted square about the size of a tissue ( very easy to take any where) i have no doubt he will give that up to when he is ready.
good luck kel

My DD#1 had a dummy until she was 3 years old.
My DD#2 wouldnt even look at a dummy, but has "tweety' - a soft toy that goes everywhere with us.
Both loved there two comfort items...it made them smile, it made them happy, it obv comforted them when they had it near......no harm done by it IMO.
