Thanks for replying, glad to hear you loved your hammock, just one question though, do you know if you can use a breathing monitor with them?? we have an angelcare monitor that has a pad that lies under a cot mattress and would really like to use it again
Nope it wouldn't work. There isn't anything flat for them to sit on.
jojozep,
I missed this post earlier, but if you have any other questions about the hammock, please feel free to ask away......my daughter was in the Amby Hammock from birth till she was 11 months, and my son has been in it from birth is still in his at 5 months.
I cannot recommend them enough....they have been simply brilliant for my babies.....
Yasin slept in his hammock until he was about 10 months old. I didn't get it until he was about 2 months old and once we had it I wished that I had it right from the start. It fits into a big bag and its easy to assemble so you can travel with it which means that bubs is in a familiar bed when you go away. Because its smaller than a cot we could fit it into our room so he could sleep beside us for much longer than he could have if he was in a cot - this was great for night time feeds and also I felt much more relaxed having him within arms reach at night. I can't imagine using anything else for our next baby.
We have both, MIL bought us a hammock after we used on at the hospital when Milo was born.
Its particularly good if he is/has been a bit unsettled or overtired, as I've found he's less likely to wake early (after 1 sleep cycle).
Hi there, we are using a hammock for our bub, who is 3mo. My question is: am I the only one disturbed by how curvy the mattress becomes? And also, has anyone else found that their baby's ear gets folded forward due to the curvy mattress around their head? I am worried that bub's ear is going to stick out permanently given how much time he spends with it folded forward in the hammock. Also, how long is realistic to keep bubs in a hammock for? My bub is quite big (90th percentile) so he's already filling it quite nicely, although there is a fair bit of length room left.
Your thoughts appreciated!
Hi Sal, Dh was worried about the ear thing but Yasin's ears don't stick out a great deal now so I don't think its made a differance to them.
I never really stopped to think about the curvey mattress - it did curve but I assumed that it was just moulding to his shape - Yasin has lovely straight posture so it certainly hasn't done any damage to his back.
Yasin stayed in his hammock until about 10 months when he started wanting to sleep on his side.
Thanks, Dach! That's made me feel a lot better about it.
HI all,
I just wanted to let you all know that I put my baby girl in a Hammock for the first time yesterday and she was alseep within minutes.. She is NOT a good sleeper and loves a good cry, but so far she has sleep so much in her hammock I have to wake her for feeds!!! It is AMAZING... I HIGHLY recommend it for any bubba who likes to be carried / rocked to sleep.
The brand is Natures Sway, I'm not sure how much it cost as I have borrowed it from a friend, but however much they paid it was worth every cent.. Sanity here I come.
We use an amby hammock for all Imran's day sleeps - its fantastic. I'm thinking of starting to use it at night too.
We have bought an Amby hammock for this baby as well. I can't wait to use it!
Amby hammock fan here as well :) They are great!
HUGE hammock fan here.......I have just bought a fresh mattress for ours (Olivia and Charlie are both hammock babies!) and so B3 will definately be in a hammock for as long as possible..........
CeeCee....SO glad you are having sucess with it!
How long can you use them?
Amby's hammock is up to 20kg - considering Zander is 17months and he's only just 12kg I'd say a long time!! Although we only used it until about 6-7 months when he got cranky because he couldn't roll over!
Yep, we love our Amby hammock, too!
I was also wondering how long people had kept their babies in the hammock for. I know they say until 18 months but I thought that the baby may feel a bit restricted in there by that age? Perhaps it would depend on the baby....
Clarrie is 7.5 months and still quite happy in it. Julie.
Yep as I said, Zander got a bit cranky that he couldn't roll over in it so we took him out, but we would have kept him there as long as he wanted otherwise.
Thanks Sarah. Somehow I missed your post!
Olivia was (and still is!) a tiny titch, and she was in it until 11 months. We could have kept her in it for a lot longer, but she wasn't rolling or anything (too busy talking) so we got her transitioned to a cot to encourage her gross motor skills.
Charlie stayed in his until 9 months. To be honest, he probably should have come out earlier (he is a big boy and like Zander, was getting cranky in it as he was so keen to move!) but I stretched it a bit due to an overseas trip (a hammock being SO much more portable than a portacot..)
lol on Olivia being too busy talking, Lucy!
Yasin was in it until 10 months. At 6 months he suddenly started to bounce himself really hard for a laugh and we thought about moving him out but then we decided to get an extra spring so he couldn't bounce himself so hard.
Its true, I swear, she was so busy with 2 word sentances at 10 months & full on conversations by 12 months, that she didn't walk till she was 19 months.........to be honest, for a while, I was a tad paranoid that the hammock had stinted her in some way.:
lol on Olivia being too busy talking, Lucy!
Then I had Charlie. Disproved the theory totally...........LOL!
These hammocks sound great, where do you buy them from? and how much do they cost? i would love to get one for this bub
hi Naomi,
We have an Amby, but there are others as well. If you do a search for Amby hammocks you'll find the web site and we just ordered ours online. The whole set is $265 but I also noticed that at the moment they have a special that you also get the sleeping bag thrown in. Delivery is extra. Luckily for us Grandma bought it (first grandchild!).
Mine is an Amby Natures Nest too........do a Google......they are great value for money at $265 as they combine a basinette (but last your baby longer) and a portacot.......
You can also hire them (to maybe trial one?) very cheaply, or Ebay usually have them too..........
Thanks ladies, your a great help
babyhire has them for $150 for 6 months I think...but I think it would be better to buy one - i have not heard a single bad thing about them..
OOOh, makes me excited for my next one!!!!
Lucy Maddy was talking sentences by her first birthday too, long full on conversations etc... But walked at 10 months & rolled at about 11wks & crawled earlyu too... Miss Indah babbles in unrecognisable messages, only really says Mum, Dad, Puppy & other stuff but I have no idea what it is & then she yells at me coz I dont know... & crawls, walks holding on to furniture, but is no way near anything like Maddy (other than looks really!)...
Chalk & cheese these 2 it's hilarious, Indah's only much earlier in tantrums, stubborness & bossiness!!! hee hee
It is weird isn't it, how they can be SO different......Charlie sounds the same as Indah......chunters and moves, but I have no idea what he is on about.....he is too busy cruising to stop and "explain"!
Love the new snap of Indah BTW.....she is EDIBLE......
UI amazed at their difference & temper, wooo hooo... I dont mind I think it's funny they are so different & have their own personalities already!!! I can see Indah is gonna rule Maddy already, poor maddy will just do whatever to keep the peace!!!
You just gotta love em to pieces!!!
She's wearing her Sarah H t-shirt!!! Suits the little ratbag to a T!
Olivia, has the most beautiful hair & Charlie has such a button nose..... Too cute!!!!
Ooooooooooo that reminds me......Sarah has some new "RedHead" t-shirts.........I AM OFF SHOPPING!!
Charlie is ME all over.....button nose, short fat legs, but busy.........LOL!
I grabbed that T-shirt for my friends daughters 1st birthday in 2 wks time.... Her hair (although limited amount comapred to Indah) (PMSL)
Is the brightest, flouro red/orange hair I have ever seen!!!!!!
So I had to get her that Top!!!!!
Emma, I think you'd be mad NOT to, IMHO!
Amby delivers in NZ, and the cost is WORTH EVERY CENT if you end up with a happy, content, self settling baby out of it.........
Each to their own, of course, and I am not saying that we have not had a few sleep dramas in this house, but blessed few really, and I largely attribute it to the hammock helping Olivia & Charlie feel secure and content always in their sleeping habits in the early months......
The thing to remember is it doubles as a port-a-cot as well ;) We decided it was worth every $
We also borrowed an Amby and loved it!
Although we moved DA out of there at around 5 months, as he was fast running out of room and he looked a little cramped. He is good in his cot now (after co sleeping for like 1.5months).
He had colic in the beginning, and although ppl say that the hammock may have contributed to him being a bad sleeper, i'm still glad i used it because it seemed to make him sleep a lot better and be more comfy.
You can get them off ebay pretty cheap - my mum got one for when we went around to her place. I still plan on using them for the beginning with our next one, but i think i just have more of an idea about how to do things sleep wise so they don't get into such a bad pattern (ie rocking them to sleep in the hammock for 1 hr)
I've found it easier to get them to sleep in the hammock if I do something else at the same time. I'm not sure why, but if I read a book (or play on my phone or watch TV) while I bounce it Imran goes to sleep much faster, and so did Yasin.
That is so so true Dach......I used to read a novel over the top of bouncing Charlie as a new born and look down and wonder, "Oooo, I have read 2 chapters......wonder how long Charlie has been asleep for??" LOL! Takes the mental stress out of watching them, clock-watching, wondering how long it'll take them to drop off!):

That said, Charlie only needed bouncing off a few times.....he got the gist of how to bounce himself pretty quickly, thank goodness.......
I was into reading while bouncing as well! Now we hardly bounce the hammock at all - a couple of months ago we 'graduated' to Clarrie putting himself to sleep with a lot less intervention and he seems to have got into that habit quite well. Unfortunately, I don't get to read as much. LOL.
Emma.......good for you....let me know the name of the company or pm me and I will do a Google........
