Thank you LOL. An inducement for the baby to come out might be a box of chocolates at the end of the bed.

When I first saw the thread I thought it was going to be about a 'new' kind of induction! I suppose it is...football induction.
Glad it all went well though - still don't agree with it one teeny bit.
Thank you for posting that, exactly what I was trying to say in my post but think it all got lost in the back & forth of those so totally against it. I really don't know how we can go on about something that we personally don't know anything about....that's the problem with being in the public eye I guess. Glad it all went well
Glad it all went well and that Brian doesn't have to 'worry' when he's next playing, and everyone can just concentrate on the finals.
Anyhoo, I still hope she gets the support she needs when everyone's eye is on the ball.
Beatrix - I would hope that there was far more to it than what was reported and that it wasn't just a social decision. I only hope, though, I don't prescribe cos we all only answer to ourselves and our families.
Beatrix so glad all is well! And she was able to ahve a her baby girl :)
I know I may have jumped to conclusions but we only had the article and the quotes to go off. So sorry if it offened you  x
The Herald Sun did an opinion poll based on 1500 responses. The question was (something like) "Should the wives of footballers induce their babies to avoid distraction during finals?"
17.3% said YES
82.7% said NO
(posted from memory... have since thrown out the newspaper) But I was kinda surprised... I would have thought more of the general public would have agreed with the idea.
It might just be that people that feel strongly and have some understanding about the issue voted so the general public may not be reflected in these results, if that makes sense. I usually think these public opinion poll figures are generally skewed by the fact that the people that vote in them have a vested interest in the topic being voted on. I know how much opinion I have to have for me to be bothered picking up the phone and voting and I don't think I am unique in that.
Interesting none the less :)
Yep, I know what you're saying TVG and that's why I kinda thought footy fans would have been more likley to vote "YES" as they are the ones with the vested interest. Also, beside where they had the poll result they had quotes/photos from people chosen at random... all basically said that it was wrong... except for a young girl who assumed that because it was a medical procedure that it would be safe... even the blokes, probably hard-core and uneducated (about safe birth procedures) said that it wasn't a wise thing to do. I was quite amazed.
That's really interesting. I would not have expected the results to reflect that at all. Before I started having babies, I would have assumed what that girl did too about induction being safe because it was a medical procedure. It does seem to be a standard thing that happens especially with private patients, I have a few friends who got 'sick' of being pg by the end of their pregnancies and have been induced by their obs at 38 - 39 weeks. Until I started having babies and being interested in that sort of thing, I thought it was pretty normal. I suppose why I thought a lot of society would also consider it normal.
My thoughts exactly. As women we don't mean to berate a mother when we disagree with a particular choice, but we have a right to disagree. Obviously we all want what is best for her and are glad to hear it went well, but we also want what is best for the baby, and inducing a healthy baby early is not what is best for the baby. It defies natural law and is a medical fact supported by statistics- that's all. It doesn't mean we think they are bad people or will be bad parents. They could very well be friends or family members of our own, and we only wish them the very best and are happy for them, regardless of whether we agree or disagree with their choices.
Spot on JellyBean.
