Ashton still gets wrapped :)
Not all the time, sometimes he will fall asleep feeding, or in the pram or carrier, or in my arms, or having cuddles, or laying in bed on his own! I dont see it as a problem :)
My friends little girl was 3 and still getting wrapped in a sheet lol Hell if it kept her happy and going to sleep and sleeping ALL night who cares??!
PW I wrap Ashton in a flat cot sheet :) He is a big boy (11kg and 76cm) and this still wraps him fine :)

I am a HUGE fan of wrapping as were both my babies! DD was wrapped until 9 months and DS was wrapped until 11 months. They both let me know when the didn't want to be wrapped anymore.
I put them in a sleeping bag and wrapped over the top (mainly because it kept their feet warm). We also used an angel wrap which was wrapping them with their arms up (but still wrapped). That way they still had movement and could suck their fists. I use a cot sheet to wrap as well and still tuck them in firmly with a sheet in the cot. When they decide not to be wrapped anymore I just use a sleeping bag and tuck them in firmly. Then I just go to tucking them in when they seem to not need the sleeping bag anymore.
If you are interested in instructions on angel wrapping, there is an information brochure on the Karitane website (you'll have to search for it on google since I think it might be commercial). If you go to the section called 'Families' and then to 'Parenting Tips' and then to 'Information Brochures' there is one called 'Wrapping Your Baby' and that has the angel wrap instructions, complete with pictures :)
I saw a SIDS poster just yesterday about wrapping and it said that it is a good thing to do up until 6 - 12 months (depending on your baby). I was very happy to be given that reassurance because people think I am strange for wrapping my babies beyond the first couple of weeks and most of the literature says not to after 4 months because that is when they lose their startle reflex and don't need it anymore. My babies both needed it in order to self settle and I don't see that it has caused any developmental issues.
If only you could still wrap them when they are older and discover the ability to get out of bed, open the curtains for light and play till all hours of the night . . . toddlers!

well i don't find anything wrong in that but some time it do depends upon babies like the one of my friend she had a sensitive skin the stench was so bad she thought she saw fumes rising from her little butt......

what a load of baloney, whoever told you that, it's not THEM that has to deal with your bub NOT getting off to sleep like usual (with the wrap)!!!
ignore them, do what works for you.
we used it on and off for alot longer than 12 months, it was very useful.
i would lay one of those safety sleep things, cylinder pillow - flat bit of fabric - cylinder pillow, and place bilby on teh flat bit, all wrapped up, it made her feel secure and stopped her moving her hands and waking herself up.
store bought wraps became too short very quickly (even with my short bub!) and so a friend sewed four wraps together like a four piece patchwork quilt, and that worked well. Midwives at the childyouthhealth told me to use cotsheets, that was great too.
i had a Nov heatwave nb, by the time she was a one year old Nov bub, we had another heatwave, and i struggled to keep her wrapped in 45 degree temps, but went back to it in the autumn.
there are MANY strategies when you care for a bub, i find it pretty outrageous, when people reject out of hand, or give you "should's", esp with cut off dates, for strategies that MAY or MAY NOT help particular bubs. Why cut out one strategy that might help?
i reckon - listen to how everyone solves various issues, then you've got a larger "toolbox" of things to try out on your bub. Hopefully, at least ONE of them will reasonate with your bub and everyone will get some sleep.
who cares, as long as it works?
becoming a mum has made me develop a stronger skin, cos i've been fed so much BS ever since bilby arrived. Having to sort thru the BS when you're sleep deprived is really hard! trying to work out what is worth listening to and what to not listen to.
oh and when we did stop wrapping, we then used tshirt cotton type sleeping bags with the zips. that was fine, until bilby was in a single bed and started getting herself out of it, independently.
then you can get things called "blanket sleepers" for the walking independent toddlers, which look like onesies for bigger kids. sleep suits with arms and legs.
these don't keep the limbs still, but when your child is kicking off bedding or refusing to stay under covers, at least they keep your child COVERED during the night, with SOME warmth.

thanks townsvillegirl!! i used to do the anglewrap as thats the only way i could wrap her int he begining, maybe i'll try that again, might get her to sleep longer during the day if she can suck her hands again (something she done off and on) i too use a large cot sheet that i made which fits well!!
gigi your right i do need to not listen to others!! i have a huge array of sleeping bags and sleeper suits from sophie. your a sweetie!!

Hi everyone,
I just got on here for a similar thing, i love it when that happens LOL
DS loves being wrapped but have been afraid that he's cold especially the last couple of nights ( we live in the country outside of Melbourne), and he's been unsettled during the night, very strange for him. So last night i put him in a sleeping bag only for warmth and was afraid that not having his arms wrapped would wake him up. He was ok, not as bad as i thought but not as good as wrapped. Anyone have any suggestions? I already have 2 blankets on him!
Also i agree wrap till the bub tells you otherwise, i don't like to stop things at certain ages etc we do what's right for us and it seems to be working all around.

Just thought I would chime in.
My second dd was still wrapped at 3, mind you she wrapped herslef wouldn't let me do it but that is how she slept till about 3.5yrs of age. Without it she would wake heaps and be really tired. In the end she was wrapped in a single bed sheet. I say you do what works. DD number 3 hated being wrapped from day 1, when they wrapped her in the hospital she screamed till they unwrapped her and she has been unwrapped ever since.

My nephew was wrapped til 11 months, when he got quite big she used single bed sheets, at 11 months he started sleeping badly, she unwrapped him and off he went to sleep, so gave it up all on his own. I figure its not something that would be a prob so go with it, she'll let you know when shes had enuff.

Nothing wrong with wrapping, it's not "bad" at all!
It makes your baby feel safe, and warm and happy and secure. It helps them to get proper sleep. What's bad?!
I wrapped my son until he was 10 months old, he loved it. When he got to the age where he didn't need it anymore, we just stopped doing it and there was no drama at all.
He is nearly three now and he still occasionally sleeps with his wrapping blanket when he's sookie, but that's ok, he doesn't need to be wrapped with it he just likes it with him for security.
Don't worry about "bad habits" - literally everything you do with your child on a daily basis has the potential to someone to become a "rod for your back"....your response? It's MY back! ;)
