DD went through a stage at about 12 months old when she woke early, anywhere between 5:30 & 7am. I was a single mum at the time & found it soooo tiring LOL Although I was studying at the time & she was at childcare 5 days a week so it got me out of bed & out the door nice & early to drop her off & get to Tafe (blessing in disguise I guess you could call it)
That didnt really last long & she's back to sleeping until 7:30-8:30 now. Thank goodness. Although she does still have some days when she'll be up before the sun or wake through the night, usually when she's sick though.
I think I was so shocked by the early wakes around 12 months because she was a top sleeper from day 1.... yes day 1! In the hospital they would make me wake her to feed through the night but as soon as we got home from hospital she was off to bed at 6pm & didnt wake until 7 or 8am! Sometimes I would have to wake her because she just loved to sleep! Very spoilt I know!
I just know this next baby is gonna be a nightmare & keep me up all might long LOL
i hope she goes back to normal for you soon (fingers crossed its just a phase!)

could you leave some toys in her cot for her to play with when she wakes... a book perhaps?
if my dd wakes up early (before the sun) i leave her to her own devices until its a reasonable time to get up.... unless of course she is crying ------ grizzling, protesting, sooking, yelling out 'cowwwww, mooooo, elmo, pig, oinnnk' etc doesn't count, it has to be a serious cry before i get her up....
sometimes she will go back to sleep, most of the time she will just play etc and wait for me to come get her.... i've always made it a habit not to get her immediately when she wakes and i think this has helped.... when she is old enough to understand, i will teach her that she can play quietly if she waks up early but she's not to come out of her room.... i don't believe in getting up before the sun - unless its a newborn who doesn't know any better.
last night she woke at 3am due to sore teeth!!!!!!!!!!! i am so tired as i didn't get back to sleep. boo hoo.

Tan I think that Izzy is just getting you ready for when the new bub arrives!
Like you I have been wondering about dropping a day sleep as some days Elena really fights to go down in the afternoon. So we have been playing it by ear and most days she still has two naps and occasionally she will only have one. Seems to be working for us!
Um don't know what to suggest about the early morning waking! Does it make any difference if she goes to bed a little later in the evenings?

OMG Tan. that's awful! I have to say though I think it is just that you've been spoilt until now. My Izzy wakes between 8 and 9am and everyone I know with kids envies me for it - they're used to being up by 6.30 am at the latest with their kids. Hopefully though your Izzy is just sensing the difference in you so her routine is out - and therefore will hopefully settle down back to "normal". Otherwise, could the earlier waking be that she's cold? Maybe try an extra layer on her to see if you can get a later wake time.
As for the day sleeps, my Iz still needs two sleeps a day too. I do find though that sometimes her afternoon sleep isn't a sleep at all - she lies in her cot for an hour chattering away to herself and never does actually nap but I figure at least its quiet time physically. If I happen to be out somewhere so she misses her afternoon rest she is dead on her feet by dinner time. I'm putting off trying to get her to have one sleep a day as looooong as possible!

Tan, my DD wakes for a bf at around 5am but then snuggles into sleep with us until about 7am. The occasional time when she's awake earlier (usually 6:30am) I go and put her in her room and shut the door and she plays on her own until I get up. I am NOT getting out of my pjs before 7am for ANYONE! She has plenty of toys in her room and considering how lazy I am about getting out of bed once I'm in there, we took the sides off her cot when she was 17 mths old so she can come to us and amuse herself.
And boy do you hang out for that afternoon nap once they drop the morning one!!
