Same here RB, I now feel really bad that she had it but at the time since she had all of her other vaccinations I just went with the flow, they did it at her school and the hep B as well and I just felt it was the right thing to do.
My mother had an abnormal pap come back, right around the time this vaccine came out. the Dr told her she had cervical cancer. My mother requested more info on how and what the virus is/was that she had. The Dr also pushed and pushed for her to have vaccine, she did consider it until she investigated and googled more info and thats when we found out it *may* protect you from only a certain type of strain, so it was absolutely pointless. Mum had discussed it with me, and after lengthy discussion we both agreed this was just a load of crock, we both decided there was not enough info released on side effects and if it only possible protected against a snigle strain then why was it being pushed into the arms of young women? Money talks doesnt it! The Dr (who some women on here love as an Ob/gyn) told her you can get warts from a toilet seat :o ... My mother looked at her and said 'I'm not a 15 yr old you can talk sh*t to, your an idiot' and walked out.
6 months later mother dear went for a pap check up to reveal she infact did NOT have cervical cancer, and she was given the all clear! I tell you - if that was me, I would have sued for stress! My poor mother was heart broken and really worried about what the next steps were going to be!
So, my daughter, myself and my mother will not be having the vaccine, and I am so glad i chose not to!
On another note though - the hep vaccine they give kids practically when they are born i declined. I was looking at DD's baby book the other night and in big capital letters it says 'DECLINED BY MOTHER' You know - I felt quite proud that I did decline that injection, i dont think its necessary at that age! IMHO I will gladly do it with all my babies :) The way it was written tho - was like it was a bad thing iykwim?

You'll find that if you go against "medical opinion and advice" you'll be looked at like you are the most uneducated person to have crossed their path. It's all part of the attitude given to people strong enough to question.
Those looks and attitude aren't enough to get me vaccinating though!
vaccination for yourself or your kids is such a personal thing. For me I would never consider getting it yet two friends rushed in to get it as soon as it was available and was free. It's really up to you. I'd be more inclined to focus on what is causing cervical cancer in the 1st place and work on preventing it if you're that worried about it.
Yes, and unfortunately it talks enough that the WHO have PRE-approved (as in it can skip much of the testing) for the vaccines to be used on young boys now too.:rolleyes::
Yes, apparently you're risking your baby by being cautious and not giving them a vaccination on their first day of life for a disease they are highly unlikely to get at that age :doh:. The thing I don't get is the rationale that it's okay to risk auto-immune issues, SIDS, life-long disabilities and even death for a disease that if they do end up getting it (and in a Western country the odds of that are fairly low) *might* one day give them liver cancer in 40 years time. Unless the baby is high risk (i.e. mum has hep b) I don't see how the risk/benefit ratio even comes close to adding up.:
