Tell me this GRUMPY IRRITABILITY ends at 3 months old?

My son was a good happy baby so it is for that reason I feel so overwhelmed with my daughter and worried Ive got a miserable baby who will turn into a miserable child.

She has had Colic, the peak of crying period (7-11pm every night) lasted for about 3 weeks and ended when she turned 7 weeks. She also has silent reflux which I started medicating with 2.5mg twice daily from about 3 weeks which helped that straight away.

But overall she has been so grumpy in the day. its unbearable. She has such a short temper and cracks it all the time. She doesn't even like her brother it seems and he just showers her with affection which of course makes her cry.

Adding to that she won't self settle at all during the day for sleeps, Ive tried a bit of gentle controlled crying but she's persistent and will just keep on going. Fine at night by herself though after feeds. But because of this I always put her down asleep or let her sleep in the pram. She will only wake up once or twice during the night too - always slept nicely once settled for the night.

Oh she is 12 weeks old today and exclusively breastfed which is going well.

Anyway someone please tell me this is all normal. Please tell me this grumpiness will go away after the magical 3 month point!?! Thanks

Massive hugs. It is ok. She is still really young. You probably dont want to hear this... but could you be expecting too much from her? Does she bf to sleep? All i can really sat is it will be ok. Its hard but it will be.
(I dont have much else at 1am...sorry)

It is normal. DS was a reflux and colic baby and was pretty miserable for the first 3 months. For us at around 14 weeks he turned a corner and has been a mostly happy delightful baby since. At 3 months old I wouldn't expect her to be able to self settle. Sure some babies do it but most still need the comfort of Mum. I would forget all about any form of controlled crying at this age she is too young. The biggest thing I had to learn was to surrender to DS's needs. He was a terrible night sleeper and I went insane with trying to find ways to get him to sleep longer stretches at night and it wasn't until I stopped fighting it and accepted he needed me to re settle during the night that it got better. Just remember you can't spoil a young baby so if she needs to be rocked to sleep rock her and transfer. Even now at 8 months DS still sometimes needs me to help him get to sleep during the day so I'll rock him or lay down and cuddle him to he is asleep. I know how draining it is when they just seem to cry all day long but hang in there it does get better

    Hi
Congrats on your baby. Wanting to be held and not sleeping alone is perfectly normal for human infants, so please don't think there's anything wrong with her, nor is meeting her needs the wrong thing to do.
Is she feeding well? What are her symptoms for the reflux? Does she just want to be held - do you use a sling or carrier to help settle her more easily?
She's not grumpy, she's just communicating with you. She's a good talker, hey? That's going to be really good for her when she's older and needs to stick up for herself. Hang in there.
