Amber Teething Necklaces & SIDS - Do Amber Teething Necklaces Cause SIDS?
Printable View
While the potential risk of strangulation or choking may exist - and this is what the SIDS warning referred to - I can't find any mention online of a death attributed to an amber necklace. I would think it would be reported on somewhere.... Also, if a cause is attributed, then technically it wouldn't be SIDS anyway, so that doesn't really make sense.
I checked out the link someone posted on FB as well, and it actually goes to the Sids for Kids official website. I even searched "amber" on their website and the article warning against Amber came up.
I started using amber on my daughters 9 years ago. I had break, but no pieces of amber came off because of the knotting. I think it's like any baby product, make an informed decision, be aware of your baby and how they use it, and purchase a genuine product from a company that has been selling for many years. I have never heard of a child choking from a tiny piece of amber. They are more likely to choke on other household objects lying around. I have had friends who's children have choked on olives or grapes, perfect lodging size.
And as others have said, SIDS is unexplained death.
Holy crap, lol. 1.7k likes on that article I posted in half a day. Thats insane.
THANKYOU for that article! I have posted the link on the facebook page in our local area with the hope that some of the locals might actually take the time to become educated before they spout off. Otherwise there is a good chance i might reach through the computer screen and have to shake some sense into them, just because you have raised numerous children and they somehow survived their parenting to adulthood doesn't make them parenting experts...
this annoyed me so much all over fb yesterday. it's just commonsense really. My dd's is on her wrist as she wriggles too much and would pull it against her neck when playing and I didn't want to risk that. They have warnings on the packages too.
