Glad I found this thread! We've started the transition too. DS loves his big boy bed with his new doona cover which he got for Christmas and refuses to do night sleeps in the cot now after only 3 days. Problem is we've found him two mornings in a row under the bed - we think he's fallen off onto the pillows etc we've piled up next to it on the floor and then just continued sleeping and rolled under. We don't want to do the toddler bed thing as he'll just grow out of it way too soon for the cost...I had a look at a review website to compare bedrails, but just got confused and have heard differing ideas about whether they're safe to use or not. Anyone got any recommendations? It's a slat bed.
I'm glad I found this thread - I'm trying to decide if we go before or after bubs #2 is born... new baby will arrive when DD is 16 months old.
We'll probably hold off until about 14mths, she sleeps quite well now except for one wake up around 4 or 5am, which I'm hoping she will grow out of.
Is 14mths too early?? What do people think?
Nope not too early at all, we started at about 12.5 months and we've done really well, obviously there is a transition stage, so make sure you have got up some extra sleep before you start, but I wouldn't change that we did it now.
Thanks Ella, great to know!
Might need to start looking at beds now...
We started at 16months just because I wanted the cot for the new baby LOL. I think as long as you stick to a routine it'll be all good :)
Ella - hows things going there?
Lewis's Mummy - DD has been sleeping on the floor sometimes as well - Even with a bed rail!!! I think she's just climbing off the bed though cause when I check on her in the morning shes got the blankets off the bed and sleeping on top of them on the floor. As for a bed rail - we got our at Toys R Us. it just slips under the matress and has like a anchor point thingy that goes on the other side of the bed so it doesn't come out. It has a mesh thingy so DD can still breathe if she rolls up next to it.
hj1981 - have you guys started the transition yet?
Leasha - Hows Jazz going?
Hey! Things are doing really well here. I think we are teething so still waking occasionaly through the night, but he doesn't roll off at all and seems to sleep really settled.
Heard a horror story the other day about a mother who had her baby in the cot because she didn't want to change too early and she put her bubba down for a nap one day and forgot to take of his bib. Anyhow the baby went to climb out of the cot and slipped and the bib got caught on the cot and he choked to death.
Made me feel very justified in starting the transition early!
Hope everyone else is doing super well!
