DD1 was 2.5 ish, we put her into a bed basically because she started climbing out of her cot lol  and it did make this 'testy' for a while, but she is fine. I find it better as she usually comes to me in the night if she has trouble, lol.

Jensen was about 20mths when he started getting really cranky about being put to bed in a cot. I wanted to keep him in there til at least after he was 2. by 23mths (I think to the day!) we put him in a king single, thanks to dh encouragements. For the first week I put the cot up against the bed and cushioned everywhere else (where the cot didn't cover) with lots of pillows. However, he never fell out. Slept right thru - and slept in too! Then he started getting out of bed, but couldn't get back in. Then he had to go into hospital and never slept very well for about a month. He's ok now tho, 2yrs 3mths and it's now becoming "fun" to climb into bed!
Very helpful reading these posts! Iwant my DS to be in a bed by the time Rasberry arrives mid April. He is such a wiggler/tosser/turner - if he sleeps with me he manages to fall off our king size bed (we have the mattress on the floor for this very reason)! He doesn't climb out of his cot - but he climbs in it GO FIGURE
OMGoodness, sorry to hijack but I just had to share: My 22month DD slept in her Big Girl's Bed last night for the first time: ALL night! Successfull day sleep in process too.
DH just did the normal bed routine then sat next to the bed, sort of ignoring her, till she went to sleep. There was crying of course, as she had refused the bed for a couple of days but I'd packed the cot up yesterday so she had no choice. I made a huge fuss this morning and went in and layed with her for our normal morning cuddles but in her bed :) For her nap I sat next to her and it took 20mins for her to go off with no crying, jsut some delay tactic games.
