I agree with Liz about the cloth nappy thing...sometimes the extra squeeze is enough to make them leak.
So much so that I've given up on them and just use singlets. I've got really long kids though and the singlet is just more practical for us.

I never really got into singlets- I use bodysuits- short sleeve for summer and long sleeve for winter, under whatever else they are wearing.
I agree about riding up still being an issue even when older- at 15 months, DS is walking, but his tops still ride up and as climbs on everything. Probably not an issue in summer, but in winter I am keeping long sleeve one pieces on him.
