Hj - we have the other couple just above his head. He is old enough to know they are there and can reach behind himself to get them if needed. When he was younger, I always kept one tucked in the side so that I could find it in the middle of the night. Nothing worse than doing the frantic dummy search in the dark!
Leesa - we were worried about DS forming a strong attachment - which he has - but it's not a bad thing for him. We go away alot (with him) and he also spends one day a week with my sister. He will sleep anywhere as long as he has his blanket. The few times he has been to daycare, he has even slept there with his blankie. For this reason, we have more than one so we can rotate to wash and we always keep one in his backpack. We do try to limit the blanket for bed only as I don't like seeing him walk around with it during the day. Mum tells me I slept with my blanket until I was 8 .
