FJ, sorry to hear that huni.
Thanks for your msgs girls. We have just come back from having a couple of days away. Tehya really isn't any different. No better, but at the same time no worse.
We have a Dr appt tomorrow at 9.30 so we will see what he says. Hopefully we can get in to see the Paed soon.
-
How is Tehya Trish? I hope things are improving for her.
-
Thanks for asking Janie. We have a Paed appt tomorrow, not sure what else he can tell me that I don't really know, that it takes time to recover etc. Maybe he will book a scan ? Not 100%
She's not taking the steroids anymore, but will see what the paed has to say about that tomorrow too.
Will try and update when we get back in the afternoon.

Hi Trish. Hope things are going well for you and Tehya and the family. Just letting you know that I have had Bells' Palsy twice and on steroids each time. In the majority of cases it is not permanent and mine lasted about 10 days and I had a crooked smile, an eye that wouldn't close, tear ducts that went weird, a numb face and found it hard eating/drinking. People who get BP usually only have one episode in their life. The 2nd time i had it about 6 years ago I was in hospital for a couple of days. HTH.

Thanks Katie, I have hear that ppl can get a reoccurance after they have had it once, and usually it is years afterwards.
Tehya had her appt on Tuesday. Dr was ok, I've seen him before and don't really love him, but he was ok with Tehya. Didn't really tell me anything that I didn't know about her already though.
She hasn't made as much progress as he would like to see in a child after having it for 2 weeks. But then in saying that, he didn't see her when she first got it either. KWIM.
She is back on steroids for a 3 day super flush, and then wants to see her again in a months time. If she is no better then he wants to order some scans etc.

Hi Trish,
Hope Tehya is doing better and that you are feeling ok. In addition to the steroids, you could take her to a cranial osteopath. Bell's Palsy is the result of the particular nerve being trapped in it's canal and an osteopath can help to realign the facial bones to release pressure. It's very very gentle treatment and kids respond really well.
HTH xo

Ohht idea. Thanks for that. Will see if I can find one out here. :D

Hi Trish,
I have followed your thread about your little Tehya, it must be such an awful experience to endure :(
I am so sorry you and your daughter have to go through this. Having had a look at your FB photos I think she's such a cute little girl! It was absolutely gorgeous that she said she spoke like a pirate!
I would see another DR just for a confirmation, instead of having to wait a whole month before testing.
I wish you and Tehya all the very best, you're in my thoughts.

Aww thank you so very much. Really means a lot to me that others care about my little girl too.
Have been doing some reading up on Cranial Osteopathy and have found a paediatric one nearby so as soon as my house is quiet enough I am going to give him a call.

Just found this thread again so how is your little girl now?
hope all is well

Thanks for asking Nikki.
On the fantastic advice from Sarah I took Tehya to see an Osteopath on Saturday. She was resistant to say the least. But eventually she let him touch her.
I know I am going to word it all wrong, but basically he could feel a pocket or bulge in her brain lining and did whatever it is they do to help reduce that. He also did his magic on her face to help encourage the blood flow to the damaged nerves. Whatever or however he did it we seem to be getting some very gradual progress.
Tehya has another appt with him this Sat too. I also got into see our regular GP and had a whinge to her, I asked her for a referal to a physio and expressed my concern that Tehya had not been referred to one already. Anyways, she has got us into Physio at our local hospital and said hopefully she will also get some OT there as well.
Thank you all for your ongoing support for Tehya, it truelly is much appreciated.

Hi Trish,
Thanks for the update :)
It's great to hear that there's some progress!
Certainly keep us posted. I was telling my DH about your poor little darling's problem and showed him the FB pics - he thinks she's the sweetest little thing too! You're in our thoughts :)

Thanks for asking once again Nikki.
Tehya has now finished her appointments with the physio and osteopath. Every visit she was defiant - true to her nature, but we still got progress out of her.
For someone who doesn't know Tehya you can see nothing wrong with her at all. Too me and probably the specialists, you can see that she is still slightly asymmetrical or off centre. Her right side of her face is still not quite as strong, like if she does a big smile the right side of her mouth doesn't go up as far as the left. Her right eye now blinks ok and it shuts all the way, without a concious effort from her.
Tehya has a follow up appointment with the Physio on the 26th of the month, just to check out her progress and to see if she needs any speech pathology or not. I really don't think she does. Lord knows she never shuts up.
Thanks once again for following Tehya's progress. If you have a look at any new pics of her on my FB you will see that she is smiling gorgeous again and no longer like a pirate :)

Wow that is really great news, i am very happy that everything has just about sorted itself out. She has done so well and it does not seem to even worry her. All the best
