We didn't move DS into his own room until he was sleeping through the night, which was around 11 months. I actually tried several times to move him to his own room before that but he slept so much better in a playpen in our room (and he's a sound sleeper so once he was actually asleep we could still read and talk in bed and not have to tiptoe around him). I think maybe he slept better there because I was able to get to him quicker when he woke up in the middle of the night and so he went back to sleep quicker. I cut off all night feeds at 9 months so after that when he woke in the night i would just give him a soother and lie him back down. It also meant I wouldn't fully wake up (since I cold just lean over and give him the soother) and I could fall back asleep faster. I kind of missed him when we finally did get him moved over.

We moved DS into his nursery about about 16 weeks - I would put him to bed about 630pm in his nursery with the monitor on and then move him to our bedroom when we went to bed, then one night I was so overtired I decided to leave him there until his next feed, then after that feed put him back to sleep in his nursery again and then we just started using the nursery all the time!
This was after a number of false starts, at about 7 weeks ad 12 weeks I went to leave him in his room, then walked into our room and saw the empty basinett and burst into tears and went and got him LOL, you'll know when you are ready..... :)
DS still wakes for the same amount of feeds, but I think we sleep a bit more soundly, and I can hear everything (even farts LOL) through the monitor anyway. I know my DH definately sleeps better. I reckon I sleep more deeply between feeds.
It can be a pain to trudge back and forth if he needs settling but this is pretty rare cos he's a good sleeper
Only move him if you are ready, otherwise you'll spend a sleepless night worrying :DOH: We have a Tommee Tippee breathing monitor too which puts our mind at ease

What about when your room is the other end of the house from bubs? This is our situation and interested to know when you moved your bubs in this case?
If her room was right next door, I think DD would already be in there but I just hate the thought of her being SOOOOOOOOOO FAR away from me! Even with a motion & sound monitor....

we put ds in his own room after he grew out of his basinette. Just when he started to learn how to roll. We were so scared he would roll out of his basinette and onto the floor. (think from memory he was around 6months or more).
anyway, I found he slept really well, but I couldn't sleep (even though he was right next door). A monitor does help, but if your anything like me, be prepared to not sleep for a few months (or weeks) from worrying.
I still check on him at least twice a night and he is almost 2!!! I don't think the worrying part ever ends when your a mum. lol

DH and I have decided to move DS into his own room - tonight will be the first night. Not sure how it will go, but I think it's for the best. DH and I need proper 'alone time' in our bedroom, lol, and it would just be so nice to have that space back for ourselves. I'm sure DS will be fine, but I'm sure I'll probably be a blubbering mess tonight.

We plan to move DD into her own room when we move (in about a months time). We would do it sooner but only live in a one bedroom apartment so not much choice! We began co-sleeping and when we moved her into the cot (the room is quite large) she slept so much better! Went from 3-5 night wakings to 1 or 2 and is now mostly sleeping from 9 or 10pm through till 6 or 7am (she is getting her top two teeth at the moment so that has put a bit of a spanner in the works). We did this between 3 and 4 months.

I think DD was about 4 months. Just in time because I went back to work when she was 4.5 months.

Ds1 we co-slept for 2 years. Frequent waker, moved in to own room at 2 & a bit and started sleeping through! So we think our presence was waking him up, and we didn't sleep very well for those 2 years either.
Decided to do things totally differently with Ds2 and he went in a cot in his own room from day 1. With a monitor i could hear him wake. He started sleeping through at around 9 months!

How did you go last night?
Harrison - was in our room & bed until he was 12 months. Now he sleeps in his room until about 3am then gets in with us.
Emily - Has gone straight into her own room. She wasn't meant to, we have the baby hammock in our room but she doesn't like it. She sleeps so well in the cot in her room I'm not going to risk moving her into our room.

Last night went well. DS went to sleep easily like he usually does :).
I put off going to bed for the night for awhile, lol, and when I finally did I spent a good half and hour to an hour fighting off sleep because I was convinced I wouldn't hear him (I decided to try without the monitor). I finally drifted off and DS woke up for a feed - and I heard him! Once I woke and heard him that first time I was pretty good. I guess I felt confident that I'd hear him if he woke up.
So far DS being in his own room hasn't helped the night waking - he was up 3 times last night which is fairly usual. But, it has only been one night. Maybe it will get better :crossfingers:.
He has just woken up from his first day sleep in his room too. I was worried that he might have trouble with his day sleeps being in a different room as it's not completely dark, but he was completely fine :).
So, all in all it has been quite a smooth transition for DS and me.
