i wish this could work but she's such an independant sleeper, i doubt very much that it would work :(:
mbear we do activites as well in the morning! we normally go out if we need to then play out side til lunch, she goes down realitivly easily, so she's tired, jsut doesn tsleep for long enough
AJP- Ash rarely has day sleeps now. She gets up bout 8am goes to bed bout 8pm. She'll have day sleep bout once or twice a week now. I still put her down every day bout 1ish with her books and she just has chat to herself. I think as long as she is having a rest! Oh and she is 20 months she prolly been refusing day sleeps for few months now.
DS is 20 months old.
He wakes up at about 5am but has a quick feed and goes back to sleep. He actually gets out of bed between 6 and 7am.
He has a sleep around 12ish - anything from 1.5 - 3 hours depending.
He goes to bed at 7pm (and is usually up at least once during the night....)
AJP - Rylee gets up at 7.30 am goes to bed at 7.30 pm and doesn't have a day time nap - maybe once a week if I am lucky - I still put her in her cot for an hour to chill out and give me time out. She does have a nap at child care - don't know how they do it?
~ between 7-8 wakes up
~ goes for a sleep at around 12 pm for 1.5 - 3 hrs
~ goes to bed between 7-8pm

My sons almost 22 months:
GETS UP: 6.30-8am
DAY SLEEP: anytime from 1pm can sleep until 5pm. Normally sleeps around 2 hours
NIGHT TIME SLEEP: 7pm
Just to answer your "wondering" Bath - we have never co-slept, DS is 14mths old. If he wakes at night (rarely now) it's a quick visit, insert dummy and he goes back to sleep. Sometimes he may need a cuddle, but back in cot to bed after that. You can stop wondering now!:

most days doesn't have a day sleep ( far to busy my boy is )
down for the night 10 pm at least sometimes later ( the kid just doesn't stop )
wakes occassionally at 3am then into bed with us
this behaviour is aslo killing us slowly but to tell the truth i don't have th energy to try and change his sleep patterns atm hoping when he goes into a big bed he'll be alright (wishful thinking )
Great thread, very interesting! Thanks Jols :) I'm really hoping that my DS follows one of those 'lots of sleep' patterns when he's 18-24 months LOL! I think that's wishful thinking though ;)
On the co-sleeping thing, my kids never wanted to, it wasn't for lack of trying because I honestly though it would be easier but it ended up being a nightmare for both kids. Cuddle plug and resettle also works best here. My kids love their bed and don't like being disturbed even if they have woken themselves LOL they just like a little bit of reassurance and thats it.
well she went down at 1pm today after some very obvious tired signs, woke........ 45 mins later :doh:
as much as i know i need to accept that she just wont sleep longer, i cant!!!!!! i get frustrated at the lack of me time!!
funny thing is that up until around 9 months she was still having 4 sleeps a day!!
I hear you on the me time Jols.....DS has slept for 1 hour 10 mins today, and he's currently getting about 9.5-10 hours at night! So I'm struggling for me time too ;)
its hard hey sez!! i know i should be grateful she sleeps so well at night but.....
All kids are different though, my gf's daughter hated day sleeps from about 18 months so sleep time turned into quiet time with toys on her bed. Whereas if Paris (6) is tired she'll still happily take herself off for an afternoon nap. I have two sleepers. But Seth (2) still has days where he doesn't like or have day sleeps. I think they are all different and sometimes its easier to work with what you've got iykwim?
Jols I can totally understand, its hard they are all different & they change their sleeping whenever they have a developmental change.
Jovie:
wakes: 6- 6.30am
Nap: ??? random, sometimes 45 minutes, sometimes 1hr 30 min
night: 8pm if under an hour nap, 9pm if over, and 7pm if no nap....
Her sleeps are very dependant on what we are doing. If we have a home day, she doesn't nap well. Even if we do things and activities together, and I do stimulating things, its just not enough. If we go out in the morning, shopping or walking or just out and about, than she sleeps well. If she falls asleep in the car, it will be a short nap, if its in her bed, a long one....
If anyone else is in our house awake, she will not nap. Its very annoying....
J was a 45 min day napper, until he reached about 15 months. Then suddenly he started sleeping for 3 hours.
The issue that we are having now is that he doesn't want to go to bed as he thinks that he is missing out. does anyone else's kiddies do that? He goes to his cot and howls!! It lasts about 5 mins, and then he realises that it is in fact bed time and more often than not he will settle.
Yep Jovie absolutely refuses to sleep at night until her big sister is asleep. There is no way we should ever attempt to get her to bed first. Its so exhausting...
Ditto Christy. My 4yo demands to go to bed at around 7pm each night...whether he has had dinner or not! Thankfully because of that it means we can incorporate "I just need to go check on your brother" when settling our youngest in his cot. If I come back and report to him that his older brother is asleep he will consider settling. I think half the reson my youngest isn't settling during the day is because he doesn't want to miss out on what his older brother is doing.
With my "wondering" I didn't mean to make it sound like co-sleeping was the superior method or anything :) It's just that if we didn't do it then there would be no way known our toddler would re-settle any other way. Our older kids grew out of the need to join us in bed... at about 2yo. Looking forward to that day with my youngest. I think it might happen next summer. My body heat is too appealing in the depths of winter I think! We don't leave the central heating on over night.
