Breech - what are the options these days?

The girls have all given you some wonderful information but a lot of the time it will come down to the hospital you attend and their policy on vaginal breech.

From personal experience with DD1 the hospital i was supposed to attend had a NO VAGINAL BREECH POLICY, i was told had i of actually made it to hospital there would have been an emergency c/s performed.
The midwives their all shook their heads and couldn't believe i had done it home alone, that they themselves were not properly trained for a vaginal breech delivery.

I think it's scary that in this day and age the medical 'professionals' are not necessarily trained to handle the possibilities.
My birth was scary and yes it COULD have all gone wrong but it didn't and it was wonderful and empowering and should i ever be told i was having a breech baby i would fight to the end of the earth for the right to deliver him/her the way I WANT TO.
But that said had i of known DD1 was breech there would have been every chance i would have chosen a c/s based on the 'risks' the medical professionals tell you.

It's all personal choice and there is no right or wrong answer, you do what you think if right for YOU and YOUR BABY and if that means your comfortable with a c/s then there is definitely no issue in taking that road.

too busy shaking my baby, and pouring hot sauce down his throat when he cries. Little bugger still hasn't learnt the art of silence, so he's in a cupboard atm crying it out.

There is actually a DVD out at the moment called A Breech in the System. Its an aussie documentary about a woman's fight to have her breech baby in a public hospital (I think she is located in NSW somewhere??). It shows the birth and everything I think. There is a trailer of it on youTube. Might be worth a look of you are considering having a vaginal birth?

Yup, i've seen this just recently - my doula lent it to me. The mumma had the ECV (forget if it was 36 or 38 wks though) and after resting for half an hour the mumma was able to go and freshen up, during her trip to the loo (all of 5 mins) and prior to leaving the hossy bubs had returned to being breech. She was upset but accepted that her bubba wanted to be that way.

On the day of the birth bubs was still breech - but mumma was lucky enough to go to the hossy in labour when a female OB who had tonnes of experience from working in the phillipines was on duty and she trusted breech birth - and just monitored the mumma with the midwifes and let the mumma do her own thing - just like any other natural birth. Result = one beautiful birth and healthy bubba and mumma :).

missymoo84 - i don't know really, i just HAD to i guess and i realise i am VERY lucky to have gotten through it with no complications.

I guess the other thing i wanted to say is just because it CAN be done does not mean it SHOULD be done, choose whats right for you and don't let anyone say you SHOULD go natural or you SHOULD go c/s.... do what you think is right.

I just watched it tonight. Definatley worth watching if you are contemplating a breech delivery. She was one strong woman to fight for the birth she wanted. Takes guts to ring up on your scheduled CS date and say you aren't coming in:clap:
